Does the beach ever officially close there or can you be there whenever you want? Why is the water brown there but in Florida it is blue, i don't get it it's the same gulf of water?
@answertotodayis1776 - It is open 24hrs/7days/365 days. The water is brown due to the Mississippi River run off @ Louisiana when it meets the Gulf. The current carries the murky water along the upper Texas coast. When you go a mile or so off shore in Galveston, the water is clear and blue ! In far south Texas "South Padre Island" the water is a light blue-ish/turquoise color, but thats 360 miles southwest of Houston... Check out South Padre Island pics on Google ;-)
I went down that road back in june 2009 I saw a flattened McDonalds and I saw the Hotel out on the pier, we went to beach 14, man what a vacation!! I will go again someday, this time take my whole family and stay a few days.
Galveston beaches suck. The water is usually nasty and brown, the place smells like shit, and the entire shoreline is covered with seaweed and trash. Trust me, i live in the houston area so i've been to galveston quite a few times. If you want good beaches, go to South Padre.
@psychwardthageneral and if that's the case that's messed up! Sad really! But I still say - If you're living there you're lucky as hell! Forget the left.....check out the view to the right!!!! Beats these corn and tobacco fields.
@1600mlktd hey you have a good outlook on life thats good.but hey if you can overlook the crime and the poverty thats in galveston.as for me i dont care i love galveston no matter what.its definitely my spiritual stomping grounds.dont get me wrong galveston can also be nice and you can have a good time there.just stay cautious cause trust me things happen on the island is all im saying.ive seen crazy stuff myself.
nice to see murdock rebuilt. That was absolutely a very cool shop. I honestly can't ait to go visit, but its going to be hard seeing my daughter be so far away from home.
Thanks for this video. We live in washington state, & in aug of 08 we drove the 2800 miles to galveston. My daughter joined her bf there. arrived aug 16th, I flew home the 20th. Then Ike hit just days later. My only child was in storms u don't ever see in our state. I was up all night watching the news. Galveston is an incredible place. DD lived there 1 year, then came home summer 09, but is returning to live permanantly this summer. I plan on visiting alot
This is such a beautiful video! My heart belongs in this amazing city and its so nice to see a video of it. I live in Oklahoma and I can't wait to make it back down there again. I used to go all the time when I was a little girl, so THANK you so much :)
yes I did although in 86' when I was hit by a car on the 18th of January then the space shuttle blew up ten days later.. at 12 and the seawall or was it 17th. did there used to be a 711 here??? If you remember re freshen mine.
ScrewdUPClickV2 what are you using to make these reoordings? I enjoy watching them and i love the selection of music.. What kind of camera and mount are you using?
Loved your drive of Seawall Blvd, not sure how I missed this video for more than a month. Great video, and it increases my desire to one day go to Galveston for myself. Never mind I already am considering the idea of going to Fort Worth via Amtrak this winter, since I've only been to Texas once(and it was to El Paso 10 years ago as part of a church work camp trip, I flew there w/my group). And it'd be at least a start on the many other places within TX I eventually would like to visit....
Must echo FreewayBrent's comments on the fast recovery of Galveston Island from Ike. I wish New Orleans would have been as fortunate from Katrina. Nice ride and great Vid as usual.
Cool video, Im glad to see Galveston recovering so well. That reminds me a lot of PCH in and around Huntington Beach CA . I noticed NO PARKING METERS!! That would never happen in NJ, MD, or probably along most of the East Coast unless it's the middle of winter LOL.
Seems like Galveston has recovered pretty quickly (*especially* comparing the situation to just 2 years ago) from the devastation of Hurricane Ike. That was a solid video; I'll have to download that song. I wish we had warm, sunny beaches up in Northern California, like what I saw in this video! :-(
I remember that Mickey D's right at the end, when I passed it was covered in seagulls! Looking forward to your TX-87 vid, the Port Bolivar ferry is a gas :-)
@damonhynes i currently have a galveston ferry video , i have to intentions of remaking it . but the next video will follow i-45 mile 3 to its terminus tx-87 through galveston to the seawall
Are there tides in that area? I know some areas in France have as much as 30 feet difference between low and high tide, but there is almost no tide in the Mediterranean. The Netherlands (50% below sea level) is protected by a series of dunes and dikes as high as 100 feet.
@aswchris wow 30 feet . well galveston does have high tide periods . but nothing on that level, i would say max of 3-5 feet normal to extreme tide difference, the galveston, clear lake the same .the way the gulf of mexico area kinda tampers off in a slight decline from land , kinda removes the high waves from pounding the area's land , galveston can have high winds from the south , when it does ive seen waves as high as maybe 5-10 feet before. galveston bay has no dunes or dikes for protection.
Galveston's always been a favorite vacation spot of mine,Seeing the progress they've made in rebuilding since Ike is definitely encouraging. Thanks for the great ride along the seawall.
Galveston's always great to get away for the weekend. Two years later and they're pretty much back on their feet after Ike. We used to go fishing off the pier at the end of the Flagship before Ike, and it's sad to see it closed off. Thanks for the ride.
Never been to Galveston, but it's a pretty nice tourist area. Yeah, news reporters are crazy! There's too many hurricanes for me to even consider being in that area!
@FreewayAndrew you get use to it .but i would never live that close to water , houston is bad enough when it floods , pretty much every time it rains.
@Bryant5493 Not only it's vanishing, but it's moving to the left, either used by a transition or the picture-in-picture effect, with keyframes. All the work is edited with Pinnacle 14, it's worth a try. I used it for about six months now, and 3 people I know, including ScrewdUpClick, have switched to this program.
I purchased that program, but my laptop doesn't have enough memory to run it. So for the time being, I'm stuck with WMM, which does a pretty decent job. WMM's just very glitchy and you can't post photos on the video without having to cutaway.
I rarely respond to videos. But your work is awesome, music is perfect and information is interesting. Keep up the good work!
