  • Where is his mentor/cooperating teacher?? 1st I will get to a point where I have the students work (activity, copy notes, etc) and quietly ask if the student is feeling sick. YES - send to nurse; NO - then I will respectfully remind them that I cannot have them sleep in class and it is not fair to the rest of us - who are all tired - to sleep in class. 2nd approach is that I pretend to trip and crash into the desk. I always get laughs with this; however, I have a great repoire with my students.

  • wow, I would've just let him sleep.

I taught in a college once, and one of my students fell asleep.......the other students noticed and giggled.....but I didn't care, I just continued on with my lecture.

    lol

I guess some teachers take a more aggressive approach.

This guy actually had the balls to say something.

    Different strokes for different folks.

  • I don't think it's right to bang the desk to get the sleepy child's attention.

  • I am an effective teacher now, but I went to through hell!

  • brings back memories. at least i didn't sleep in class. but i was the one who would laugh after this kinda shit happened.

  • Bring back swats for the little fucking monkeys!

  • well if u r that boring teacher then student will fall in sleep!!

  • This guy couldn't control a high school class. Just going on bully power.

  • Also...think about this kind of discipline 2 months from now. Students will get used to it, and they wont be scared anymore. This guy needs an ego check, and needs to remember what it's like to be a kid.

  • Putting students in fear of you is NEVER a good way to get results. Talk to the student outside of class about sleeping. Why would you want to humiliate the student in front of the class? Is that going to make the student happy? no. Talking to him after class will allow a much more comfortable situation for both teacher and student. Students must feel comfortable in order to learn, and I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that if I even LAUGHED I would be yelled at.

  • I totally agree! It's ironic because of the subject he's talking about too. The kid might have a bad home life, no telling the situation. There are definitely better ways to handle that.

  • probably a better way to handle that...

..coming from a former student teacher

  • he is smart and i admire him

  • I'm a teacher, and I agree with him..absolutely NO ONE SLEEPS IN MY CLASS!
