  • One of my favorite ELO songs :) I had this on a 45 and played it over and over again until my Dad yelled at me to shut that damned thing off :)

  • Mes Amies votre formidable melodie quelle vous magnifique pour les incredable formulatione :)

  • This track really takes me back - my mum (R.I.P) had a friend who had huge speakers with their record player and had a dial which moved with the bass of a song - this really pumped up the bass - absolutely bloody brilliant and I am 40 next year. Love all of ELO's music!

  • one summer dream ,I remember driving into the sunset, stopping in the mountains, looking over a valley in New York State and saying nothing, I had eveything I ever needed for just that song and space in time,,,nothing like that moment in time and the this song playing in the background, many things in life just fall into place and setting that you need to take in and ignore everything else for just that time. Thanks ELO for this one, it is strange magic.

  • Amazing talent. ELO greatest band of all time!

  • I've always enjoyed this song. Such a hauntingly beautiful melody.

  • Epic!!! My fav. ELO songs are Turn to stone, Mr.Kingdom and El dorado. The poor kids today dont know whats real MUSIC........

  • I sing on Evil Women, Night Rider, Down Home Town, Strange Magic all from the Face The Music Album by ELO. I was in a group called SuMagNa. Ellie Greenwich is also singing on these tracks with us. Thank you for your compliments.

    Marge Raymond

  • Marge Raymond, you are so beautiful, your singing is wonderful.

Even the deepest frozen tundra of an icy winter, this track make my heart and soul glow with warm summer sunshine.

Tell me please did you sing more hauntings on other tracks?

  • Makes me want to be in looooooove, to be held by the man who takes me to the end of the earth just by looking at me.

  • This was one great band to see in concert in the 1970's ...I saw them on 4 different tours... They played this tune live it blew me away .......

  • @ABlastFromYourPast you lucky duck! i'm so jealous!

  • "エルドラド"でただ事じゃなくなり、この"FaceTheMusic"で確信、エレクトリック・ライト・オーケストラの魔術、広大無辺の愛の”ワン・サマー・ドリーム"

  • Amazing and a wonderfully haunting song.

  • Marge Raymond, To say this is a beautiful tune is a vast understatement.

  • One summer dream-letnie marzenie! Jeff is fantastic!ELO 4ever!

  • One of my all time favorite songs, period..... has an ethereal quality to it that gives me chills every time I hear it....

  • Lovely Good on you girl

  • What an great song!!!!

    What a dream life is!!!

    ELO Thank you.... :O)

  • I sang with the group SuMagNa and Ellie Greenwich is on this track. We all got credit on the liner notes on the album. There are pictures of me and the other girls on tour with ELO. They are on a site called ELO Secret Messages. The Face The Music Album is timeless and wonderful. One Summer Dream has all our voices on it in unison, sounding like one voice singing "One Summer Dream".

    Marge Raymond

  • @Starz723 Hello Marge, thank you for your singing and comments! We (all the ELO/Jeff Lynne-fans all over the world) would certainly agree with you: Face the Music is timeless, brilliant and wonderful. And btw - I also love your contribution on, for example, "Nightrider". All the best to you. A lot of ELOVE from me.

  • One Summer Dream in my opinion is a song that makes you look out the window and over the countryside. When I listen to it, It makes me appreciate the world we live in and makes me notice the various parts of it we don't normally notice.

  • ♪♫♥²↑⁀⁀☼ ;-j

  • This song was written 30 years before the Goldfrapp attempt at a tune.

So you think it sounds a bit like" you only live twice"by barry, well not quite.Lets just say your not a string man,but a tempo man and thats were the similarity arises.Whilst moaning about folk stealing bits of music, what do you think of Robbie stealing the intro for "All over the world" on his so called "millenium" classic.

  • The main melody of this song also shows up in two John Barry songs and "Time Out From The World" by Goldfrapp. Can't be an accident, could it? Does the melody come from an older song by a classical composer?

  • @Grubbo if you call John Lennon classical, the song is #9 Dream. Also, if you mean the John Barry of James Bond fame, yes, indeed, You Only Live Twice.

  • Sat at work, listening to ELO, remembering by gone days of being a small child with my now deceased father playing these guys on the car radio and having my eyes opened up to real music.

/ lets life pass me by in a haze of happy nostalgia

  • Lovely mellow song...Thank you ELO for so many wonderful music classics and some great memories listening to them all again,

  • Mmmmm....I love this song as much now as when I first heard it in the 70's. Thanks ELO, you melodies make my heart sing :)

  • I first listened to the LP A new world redord, because I knew of it through the global hit Living Thing. Then, my friends and I loved the group and discovered the LP Face the Music, where there are gems like this or Fire in the High. I thought this one was better than the other, though it was less known.

  • O.K. ! From Santiago de CHile

  • somebody needs to pull the dick out of his ass and start listening to real music

  • I haven't heard this song in such a long time. I'd forgotten how beautiful it was..

  • a little weed goes good with this one!!!!!

  • For some strange reason this reminds of the movie "The Wizard Of Oz"

  • I LOVE this tune--great string arrangement. I could just close my eyes and let this music just "wash" over me.

  • muy buena composición musical,Buenos Aires, Argentinqa.

  • just sat hear listening to old ELO,can't believe how bloody good it is

  • Hi everyone..this is Marge Raymond, one of the background vocalists on this track. You can hear us singing the haunting One Summer Dream. This was one of Jeff Lynne's favorite tune. A beautiful tune.

  • @Starz723 Was one of Jeff's favorite?????No longer is?Hmmm,

  • @Starz723 Hi Marge just wanted to say that this is a fantastic song and your backing vocals are hauntingly beautiful.

  • @Starz723 Marge thank you for your contribution to this incredible song. Jeff Lynne is without doubt one of the most underrated composers of our generation. Pure magic!!

  • @Starz723

    Beautiful timesless stuff.

  • @Starz723 Thank you for your wonderful work on this track! What a thrill it would be to work with Jeff Jynne...wow. It was always my favorite and I loved that he decided to include it in the Zoom Tour DVD. That shows that either a lot of people loved it or he loved it......or both! Fantastic job!

  • @Starz723 Marge, you sound fabulous on this track, thanks for contributing to this incredible work of art.

  • @Starz723 Marge, you are a legend for helping to make such beautiful pieces of music! I was born in Jan 76 just after this album was made, but my parents brought me up on ELO and I luv em to this day. Long live GOOD music. Less of Simon Cowell n more of this!!

  • @Starz723

Very beautiful! This song brings so much happiness, I like harmony in the end with the sharps and flats, so wonderful! Thank you! Cheers,

    Andy

  • @Starz723

Thanks for helping to contribute to one of my favourite all time tracks and the album in general x

  • @Starz723

    This is epic.............

  • I just fond my ole 45 collection and there was this song. OMG, I had totally forgotten, thank you so much for sharing it, brings tears to my eyes!!

  • I wish the radio would play this once for every 500 times they kill Fire on High.

  • hauntingly beautiful

  • absolutely beautiful :)

  • How about Jeffs "One Winter Dream"....It happened today, with Birmingham football club winning a trophy at Wembley, followed by the fans singing Jeffs "Mr Blue Sky".

  • Best listened to with the lights off and headphones. The Master of haunting, beautiful melodies. Thanks Jeff Lynne!

  • 1 of the best!!

  • I'm 14 and even I love this music. My dad listens to it all the time, and I like to listen to it with him. It's the truest true that music can get.

  • Another beautiful ELO song!

  • Intro is so sad but superb, my fav ELO song.

  • Brilliant.

  • all song lyrics are technically poetry....artists like jeff have a special talent for painting wonderful pictures with words...i thank him and all the others for painting these pictures that have carried me through more than 5 decades of life

  • love those female backing vocals just lurking in the background

  • so pretty.

  • Kind of a riff on theme from John Barry's great "You Only Live Twice'. Whatever, very nice.

  • @saguaroboy glad someone else caught it, I wonder if the lyrics mesh in some quirky way.

  • This song could be the soundtrack of my death.

  • @POLLOGIOVA ......GIVE ME YOUR ADDRESS IT CAN BE ARRANGED....LOL, BUT I KNOW EXATLY WHAT YOU MEAN, REALLY

  • My. Favorite. Song.

    Ever.

  • My brother intoduced m to ELO and even thoug we don't talk today, I am grateful to him to turning me on to ELO. I was fortunate to see them in concert and I have all of their cds and of course listen to them on Youtube. Long live Jeff Lynne and ELO.

    Love you Boys!!!!

Please come back and tour again.

  • Amazing song, todays music can not compare with ELO. I'm so happy my dad liked ELO so that I heard there songs, now there my favorite band.

  • @GeneralSeric Can totally relate to that buddy, spent many a happy hour as a kid in the 80s listenin to elo. Wtll never hear the likes o them again. Genius. Sad but true

  • sometimes its frightening to realise that this is the music from one man's heart and soul.

  • OK, 5 listens in a row. Time to

    listen to another ELO tune...

  • No other pop music group can bring out so many emotions as ELO. They are in the league of their own. Their music is immortal.

I am sure that 50 years from now, nobody will know of Gagas, Biebers etc, but ELO will be there. Fads change, but a beautiful music full of sophistication and emotions will last forever..

  • @ocmhanl Immortal-----------The best description of ELO's impact on our world. Can't be described any better! When I listen to their music, it is impossible for me to not be transported to another dimension almost instantly!

  • I've just refound ELO and this song has the same effect it had all those years ago ....sublime

  • Ilike this song so much. It`s magical. Uskomattoman hieno kappale.

  • I never tire of hearing this. I cried the first time I did.

  • Pure ecstacy....no one writes music like this anymore.

  • from another world, especially the chorus like a simphony of love. Jeff you are a MASTER.

  • I was born as ELO were hittin their peak n they are beyond compare. I cant think of a band that can touch em

  • LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! Cant stop listenin to it!

  • makes you tingle whenever you listen to this

  • If ELO was a religion, I'd be in church every Sunday.

  • @Heister1102 Iagree that.

  • @Heister1102 Iagree that!

  • I have read some of the comments about this beautiful music and i am so pleased that some people in this world also agree that this is one of jeff lynnes best tunes,in fact i would go further and say the best ELO ever did.

  • As a very young boy of 10 in 1975....I got it then. I get it now at 44. This has got to be on the soundtrack in heaven, right?

  • This song makes you slouch back into your favourite armchair n float away into summers of your past! Beautiful track

  • Chorus is reminiscent of 'Midnight Cowboy' theme. A major/ Amajor 7th/ Eminor7 add g/ Eminor9/ E minor 7th. For musicians only.

  • Another great track from a great album.

  • Great song from a great album. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • The instrumentals on this alone make me cry, they are so beautiful

Add the lyrics and "I'm turned to" Complet Utter MUSH!

TY for posting this sonf & thanks to ELGROOVER for posting the lyrics

  • I remember listening to this on the B side of the blue vinyl edition of Mr.Blue Sky.

This could have quite easily been made into a double A side single. Beautiful, haunting and timeless. Close your eyes and you could be floating on a cloud.

  • been loving elo for over 30 years now.. they are the best of all time

  • I want this played on my funeral.

  • This song reminds me of some serious unrequited love I endured in my early 20s.

    Boy, those were the days...

  • @goshinman50 i got the same experience.....17-20 i was

  • so true

  • I totally agree - How did we ever get from this beautiful music to the crap we have to listen to now?

  • ELO are legends. Grew up listening to em n still fresh to me. ACE! Wish music was made like this now instead of Simon Cowell's shit bein forced on us! High waisted trouser wearing, camp, smug, talentless dick!

  • Reminds me a bit of John Lennon's Number 9 Dream....

  • Good thought. I've heard this song a million times and never thought that. The voice is very close.

  • I had the green vinyl version of this album - as someone else says here - God these guys were good!!!

  • This is great! Roy Wood was the brains behind ELO, you can hear this in some of Roy's music - Forever?

  • Dear God these guys were good

  • as an avid ELO fan this is still my all time favourite track and if it is played at my funeral i will be quite happy ! long live jeff lynne,a true genious .

  • Doesn't get much better than this

  • it was john lennon, the quote was " ah, son of beatle"

  • my fave- sounds weird but i equate this with civil war photos by brady. gettysburg- july 3 thru 5

  • Great answer! You know your stuff!

    Much Thanks...

  • Why do people have to use such a great fromat as this to purvey their ignorance and swear?? Go read a freakin' thesaurus will ya!!!!! Meanwhile, the rest of with musical taste will enjoy the amazing sounds of Mr. Lynne.

  • In the first 20 seconds of this song there is a chord progression. I heard a song that ends with this chord progression with a piano lead. I dont know if its by ELO, but I have been dying to figure out what it was becasue it was a beautiful song. Ive heard it twice on the radio, and both times they played fire on high afterwards

  • I remember my mom bought Face the Music back in 1975 just to get this song. Only rock album she ever had.

  • Yeah we had the 8-track. Mom would dance to "Down home town". Remember it like it was yesterday.

  • Era muy joven en esa epoca ! Hoy estoy enfermo pero ELO me acompano siempre ! y me siento mas joven que nunca ! 70's BUENOS TIEMPOS !!

  • who inspired who? George Harrison inspired Jeff Lynne or the other way around? The similarities are there to hear.

I know they were good friends and recorded together with The Traveling Wilburys. Both obviously great artists

  • Well it wasn't so much that it was George Harrison that inspired Jeff Lynne, Jeff was inspired by the Beatles as a whole when they were still together, when he founded ELO with Roy Wood their intention was to pick up from where the Beatles left off. It was either George or John that said that if the Beatles carried on they would've sounded similar to ELO

  • greatest band of all time, never a bad song,

  • I agree. Everything from NO ANSWER through TIME was awesome.

  • MAGNIFIQUE!!!!

  • just amazing many thanks jeff for all the memories you have given me through your music!!!!!!

  • I wish they would make another Electric Light Orchestra musical. Xanadu is campy, but given the chance, a real musical would be nice. If "Across the Universe" could be made, why not an "Eldorado" or "Time" or something like that? I'd stand in line for it, it'd be the next best thing to a concert.

  • i love this song and 70's rock bands but FUCK..I HATE HATE HATE that warped cassette sound. jeezus, its beyond annoying. is there anyway one can do away with that????

  • tout simplement extraordinaire, sublime

  • the best 70´s elo song?

i heard and own everything from ELO and this song puts me goose gumps every time i hear it,those great chord changes that strings thank you jeff and stingman Louis Clark.

a hug for all ELO fans here.

  • reallly great

  • ¡Qué hermosa canción!. Año 1975, "One Summer Dream", "Un Sueño de Verano".

  • cudowne <3

niesamowite mam wspomnienia związane z tą piosenkę <333

  • 1st heard this song in 76 I believe, blew me away back then, still does to this day

  • @HamiltonHellhound Me too. When I think of Kathy kicking me to the curb, this song plays in my head, all by itself.

  • This song is ageless

  • you cant post all the lyrics.

  • So I go though it hurts me so I'm crying for your love. Deep waters flow, out to the sea They never needed you or me One Summer Dream.. Blue Mountains high and valley low I don't know which way I should go One Summer Dream.. Warm summer breeze blows endlessly Touching the hearts of those who feel One Summer Dream.. Bird on the wing goes floating by But there's a teardrop in his eye One Summer Dream.. Deep waters flow out to the sea One summer breeze blows endlessly One summer dream..
  • @ELGROOVER Fancy seeing you here, Groover, even if that comment was from about a year ago! It's BrzNinja's alt, the one who first commented on your Jeff Beck - Grease Monkey video! I see you enjoy ELO as well. Small world. XD

  • Thank you goudvinger! Easily one of the best rock tunes of all time. ELO is in the top five groups, and Jeff Lynne is the most underrated songwriter in history. Beautiful music.

  • Yes, you are right - Jeff is the most underrated songwriter in history. And I wonder why he has always been so modest in his appearances...

  • What i would give to be able to go back in time and see ELO in concert, say about 1978 or so!!

  • I'm having a little trouble catchin all the lyrics to the song. can anyone post them up?

  • youtube wont let you put more than 500 characters... sorry man

  • One of the best songs ever written and one of the few songs that will live long after all the others have fallen away. The end of this song is that of life itself, tell me if I am wrong! It will set your mood!

  • ontherewf---you are right...this song evolkes many emotions and everyone sees it different.....some are sad, some just reminise old days.....But this is rare conbo of soul stirring lyrics coupled to a wonderfull arrangement and vocal.....just a brilliant song

  • majestic :)

  • When I was a teen a bud and I used to get baked and watch the sunset to E.L.O. This reminds me of those good times.

  • This i have decided will be played at my funeral as it is without a doubt the most beautiful song i have ever heard and will leave all who knew me crying in the aisles !.

  • Ha! I told my wife to play "I'm Alive" from Xanadu! Have them all dancing in the aisles! (Hopefuly, they don't play "So Glad You Said Goodbye" by ELO Part 2!)

  • that is so funny man! I thought I was the only one on Planet Earth that actually owned the Xanadu album as a kid. Still remember the art on the back with Olivia Newton John holding the ELO symbol above her head.
