  • Poverty and Extreme Poverty in America and the rest of the World comes from a lack of investment from the Private Sector. As well into the Private Sector. And a lack of quality educational and employment opportunity's. As well as corruption.

  • It is all managed wrong. it can be resolved in one day.

  • Poverty only exists because of patent rights. A patent grant does not give the barer the right to produce, distribute, sell, export or imports something, it just gives them the right to prohibit everyone else from doing so, and that alone is enough to keep most people employed instead of self employed. At the same time, state and local governments conspire to impose further conditions and restrictions on our freedom to engage in free trade- zoning, licensing, permits, insurance, bonding, etc.

  • long overdue should be highly prized ...

  • It is a simple story. The earth, its land and natural resources, are highly concentrated in ownership, some say 3-5% own 80+%. This means that some some small percentage of our kind have the right to charge the rest of us for access to our own planet, a wholly unearned income to them. This makes them grotesquely rich (unearned) and the rest of us sharecroppers. If some can't afford to pay the fee for access they are slaves or they die. This is more fundamental than the money/financial system.

  • "there have to be classes in order to have any value to resources. if they were given free, no one would buy it."

So what exactly are you trying to argue? Are you saying that if no one was buying resources that no one would use them and we'd all just sit and rot?

  • fascist!

  • He's trying to say that (at least how I read it) is if resources were given for free, buying them would not be a necessity.

  • No, he's advocating capitalism and not realizing that removing the value of resources does not negate our need for them.

  • I have no idea who you're replying to. For me, youtube isn't showing the staggered form of who's response is a reply to another.

    Regardless, I agree.

  • This whole system we are living in is totally wrong for 99% of the population.

"The rich get richer and the poor get poorer"

Maybe a Zeitgeist movement is the solution but it takes enormous effort by the common citizens to say no to the material thinking, selfishness, old traditions etc.

  • You do realize that even the supposed "Zeitgeist Movement" needs a system? Any system proposed will always have an inherent flaw - the hierarchy of people. The only way to overcome this flaw is if everyone conformed.

Without a system, anarchy exist. People are willing to forgo parts of their freedom for protection. Also, to replace an old system with a new one, you need anarchy or some kind of conflict to occur. Africa is an example of this. Not good? Try Revolutionary War.

  • We'd just have to ensure that there is a system in place that allows everyone to easily overthrow the top of the hierarchy if deemed necessary under certain conditions. For example, a resource war would deem it necessary because those shouldn't happen to begin with. In other words, design a system that allows the numerous at the bottom to immediately redeem control if one at the top goes ballistic.

  • Hope this movie gets its European wide release and comes to Ireland!!!!

  • Those in power should be removed and brought to live a life like these people who can barely live. I've lost all respect for all authority that controls countries and will "play the game" as little as possible. For example, I will never vote - I refuse to play the game of upholding an illogical system - "democracy" is a lie and I am above it.

  • Yes, because removing those in power and so on can be easily done or realistic. And not voting and saying, "Democracy is a lie," is definitely a step towards a better life for all.

Democracy as a concept is good, but in practice, it gets messy. Also, refusing to vote doesn't place you above the system. It just means you give up your power in the given system.

Childish proclaims and delusions of a utopia makes you no better than those supposed men in power.

  • Democracy as we know it doesn't not exist, it is simply there as a delusion to the public. You should know that. I have no power in the system, no one does. By refusing to vote I simply accept that it's meaningless anyway so it's my version of a middle finger.

A 'utopia' as you call it is not a childish delusion, it can be made a realism if we all want to. But yes, that is the problem to begin with. Perhaps we do in fact need a revolutionary war, who knows.

  • Comment removed

  • If we use democracy as an abstract, then of course there will be some delusion when applied.

In a practical sense, I believe democracy is still alive and not delusional. I think the problem is that we're going away from a democratic system to a whole new on. The question - are people of aware of this transition?

The thing about an illusion is not whether you are aware of it, but if you know how to escape it.

  • Utopia is a "perfect place" (i.e. ideal system). Do you know what ideal is or the standard of ideal? If you do, then can you make +6B people follow it?

In an abstract sense, it won't work. So, maybe make it practical enough then. But no matter what, utopia is a place of no conflict and thus requires conformity among all people.

If you mean that we can live in a better world, then yeah, I'm on board for that.

  • This system is absolute failure!

That's for sure, viva zeitgeist movement ... or anything different and transitional !

  • the heirarchy of the world:

    Transnational Companies

    Government

    The people

    thats the problem.

  • though oddly enough there IS enough money to fund the proposed £70million upgrade to the UK trident missile system, and the cost so far of the afghanistan conflict of over £2.5bn.

Seems to be an issue of priorities.

  • It is absolutely ridiculous... I think the only reason why the allow this movie out to cinema is because they are telling more or less things that we all know...

  • i would predict poverty would double very soon lots of health organizations cant feedpeople because there is not enough money

  • CptEggman, that is a naive and simple way to look at a very sopisticated global issue...

  • no, it's quite simple.

anyone who tells you economics is complicated doesn't understand it himself.

poverty is a monetary creation. the idea of a class of poor people exists because it is inherent in the system.

there have to be classes in order to have any value to resources. if they were given free, no one would buy it.

are you able to understand that?
