I fractured and dislocated my elbow 10 months ago and had surgery. Now, I have pretty much full range on flexion, but can't extend my arm more than 15-30 degrees of lockout, and my pronation and supination suck- I can only turn my hand palm up or palm down about 30-45 degrees from a neutral handshake position, no matter how much I work it. How is your supination and pronation?
@thepsychopimp Extension/supination/pronation were all about 95% of my other arm after the surgery and PT, but they've gotten a lot worse since then, as the bone spurs have grown back. :(
@Blenderate I feel you. I wake up in the morning and my hand is frozen in a Karate chop position. I can't receive change with that hand, and I can no longer deadlift, my pet exercise. I can only lift with my hand in a neutral position. And then there is the chronic pain...
Hey man im 15. Fractured my elbow in many pieces, got plates all over it. cant straighten (surgery was in july) but im working it man thanks for the inspiration.
This is very inspiring. Im 24 years of age. I love the gym and i got up to 15 stone and i was benching 140kg unitl i fracured my elbow in june 2010. I shattered my elbow but then it also grew new bone in the wrong places stopping my arm extending it and touching my shoulder. I have my operation in january 2011. I do go the gym still but its so hard. How did operation go for you? Did you ever get back what you was lifting? Good video
@ste867 Went pretty well, all things considering. I just benched 429 (195 kg) in the gym the other day. Keep your head up! Your arm will never be as good as new, but that doesn't mean you still can't do great things with what you've got.
@Blenderate Very well said, I suffered from a TFCC tear on my wrist, very disabling injury for weight and power training, but with patience and slow training, you will still be able to push your body and excel in other forms of physical prowess, my wrist is never 100% as good as before, but over all actually never felt as good as I have right now. It was depressing at first though, I must admit.
I feel off my deck 9/17/10 and smashed the radial head into about 4 pieces and smashed off a piece of the ulna, and dislocated it about 2 inches out of the joint, completely rupturing the main ligament. I'm now struggling to regain ranges of motion- from 90 degrees to the face is hard. I deadlifted 435x10 earlier this year and now I'm struggling to eat and drink with this hand! They tell me I have early signs of HO- heterotopic ossification and may need a second surgery in 6 months.
Wow Man your a beast with one arm!!! I just got diagnosed with a bone spur in my elbow and was wondering if the surgery benefited you? Like were you able to return to 100 percent?
@bpajuelo Yes, the surgery gave me back some of my range of motion. No, my arm will never be as good as it would have been if I never never broken it.
What kinda injury did/you have and how long was/is your arm outta action?, and when it finally healed/heals will you be able to properly workout with it to as much as possible to near the same extent as you did before ?.
very inspiring Andy , i just have the index finger top part amputated because a sharp iron dumbell has fall on my finger ,and i am looking forward if you have some advice for me regarding what exercises can i do for lower body if i don't have a Safety squat bar ...
thanks man you are such a great motivation in this hard moments ....keep up !
Ouch. You can do belt squats with a dip belt. Put your feet on two benches and let the weight hang in between. You can also squat with a normal bar, holding on with only one hand. If you can get a hold of a Manta Ray (the molded blue plastic thing), it helps a lot with balancing the bar.
how did you develop the bone spurs? Just curious.. I fractured my radial head about a year ago and im heading to the doc this week to ask about some pain im still experiencing in the joint...
This dude will be under the knife again real soon lol... go light dumb ass
