Making a fighter miss is not that amazing a feat, if he had countered every time i would have been impressed but he just wasn't good enough as every time he threw a shot he got hit flush. Pac/Mosley was a similar fight in that only one man came to fight and the other one to survive.

He's got great upper body movement but in order to be competitive at world level he needs something with it and that is counter punching.

@MegaSlayerr I understand the gameplan ok and on paper it was sound enough, i just don't think it was a smart plan in reality. I think McCloskey realised Khan would come out fast and looking for the early knockout to impress his home fans, which he did but i do think if the fight hadn't been stopped Khan would of had to slow down and pick his shots better due to McCloskey's early tactics but i do not think McCloskey could have KO'd him, his hand speed isn't great and he lacks true KO power.

@obewild Also the only reason Maidana didnt finish him off in the later rounds is because maidana fought the earlier rounds and simply didnt have it in the tank to finish him at that point no had he made khan miss more he could have had that bit more energy
@MegaSlayerr Maidana is a brawler, he isn't a particularly slick fighter and isn't known to counter punch, he fights one way and that is it and he's good at being a brawler. Noone should ever go into a fight planning on losing the first 6 rounds no matter how good you think your plan is, especially in an orthodox vs southpaw fight as head clashes are extremely common due to their stances. Silly gameplan.

Khan's gameplan was what was needed against an awkward southpaw, which is to throw lots of combinations as at least 2 or 3 out of 4 or 5 shots were landing. It's easy to talk your gameplan up after you've been beaten, it happens a lot in boxing.
Anyone who honestly believes McCloskey stood a chance at knocking khan out if the fight hadn't been stopped (which was terrible refereeing) is blinded by national pride. I don't think he'll fight on the "British" scene, especially as he trains in Belfast (considered Ireland's premier gym by some). Also he only fought for the "British" title to prove that he was good enough and could take it.
That Fight was a Joke, it was for a World title, look at Maidana vs Morales last weekend, Morales fought with one eye shut, McCloskey had a little scratch, if McCloskey does not get a rematch, Wba should strip Khan of the title.

the fights ive seen from this guy, it seems he goes toe to toe with the other guy and trades blows. This is an amazing opportunity for McCloskey, and if he wins leap frogs to the top of this division. However Khan has all the advantages. If you are to believe that victory is achieved long before the fight then Khan trained by Freedie Roach, sparring with Pacman and supported by Golden Boy definately has the edge. Look at Khan's previous 4 opponents compared with McCloskey. In the Ring McCloskey needs to worry about Khan's power and speed however McCloskey will have no trouble landing either.
Theres no chance he can win. Khan is too fast, has way more firepower and has amazing footwork. Also, he trains with the likes of Pacman ect. I'd say this fight won't go more than 6 rounds. TKO victory for Khan. Next is Berto

paul seems to actually be a decently skilled fighter, but he is just average in physical ability. I think Khan will stop him because Khan is just too fast and strong at 140 right now, and paul doesn't have the punch to stop amir from unleashing combo's.
could mccloskey do a sergio martinez and really rise to prominence this year... sounds far fetched.... but beating khan, would open the door for a fight against tim bradley.... and if all goes well he may well find himself in p4p recognition....

Remember McCloskey has great reflexes & a decent punch, Khan's chin is still suspect as he panics when hit hard, some fighters excel when they fight better boxers, this could be the case, styles make fights. I cant believe people think this is going to be an easy fight for Khan or a sure KO for McCloskey?! This is a fight that could be great, Paul is 31 and this is his shot, he has nothing to lose, he is irish so he is tough, he is hard to hit and is a counter punching southpaw, he makes people miss, Khan has excellent speed and decent power, but that didnt stop Maidana walking him down and landing telegraph shots in round 10. Khan ran from then on. This fight is 60/40 in favour of khan in my view.

@EmeraldIsleStar lol McCloskey has never been floored as before Khan he never fought a decent fighter. Khan won, get over it and get on with your life. Making a fighter miss is not that amazing a feat, if he had countered every time i would have been impressed but he just wasn't good enough as every time he threw a shot he got hit flush. Pac/Mosley was a similar fight in that only one man came to fight and the other one to survive.

He's got great upper body movement but in order to be competitive at world level he needs something with it and that is counter punching.

@MegaSlayerr I understand the gameplan ok and on paper it was sound enough, i just don't think it was a smart plan in reality. I think McCloskey realised Khan would come out fast and looking for the early knockout to impress his home fans, which he did but i do think if the fight hadn't been stopped Khan would of had to slow down and pick his shots better due to McCloskey's early tactics but i do not think McCloskey could have KO'd him, his hand speed isn't great and he lacks true KO power.

@MegaSlayerr Maidana is a brawler, he isn't a particularly slick fighter and isn't known to counter punch, he fights one way and that is it and he's good at being a brawler. Noone should ever go into a fight planning on losing the first 6 rounds no matter how good you think your plan is, especially in an orthodox vs southpaw fight as head clashes are extremely common due to their stances. Silly gameplan.

@EmeraldIsleStar you obviously don't know boxing as that was never happening as every time Paul threw a shot he got hit with 2 or 3 back so he stopped throwing. Khan's gameplan was what was needed against an awkward southpaw, which is to throw lots of combinations as at least 2 or 3 out of 4 or 5 shots were landing. It's easy to talk your gameplan up after you've been beaten, it happens a lot in boxing.

Anyone who honestly believes McCloskey stood a chance at knocking khan out if the fight hadn't been stopped (which was terrible refereeing) is blinded by national pride. Seriously, you either don't watch much boxing or are just sticking up for 'your guy' but Paul has little power, is very very slow and Khan was starting to really hurt him in the 6th as he was connecting more and more, McCloskey would have been KO'd if it went on another 2 or 3 rounds that much was obvious.

This is an amazing opportunity for McCloskey, and if he wins leap frogs to the top of this division. However Khan has all the advantages. If you are to believe that victory is achieved long before the fight then Khan trained by Freedie Roach, sparring with Pacman and supported by Golden Boy definately has the edge. Look at Khan's previous 4 opponents compared with McCloskey. In the Ring McCloskey needs to worry about Khan's power and speed however McCloskey will have no trouble landing either.

all these people saying that khan spars with Pacquiao need to stop kidding themselves. Pacman see's no difference between hitting khan and hitting the bag. Khan's a tourist in that gym. McCloskey's undoubtedly a better boxer than khan in terms of actual boxing, but khan is stronger and a good fighter. Itll be interesting to see how khan will fight such a stylist, since he has no experience in style or skill. His flurry punches may work on the faster fighters, but not on a tactician like dudey.

Remember McCloskey has great reflexes & a decent punch, Khan's chin is still suspect as he panics when hit hard, some fighters excel when they fight better boxers, this could be the case, styles make fights. This could be a cracker or it could be a shut out by Khans speed. Lets see, give McCloskey a chance. Maidana tried to block Khans shots, Paul will try slip them, if he does and lands then god knows what can happen. Mayweather will beat PacMan and Khan, just watch the Mosley fight, unbeatable

I cant believe people think this is going to be an easy fight for Khan or a sure KO for McCloskey?! This is a fight that could be great, Paul is 31 and this is his shot, he has nothing to lose, he is irish so he is tough, he is hard to hit and is a counter punching southpaw, he makes people miss, Khan has excellent speed and decent power, but that didnt stop Maidana walking him down and landing telegraph shots in round 10. Khan ran from then on. This fight is 60/40 in favour of khan in my view.

McCloskey may not be as fast but if slow Maidana who has little to no technical skill than it shouldnt be a problem for McCloskey to give Khan trouble not to mention Irish are known to have hearts like Mexicans so Khan better hope to knock him out or else its gonna be a long nite, i got McCloskey for the win UD..
