Just a note to say thank you so much for these tutorials. In all my years of 3D work on various software, learning Maya and the beginning of Mudbox with you has been so easy compared to the rest. It's such a pity you weren't able to finish this off. Is there anywhere you would recommend that would teach me in a similar method the final parts of your tutorials. I'm mainly concerned about finishing off the work in Mudbox. The mentioned UDK section will not be a problem.
What a series and resource, thanks so much. The detail you go into is second to none. I also hope you find the time to finish this, but I have learnt so much already. If you kept this level of explanation, I'd be happy to buy a DVD/download of this or your next project. Good luck with the wiiU title.
Hi buddy ...I'm really busy at the moment as I am working on Wii U launch title, but I may be doing some work on a new tutorial for a new tutorial company soon.
I will be doing a series on next gen texturing and high poly low poly game assets so stay tuned. If you have any technical questions send me a message. Thanks for your interest.
@pipesfranco roughly how much more powerful is the wiiu compared to the ps3?if u can give us the real tech specs then that would be great!since a lot of people are saying that it's just a stopgap to ps4 etc.
@pipesfranco Could you give any hints towards the Wii U's final dev kit's specs? :D Or at least how it compares to the original custom Radeon 4xxx rumors?
I have a question. If we want hard edges (like the video) normaly we use the edge loops (or bevel), however this results in a much larger poly count, not in the example of a small object, but yes in a building with 50 windows for example. In mudbox you can go to options of add subdiv level detail (instead shift + D) and disable the option "smooth positions" (by default its on). Why many people didn't use this option instead add edge loops/bevel on hard edges? sorry my English suck
I'm really impressed of ur abilities :) god bless u for this amazing effort :)
i was just wondering after i created the model, duplicated it and started to add details on the duplicated model wouldn't effect the uvs in this case! plus how can i add details in this way in case all of them r squares they wont match!
finally, how will you take the high res mesh from mudbox, normal map it in the med mesh and normal map it in the low one. sorry im confused here :(
@smileii7 We duplicate the mesh to give us more uniform subdivision in Mudbox. Adding further geometry as long as the verts are not moved the uvs will be fine.
We use Mudbox to increase the fine details and to generate a normal map from the higher res version we sculpt.
This Normal map can applied to the low res Maya mesh and it will reflect the high sculpted detail from the Normal map.
Many Thanks for the comments.
I am now working in the industry so my freetime has been cut drastically!
thanks a lot for your immediate reply :) so what ur pointing as is the highest res from mudbox can be applied to the lowest res in maya(the one without the finery detail). ?
i really liked you udk environment as well and i'm really interested in a full tutorial to how create such environment in maya and transfer it to udk , seting it up, and post production..etc to the final stage. i know ur in the industry now but if u can guide me to a video tuotrial or such
that can show such process in details. hence, i hav red the mastering unreal engine book by jason buzby, did the eat 3d udk video tutorial(intro) and some of 3d buzz and epic vide tutorials however non of them give a process of creating such environment in a 3d package and importing to udk and fitting things up. so i always get lost in the middle :(
Wow... Great feature. that will be very hand for covering up seams. Question I have Mudbox 2009, So So I am like 3 versions behind the one show here. I should be able to follow along still minus a few great features right?
@ninjabuntu Yeah you will be fine....its just a few little things that can still be done....I will be recording some more this weekend....thanks for the comments.
Awesome, that a load off my mind... Please ignore the the comment on video eleven. I posted that thinking that my comment didn't take and was lost before I realized I had already posted it here instead.
