Say what he will, Bloody Sunday is a potent phrase for one reason, a reason that predates this song by a decade and predicated the last, most horrific leg of the troubles: No Irishmen, especially republican catholic kids like the Bono and Edge who wrote this song could, or would want to alter the images that chorus screams at you, this is a Rebel song.
this is an awesome video regardless of the political implications. thank you so much for posting this, and i will eventually learn how to use the CAPS button on my keyboard!!!
@tmoney12346 Protestants and Catholics live together peacefully, a few radicals try and screw it up. Everyone agrees that Bono has the most shockingly bad haircut in this video ever. Amen.
Sunday Bloody Sunday. What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".
This is the Welsh band called You Two. The singer is called Bone & the guitar player is called The Hedge. This song is called Bloody Sunday because Bone doesn't like Sundays. He prefers to stay in bed.
Correct my american self if I'm wrong. But isnt the RIRA still trying to free the north? Because the old IRA sided with the British? Im kinda confused i thought the whole point of the original IRA was to get England out so Ireland can run itself. How is the country free if England still has their hands in it? Idk maybe I'm misinformed. I dont live in Ireland
Eminemfan844, you think U2 is better than Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles?, they have put out some great music there is no doubt, but they are just a little short when it comes to matching up to those bands I have mentioned.

Of course it's about bloody sunday ffs. After IRA Enniskillen bomb Bobo always went out of his way to point out it's "not a rebel song" - ie he wants to clarify he doesn't support the ira. You can be anti-bloody Sunday without being pro-ira. Also, Irish rebel songs were rampant at that time so he didn't want this to be confused for one. Response to this song at the time was Sinead O'Connors "This IS a rebel song"

They voted to stay in uk because england for years and years have put anglicans there to have more influence. Ireland is madly catholic and I don't like it, but they have got their right to freedom. On January 30, 1972, British troops opened fire on unarmed and peaceful civilians in Derry, Ireland during a civil rights march. This music song is a tribute to the 14 killed and others wounded
THIS SONG TALKS ABOUT THE MASACRE ON A SUNDAY ON IRISH CIVILIANS PROTESTING AGAINST THE BRITISH ARMY PRESENCE ON THEIR STREETS TO FIGHT THE I.R.A: THE IRISH REPUBLIC ARMY WITH LOTS OF MEMEBERS AMONG THE POPULATION; IS AN HISTORICAL RESISTANCE AGAINST THE CROWN:::::::AS THE SCOTISH AND GALES PEOPLE HAVE DONE
AND IS NOT A REBEL SONG BUT A REVOLUTIONARY SONG:::::::::::::::::::::::
@MrEODTEK - over-rated in "all history"...you gotta ba a fuckin gimp in a prison cell somewhere!!! If you got out more then you'd know what the civilised world is about...
"THIS IS NOT A REBEL SONG" the hell it isn't! Love U2, but you can't sing a song like this, with a chorus like it has, about the single most defining moment in the modern era's troubles, and then relent. It's a song about British atrocities committed on a peaceful civil rights march that changed everything. I'll never understand why Irish celeb's feel the need to hide how they feel about what the Brit's have done to Erin for hundreds of years. It's called history, and it's well documented.
@scottykeane33 u2 never tried to hide what the brits had done.if you look at the 1987 version, they never tried to hide the killings the IRA have done too.and another version where bono lists all of the names of the omagh dead and who committed that? former members of the provisional IRA.i dont excuse britain but all the people of this country have ever wanted is no more bloodshed from either side.why should irish celeb's have to tell the world how they feel about it? what good will it do?
Whadya know, Boner's waving a white flag. Don't get me wrong, U2 has tons of great tunes, but I would push Boner down a big flight of stairs if given the chance.

@squeekspop59 This isnt a rebel song and that isnt the point. the whole point is that these guys are singin about the revolution that was goin on in their home country at the time.
@kilduff32 still is just got a mor diplomatic face
went to dublin last week and i witnessed at least 3 defrent protests related to the british "rule" of northern ireland i had no idea that it stil was that much alive
@benedick47 its NOT a rebel song, its a memorial song and it was written by a U2 member David Howell Evans, and known as The Edge. The 'war' took place back in 1972. 26 UNarmed civil right protesters were shot and killed on January 30, 1972 in Northern Ireland.
If you want to see the original version written by John Lennon, long before "Bono" ripped it off and even longer before "Bono" accepted Knighthood from the murderous crown, watch?v=cLZhNs7M1oE
This song is about a VERY SAD time in Ireland History. Wikileaks released a video of people being killed with 30mm Cannon fire from a US Military Apache Aircraft, Killing unarmed people armed with a CAMERA. Same type of senseless killing. When will it all end?

On form like that, U2 can't be touched. Epic song. Just shows the frustration and despair in Ireland at the time and it was a call to come together and stop the utter stupidity of this violence.
What a great song. It really encapsulates the frustration of a Sunday, doesn't it? You wake up in the morning, you've got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you've got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think "Sunday, bloody Sunday!".

John Lennon did a much better song about Bloody Sunday and it IS a rebel song.
benedick47 1 year ago

@Durbot999 are you kidding? The IRA killed so many people on Bloody Sunday...it's not just some stupid song about your weekend.
dirtpoe 1 year ago
@dirtpoe A massacre? Ugh. I'm not playing that again.
Durbot999 1 year ago
@dirtpoe the IRA???! Get serious please...
Check on wikipedia, before posting FUD.
And the songs was really not about that. The "NO MORE" shouts should give you a clue.
b100w11 1 year ago
@dirtpoe Are you serious? The IRA didn't kill those 13 people. The English Army did. Investigators just recently found this to be true.
ratmgnr1 1 year ago
@dirtpoe It was the RUF who killed so many people on that day not the IRA ..
