  • Wish I could have been there to see and hear this beauty idling

  • I love the way the Detroits sound when they are idling, especially when they aren't surging.

  • Sure would have been nice to hear the

throttle "juiced" a few times !! hehe

There is no sweeter sounding engine

anywhere in the world.....than a "tweaked" 12-71 at around 2800 - 3000 rpms under full load !.....Nothing !

  • Drop dead gorgeous. Very hard to find a better sounding idle than a DD 2 stroke. I make an exception for big brother EMD V12's. Same but different. This truck is a beautiful example of it's type. Great vid.

  • 12v71 with jakes by the tall valve covers.

  • wish i could find a truck like this in poor shape, would be fun to rebuild as a hobby

  • Are you sure that's a 12v92? I think it's a 12v71...a 12v92 would have 2 blocks, 4 heads, & 4 exhaust manifolds, and is essentially two 6v92's bolted together. Plus, it probably wouldn't fit into an over-the-highway application. The biggest DD 2-stroke on one block is the 12v71, which has a true v12firing order (which the engine in your vid demonstrates). Great vids though! :) Post more!

  • Its probably a 12v71 was running on about 4 hours sleep for a few days when I posted these videos.

  • have any more vids of this truck

  • there were some special app 12v92 engines in some coal trucks, but they were special order.
