not as reliable as a german or japanese made vehicle, but at least jeeps come with a 100,000 mile warranty (not 100% sure) and you get pretty good offroad capability for the money you pay.
@ThePurdude keep up with the news -massive Toyota and Nissan serious recalls, and VW has a less than clean history, American makes have pretty much caught up, + usually get more value for price.
@kevin77ism not any promise, but they just as reliable other popular vehicles. Many have driven Jeep Patriot over 20,000 miles with no issues. A few have had leaky sun roofs and or needed a ECU reflash, few minor issues. A good warranty, more affordable service than Asian/European, what's the worry?
I brought mine in 09.. had to take it back 5 times to get it fixed (under warranty of course).. funny thing is my wipers were constantly on for about 2 weeks(couldn't turn them off).. and i live in australia where it's bloody hot...
.. well it's either that or my car was a dud :(
also someone broke into my car and the quarter panel cost me $1500 to replace... i replaced my windscreen in my last car for less than half that price!!!
@woemua firstly who drives a car w faulty wipers for 2 weeks?? secondly, the cost of parts vary from car to car. But as most of others if u have insurance, who cares about the cost of a stupid panel....next time u wanna bag or even try to make a smart comment, maybe take the "ASS" part out of it! Get it?? don't worry, v did!
im sharing my experience, maybe you have had a better experience.
2 weeks was the quickest jeep could fit me in, after the initial assessment...
i do work so i guess i need to drive.
my panels were not covered by insurance- my insurance does not cover broken glass by theft- actually it does but i need to pay a higher premium of 2500.
jeez... i dont even know why i am responding... i didnt even know i offended you.
@kevin77ism The Patriot has a very underpowered 4 cyl. engine and feels more like a car than a Jeep. I would recommend the Jeep Commander, Jeep Wrangler, or Jeep Grand Cherokee due to this fact. There bigger and more offroad ready.
@KillerFox47 Couldn't agree more, my mom has a Patriot Limited with the 2.4L and a 5-speed manual transmission, but it's only front-wheel-drive. I tell her it's just a lifted Neon and she gets all pissy... :P Tell ya what though, it sure handles like a Jeep. I had it up on two wheels going around the on-ramp to the highway...
well folks i am the true owner and operator of my particular 2wd patriot. you will not attack me personally. i am sorry to inform you that my gf always signed in on my account-howi don't know but she has made some asenine(spellcheck?) comments and replies have come back to me. i'm sorry about the gf-she's a car chick and she knows what she is talking about too.
i grew up in GA dodging mud, sand roks and real trees in hurricanes in a 2wd chevy truck. i also own an 86 grand wagoneer that factory hieght and hiway tires go more places than some of the folks that have rock and mud rigs-'ve been the one to pull them out. i have been all over the east coast the south and southern california. i can and have out driven michiganders in dead winter. i have driven more places than most of you can count. that is just to square away the dissent.
so folks thats just to let you know the deal. driver skill and ability is the number one factor in any situation and on any terrain. your car is the second factor...anyone in san diego that wants to test drive one let me know-we'll take mine for a spin.
I find it funny, those of you comparing this vehicle to the older Cherokees. The only way this thing is in ANY form, like the old Cherokees, is in body and "JEEP" badging. We've gone very offroad in our Patriot, and it's a 4x2 :) You really don't need much more than driver-skill to get through a lot of what there is out there.
im broke and about to get out of highschool so i dont have alot of money to spend. do u know if i should settle with the 2WD should i bump it up to the 4WD
...well it all depends on whether or not you are going to use it for just around town or if you want to use it for some more serious activity off-road.
I just bought the 4WD version and I think that saving up the extra money could be worth it if you want to have a little bit more adventure :)
Also the various Jeep models have been offered in 2WD for years, do you really think a 2WD Cherokee or Wrangler unlimiter is really more capable than a 2WD Patriot. I can garantee a FWD Patriot would be a MUCH better vehicle in the snow.
Continued from my last comment No doubt the Wrangler, Cherokee, and Liberty have better offroad capability, but lose about 10 MPG in mixed driving Just comparing those 2, the Cherkee does have better off-road ability, but has less room EVERYWHERE , doesn't perform as well on-road, and is a LOT cruder vehicle all the way around, though I still love it. If Jeep didn't build these vehicles, Jeep would be dead. All oother models are losing sales, while the patriot is gaining them.
I own an 07 Patriot, 4x4 FDI with a 5 speed and yes Virginia even it is capable of some offroading, as they say, been there done that, LOVE the approach and departure angles. For the record there was no 4 inch lift avail . The FDII TRAILRATED version does have an extra inch of ground clearance, hill descent control, a "low range", skid plades and water fording capability (18 inches I believe).
a liberty is not a real jeep and if it wasn't for the six other jeeps in the line-up, jeep would not still be around today. so get over it and grow up
a liberty is way more capable of off roading then the patriot. off roading is what makes a jeep, thats what they are based around, ou cant even argue that. liberty and wrangler and cherokee were first three in lineup so if it wasnt for them than there would be no patriot :)
the wrangler is for off-roading and obveously the liberty is more capable off-road then the patriot. The patriot was the only jeep vechilce in the month of july to see increased sale numbers from last july.
Compare the front end (nose) beneath the bumper with the US version wich is Trail rated! It comes down much deeper and the Attack angle is nearly to nothing. The depart angle at the back is even better.
The day jeep made a "suv" lets say car-van,, that comes with the option of just FRONT WHEEL drive was a very sad one,, the patriot looks nice but is pretty much a car..SHame on you Jeep did you forget why people buy jeeps. Small good, fuel efficient-good, front wheel drive option-very bad, independent rear suspension-very very very very bad.. So jeep decided to market old ladies and women who have gravel driveways,,, cool
thats nothing...we raised our patriot 4 inches more and it goes through 2 foot snow and 4 foot snowdrifts.....it really is a verry offroad car for its itty bitty and fuel efitent size

I agree with you second statement, but jeep needs to offer more fuel effcient vechicles to survive today's economy
AzPatriot004455 3 years ago
true, many people are trading in their jeeps because of gas mileage. my friends liberty gets only 15 or 16 mpg even though it is not that big.
birdchirp123 3 years ago
nice cheap car if you want to wear the jeep badge on your car. but front wheel drive? what's up with that.
you wanna go off-roading?, stick with the wrangler.
