Unions have never helped out retirment benefits. Infact they fucked up so royalaly on pensions, that BUSINESS MEN cam up with 401K's and 403B's, not the stupid unions. Working men and women wouldn't have ANY form of retirement if it wasn't for the early labor movement fighting to the first retirement payments. And I meant about vacations, not just paid. It's unions that brought us things like sick time so that you couldn't be replaced like another number. It has been unions and their impact on the world of labor that created the middle class. @biggsaurora Unions DID make many of the things we come to expect a reality (job safety, work week limits, minimum wage, etc.) however those things are now all protected by the LAW and we no longer have a need for unions that suckle from the teat of the taxpayer without providing a needed service.
YES, the union CAN be blamed for the failure of American automakers. So can the executives who still took huge bonuses when their companies were failing!
