@BoundByGlory I'm pretty sure your taste in music is mediocre. The one thing this band has is talent.Justin bieber will be forgotten. Go listen to your shitty emo music.
I feel like people just go through videos and dislike things just to dislike them, because I have no earthly idea how someone could truly dislike this..
the reason you feel nostalgia is because they "bring the songs out of the astral plane" meaning they use astral projection to enter the astral plane and allow the songs to come to them, they then return and write based on what they heard. This implies that some kind of spirit exists and that life in this body is part of a cycle. look it up ^^
I am going to be moving to an area soon that should have alot of fields and the first thing im going to do is put this on my Mp3 player lay down in the field and look up at the stars like the most thumbs up user on this video said.
Someone mentioned their name in 'good neighbor' series of internet sketch video's in a list of bands worth checking out. It's what led me here. I'm glad I'm came don't get me wrong, but popular exposure breeds imitation breeds mediocrity - that's how we got to this place in the first place. But mediocrity breeds a desire to create something new, to stand isolated from the rest. It's how we make new sounds, by trying not to sound like what has already been created. Experimenting.
@DrVelvetProductions Because they're probably like the only two "metal" bands I've ever heard where the songs are just raw feeling and emotion. Don't get me wrong, maudlin of the Well and Opeth are definitely two entirely different bands, but where Opeth has perfectly captured the feeling of grieving, depression, and bleak subject matter, maudlin of the Well has captured the essence of the opposite spectrum with good feelings and beauty. They should be listened to back to back imo.
@MayhemFan666 I shall check them out right now, am I supposed to be listening to the doom metal band or the french hard rock band? :P Since we're partially on the subject of doom metal though, a great band to check out is called Colosseum (song: Corridors of Isolation). They're a little monotonous at first listen because they play so slow, but imo its really heart felt for its incredibly slow tempo.
@mobman47 Warning from the Uk,I probly shudve mentioned that hah,but uhm,...listen to the album "Watching From a Distance",that album blew my mind when I heard it all the way through, especially since im a big Sabbth Fan, but giv it a try.....you wont regret it...
opeth is both very beautiful and really ear fucking great shit, i love them, every album of theirs are different masterpieces, but this is only relaxing... and it doesn't sounds like opeth either... but it's good music i have to say...
maudlin of the Well is one of the few bands which can make me listen again and again without thinking "oh I want to listen to something unknown, that gets boring after a time".
I really loved this band and Kayo Dot is great, too, but their new

@guitrguy21 Woah, woah, woah... I don't know about that. You can't compare them at all. Maudlin is experimental, avant garde metal with elements of post/gaze at times. Opeth is not experimental at all. They're progressive and have strong elements of doom/stoner metal.

@1sidedMediation I don't swear by genre's but they really are quite useful. Think of them as adjectives -- words that can help you describe something. Words don't have to have a single strict denotation, just as genre's don't have to be a strict classification. It never hurts to have a wider vocabulary, right?

@SpeshelEdTed "Better than Opeth." Your crazy. Music isn't about following the rules obviously. But these guys don't even break them properly. There is a good and a bad way to play out of key. These guys do it the bad way. I think the only reason you say there better than Opeth is because there more eccentric. Being different in & of itself doesn't make them good.
