We still don´t know if this single won´t be heavy. Hageshisa also starts with a high pitched voice of Kyo and he also often mixes normal singing with grawls. As far as I know it also contains a new version of Obscure and a live version of Reiketsu Nariseba.

It sounds like Kyo is going the same path as Hageshisa to by recording vocals that he clearly can't live up to doing them live. Recording multiple vocal tracks to achieve your sound is not good. But don't get me wrong, on recording this single will most definitely be amazing.

Yeah his ear isn't the best, so his higher notes are hit-or-miss but really, he can do a lot more vocally than just about anyone. Unless you can prove otherwise. I'm open to being wrong.

@lovesouptmr Yes, you have to be passionate or you won't go anywhere with it. Good songs take time and effort to wrap up the composition. You need to make sure every progression ties into the next and that the feeling doesn't get lost by any changes in song feel from bridges or fills. There are two ways to go about it though, you can be simple and make a solid song, but it takes a whole lot more to put the complexity in that Kyo does, and that's simply why people praise him so much.

Anyway, it's not hard to mimic someone's vocal stylings, and j-rock is full of Kyo clones, just as there are quite a few guitarists who cop Sugizo's playing style.

Everything that can be done has in some reference or another, now all that's left is to mix it up. Sure maybe some vocalists draw influence from Kyo, and some guitarists from Sugizo... but Sugizo himself has his references. Just as I draw musical influence from Kaoru and Willy Adler, all musicians have other musicians that inspire them...

@codyfra I think there's a fine line between being influenced by an artist and ripping off an artist, and, sadly, the music industry is full of rip offs regardless of what part of the world you're in. Everyone has influences, and most people use those influences to accentuate their own style. Flat out stealing another artist's work and image, however, is unacceptable. Just one example would be the song "Guilt Trip" by Nega. That song is almost note for note a copy of Diru's "Zakuro."

@lovesouptmr Truth is, Dir en grey is one of my favourite bands. Other truth is that I don't think Kyo is an especially good vocalist, especially outside the studio. He has a bad habit of singing outside of his range and all that's going to do is ruin his vocal chords (which he's done already). As for fans, I find blind love for a band pretty annoying. It's especially rampant amongst the j-rock fans who just can't admit that, sometimes, a band writes a mediocre song.

I can say Kyo's live vocals can be a let down, but he has been improving since his surgery. However, for kyo as a vocalist entirely, sure he isn't the best... but if you don't properly evaluate how deep and full his growls are, or how powerful and polished his screeches are, then you aren't really giving him the credit he deserves.

When it comes to singing, Kyo tends to be hit or miss, especially live. I've seen Diru live five times now and Kyo struggles to stay in key when he hits the high notes. Some simple vocal coaching could probably help him out, but he strikes me as someone who wouldn't bother.
