Although they used a PORTUGUESE song (CANÇÃO DO MAR) and singer (DULCE PONTES), the portuguese were falsly portraited in this ficcionated series. It appears that it wasn't an isolated case. Being false is different of being creative.

Lusitanus: I don't think this series has ever claimed to be historically correct. It's a work of historical fiction meant for entertainment - it's not real. If they had made that fictional portuguese king the king of some other country I doubt you'd care at all that a lot of the facts in this show are not true.
