I wonder how he visualizes and creates the initial shapes for each piece, since he practically lays down the overall shape and shadows right away.

Despite that, creating something from nothing is easy (So to speak.) However, creating something by simply putting in random stuff like he did (Blotting it with black, for instance, and then creating something out of it) takes finesse and practice.

Most artists use reference materials, which are usually a photo or... gasp.. other drawings sitting next to the work in progress.

It's not really creating something-from-nothing as much as it is re-envisioning the same ol' things in a new way, and hiding your sources well.

Ah, but it depends on what you're trying to do. I was simply referencing that fact, since most job positions that Vggamegod would probably be applying for require you to create something new - Not simply creating something similar.

But then, I suppose another factor is just how creative one can be.
