  • GERARD BUTLER FROM 300!! FUCK YE IM gona watch this movie no matter what!

  • wow, for once no horned helmets! I already like this film ;)

  • is this film any good

  • Good movie, similar like the 13th worrior with Antonio banderas. I watched it 5 times!!!!!!!!

  • A great great movie.

  • This is the best Beowulf movie, its like 1000000 times better than the one with Angelina

  • I NEVER thought I would see Gerard Butler ride on an Icelandic horse!! Me like! :D

  • This is not Sparta

  • @darkwhitedirewolf yEAH MAN fUCK sparta

  • Great job on the video! Another excellent video of Beowulf and Grendel can be found by just searching for Beowulf Parkour.

  • If anyone has read Beowulf and seen this movie they would know that this is nothing like the Epic Poem. Beowulf is meant to be tough and unbeatable. There was no whatever her name was and the tale never said that Grendel had a son. They also missed the death of Beowulf and the dragon.

  • @mizeri4life108 Oh yes, and Grendel isn't innocent. He is the antagonist because he is supposedly Cain's son. Also, he knows what is wrong and what is right and he decides to choose the wrong.

I could add sooo much more but I don't have the patience.

  • Studying the text as a first year English undergrad student.. looks like a much better adaptation compared to the Jolie one! Shall be watching this v soon!

  • I love this Movie exactly BECAUSE it doesn't have any Special Effects or Computer Animation. It's a raw, earthbound Movie for an epic ancient Tale. In my Opinion this Movie was made 100% perfect for the Tale it represents.

  • Did I just se a kid with a beard?

  • It was honestly a pretty good movie in my opinion. The fact that they portrayed Grendel as a humanoid I thought added something really cool to it. Yes he's supposed to be a troll or whatever, but let's face it; trolls were never real. Neanderthals? They were real. Ancient Celts (who towered over almost anyone else from Europe) were real as well. I think the director did a great job of interpreting it.

  • @ProphetWolf Yeah but Grendel was a creature who was shunned and his race was persecuted by the humans who thought it was them vs nature. There was never a movie that portrayed his "humanity" or emotion.

  • its silly that they speak English. they should speak Icelandic which is also old Norse.

  • was a good movie, it was original, im tired of all that impossibly ridiculous & predictable hollywood backwash

  • WTF? This movies was awesome! I can't believe all the negative comments. I guess some people just don't like good movies? Oh well.

  • at least its acurate unlike the new one

  • Wait, was Grendel in this trailer at all? I haven't seen the movie, sooo, did they turn him into a human?

  • @femalephantomdimes5 , Grendel is a troll in the movie,,,

  • not a bad movie. The script could have been better and the Woman who plays the local wtich(sarah Polley) gives one of the worst acting performances i've ever seen. but other than that its a fine movie

  • Well cool but one problem, Grendel wasn't a man. He was a creature, not human.

  • @WildManDan15 Grendel was a troll in this movie not a human..

  • @ThornyRoseV Well then they didn't do a very good job showing it.

  • This movie was funny. My favorite part is when that blond dwarf looked over at the people.

  • Gerard Butler is so fucking hot! He is so badass!

  • So according to the story Grendel (a giant) and his mother were descendants of Cain. Hmmm well according to another story the daughters of men were found to be fair and the fallen ones took them as wives. And giants were born unto them. These devoured all the toil of men, until men were unable to sustain them. And the giants turned against them in order to devour men and they devoured one another' flesh and drank blood from it.

  • I myself look forward to Neandergrendel.

  • look at 0:41 at this trailer- all dead but look in the movie you see no fight bevor they are found dead

    whats that ??

  • what is this for a shit realfilm ? look the the legend of beowulf movie and not this shit !splitting head from father

a child with hair in his face ? have they no liliputaner in this land ? when the kid use

sword on beginning to take the head of his father- no blood on head or on child, grendel is a normal man and all guysin the house are founding dead they he killed ! you see no fight grendel vs the guys usw ! total shit realmovie !

  • @3000tomas start writing english and dont complain about movies without special effects kid

  • does the movie really suck as much balls as thig trailer :S why is gerad butler in this peice of crap?

  • Man this movie sucked balls.....

  • Best Beowulf movie ever made.

  • Is it me or did anyone else se this movie for the first time in english class at school??

  • Umm grendel is a monster 30 ppl were sleeping not 20

  • ok a 2 year old with a beard? grendel is supposed to be a monster a descendant from cain wtf

  • @michjessy well my friend was born with sideburns

  • Im Agree, Grendel seems to be like a neanderthal or a hybrid, This movie is the one closer to the legend and more real than the other movies, so far, i saw two versions that totally SUCK (one of them is the 3D cast w/A.Jolie) but this one become one of my favoryte movies!!!!

  • this movie has anything to do with the book?

I need to read that thing in old english.....so I want to know if I should get a shot at this and then read the book...

    A reply would be apreciated!

  • @GabrielKore

You probably won't get much out of it in Old E. - only bits and pieces here and there. It's not just Oldfashioned "English", as you know it - eg. a la Shakespeare. It's in Anglo-Saxon - a Germanic tongue, spoken by the migrants who settled and conquered in England during the 5'th and 6'th centuries , which would much become the root of E later. It bares many resemblances to modern Icelandic (which hasn't changed very much), but not to E as you know it (unless you know the links).

  • @Bjowolf2

"which would much later" become the root of E"

And yet 70 % of the words in an everyday conv. in E (non technical etc.) can be traced back to this Germanic language - of which a large part are also shared across the North Sea in Denmark etc. - either mutual or borrowed both ways!

    eg. liv=life, død=dead/death, fader[father]=father, moder[mother]=mother,broder[brother]=brother,

    søster=sister, datter=daughter,søn=son,give,have,tage=take,se,find, hold, syng,gå[go], hus, mand[man*] etc.

  • @GabrielKore

This film seeks to get to the core of the pagan Germanic legend from its roots in Denmark & Sweden, without all the Chr. "garbage" that was added to the poem much later on, when the Anglo Saxon tribes in England had become Christian (7-8th centuries. No-one knows precisely when it was written down. Some even say as late as the 10'th century). I thought it was pretty good, cons. it was made on a tight budget under really harsh weather conditions. Just don't expect fancy CGI etc.;-)

  • @Bjowolf2

So try finding a translated version on the web. There are plenty to choose from - some with lots of explanations & some even with the original AS text alongside so that you can compare the words, and

see which ones you might recognise. But NOT easy!

Some bits and pieces here and there are easier for Danes (+ Swedes+Norwegians) to read - and prob. a lot easier for Icelanders? You see, the AS language and the Norse (Old Scandinavian Viking tongue) were still quite similar at this time.

  • the Dragon Horn goblet is to put your semen cum in, genius.

  • @darkgodnaar I thought it was for your poop shit.

  • Looks rubbish, the animated movie is better.

  • @RhythmPanda hell no this one is way better, way betetr story told, the animation isn't like the story anymore, dragons??, cmon it's about beowulf killing the troll, and beowulf didnt even sleep with grendels mom neither did he stay there

  • @lushikichiariCHAN Yeah but the animated movie game me chills when I watched it at the cinema, I thought it was amazing, the sound of appearance of it was stunning, I just really love it overall, I wouldn't like to see a live action version of it.

  • This story line is plausible. When modern man started to encroach on the earth the Neanderthals were being pushed out. Since they looked entirely different or almost monstrous to the modern humans they were considered monsters. So basically Grendel could have been a Neanderthal.

  • @fffreddie Ahhhhhhhhh.....I think your on to something. I like the way you think. The last Neanderthal. Hmmm...good theory.

  • @MaximvsDread Yes, I'm a genius without any credentials!! LOL

  • @fffreddie

Unfortunately, the story of Beowulf takes place in the 6th century AD at the earliest. The last neanderthal was gone many millenia before that.

  • @resurgam44 It was a real old neanderthal.

  • Svar på denne video ...

Not up in Iceland (Daneland) LOL

Yes, but the writer is just playing with that idea - that some more primitive humans

might have survived at this last outpost of civilsation. It's called poetic license - don't

take it too litterally in any scientific context, please ;-)

It's just "the raw story" without a Christian filter - the arrival of Christianity is only hinted

at via the mad monk who comes to christen these poor unsuspecting hard-to-impress Vikings ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • @fffreddie yeah... except for the fact that grendel is not the only monster in the poem. There's grendel's mom and a dragon.

  • @acmilanboi Grendels mom was neanderthal also. And there are stories of knights fighting dragons.

  • @fffreddie

    Still, interbreeding did occur.

  • @Metalheadyup Still does.

  • One thing i find odd in movie is Sarah Polley character is "accidentaly" raped by Grentel thus making a son that Beowulf in end spares that is kind of conclusion of whole movie I must realy ask how someone "accidentaly" rapes?!

  • i saw it and it was utter rubbish

  • I just saw this the other night. It tells the story of Beowulf stripped of all the mysticism and gives a measure of sympathy for Grendel. While the acting and action are okay, the movie's strongest point is the scenery. It's very beautifully shot and is worth viewing for that alone.

(Be on the look out for Sarah Polley's accent to fade in and out and finally out for good.)

  • great movie

  • Cannot wait to get a copy of this!

  • beowulf ?

    grendel ?

    .50 beowulf ?

    6.5mm grendel ?

alexander arms sure watched this stuff

  • did any one actually see this movie?

  • @kangurya - Yes. I did. Probably a few other people also. Ask around some.

  • did any one actually see this movie?

  • @bardeng

It's been a long time since I read it, but I don't think Beowulf ever explained Grendel or his mother's presence, and I think the more recent novel Grendel hinted that his father was a king, there may have been something about a witch and the time/space dragon thing....Guh, I dunno. I hated Beowulf. Just google it.

  • I read both Grendel and Beowulf and was under the impression that Grendle and his mother were basically retarded bears.

  • @bardeng i meant to say seduced, i think u knew that

  • why must all beowulf movies suck?

  • @bardeng in the orginal tale Grendel's father was the king because he was saduced by the witch. This was a differn't story from the orginal.

  • is this movie out ?

  • @Elcako11 yes

  • good movie

  • Hey does anyone who knows a good site safe where i could listen to this movie, ?!?!? Plzzzzzzzz

  • erm...seeing Butler in a cast i was expecting tons of blood and ownage and manly talk. What i got? Emo tale :'(

  • Grendel was a 20ft tall demonic creature

  • hmm. swedish actors + Gerard Butler... creepy

  • boring movie

  • i didnt even know that they made a live action beowulf.

  • Sarah Polley's accent epic fail. at least try a little.

  • I thought Grendel was a dragon..

  • @kristofferinus Grendel was like a big giant/monster

  • @kristofferinus depends on the interpretation :)

  • Comment removed

  • omFg pieceomeat you are big nooB

  • better than the new one

  • shitty movie!too bad for gerard butler...

  • im reading beowulf in my senior english class and I love it....

  • i hate it cause i have to write an essay thats due tomorrow

  • :D Ooh, Gerard Butler as Beowulf? I need to see this now.

  • Beowulf is designed first and foremost as a visual spectacle of the first degree. Judged in those terms, it is a resounding success... great movie that you can watch at

    EasyMediaClick (dot) com

  • I thank the film makers for their work.

    That includes all involved.

    Even the weather.

  • Interesting!

  • This is a great film, shows a kinda deformed-human type of grendel, real armor used by vikings, clothing, weapons, and especially the small horses the vikings would use at the time. very realistic! 5*s

  • deformed? not at all.

  • Realistic? The movie was shot in iceland, and the story takes place in Denmark, Iceland looks nothing like Denmark.

Also they speak english, they least they could do was to make the movie in some modern scandinvian language

  • it sure is moe realistic than those typical hollywood viking films..

  • Indeed :)

But still there is alot of details and settings you can point out in the movie.

But i totally agree with you, compared to other hollywood viking movies, this one is one of the more realistic.

  • Yeah, no movie nowadays is perfect, they always fail at something, especially accuracy xD lol

  • I think they were probably thinking that movies that make the most money are in English because they happen to spend the most money on films. The biggest earners of all time are mostly all in English...this movie however...I really don't think it would have made much more money in English.

  • You dont make a movie to make money.

If you do that as a director, youre pissing all over your branch.

  • LMAO....I got news for ya...You don't pay actors millions per film and make a movie not to make money. Thanks for the laugh though.

  • Dont talk to me like i am an idiot, i know movies are supposed to make money, but thats not the main thing for making a movie, try ask every director in the branch, i bet almost none of the directors says money. that was my point, dont make youself look like and idiot and play dumb with taking words out of my mouth.

  • Sure they will tell you it's not about the money....but those of us that live in reality know that is bullshit! Why do actors ask for so much money? Why do Directors seek expensive big name actors. Sorry but you are either an idiot or in denial. There might be a few independent directors who are interested in the "art" and not making money....but they are in the minority and most of us have never heard of them. Wake up princess,..it's time to grow up to the real World. lol

  • i like to believe im in denial then xD

Dude seriously i dont think most of the got into the branch because of money, sure theres alot of money in making movies, but i think alot of the directors would keep making movies if it wasnt so well paid.

  • I think that you are simply naive, not an idiot. You are a purist and that is commendable but not very realistic. When James Cameron, George Lucas and Peter Jackson were kids...they wanted to make movies they wanted to watch....I am sure thats true...however, as they grew up they realized that making money is how movies GET made and the fame and fortune trump the art. It's unfortunately in some respects...but its a fact. Make your movies and pick unkowns, you will have art, and no budget.

  • What youre saying is that every job that is well paid is done by some who does it for the money and not the job?

You must realize that beeing realistic is not equel to pessimistic.

Ofc you want some wellpaid actors, cause theyre good actors! ofc you make a billion dollar movie with alot of wellpaid actors, why? because you want to be the best at your subject!

  • lol,...tell me,...How much were Ben Affleck and J- Lo paid to make Gi Gi? The most money doesn't always equal financial success though does it. You can call it what you want but the turh is they all do it for the money. When people go to college, do they do it to increase their earning potential? Yep, even if it means going from $20k to $45k...grow up...there is nothing wrong with earning as much money as you can and if you like what you do...all the better. Thus...English is dominant

  • in Blockbuster films. (back to the original point. But I will tell you what,...you do your film about a boy in Gambia, spoken in Swahili with Dutch subtitles...and tell me...how are you going to pay your actors, set, production costs, marketing and then your own bills? Hell Good luck finding someone to back you financially. But go ahead. Atleast you will live by YOUR priciples and that is to be respected. I'll go and make a Slumdog Millionairesque film in English and I will have two big benefits

  • First....I will be rich and famous. I will have a nice home, be traveling and living it up, and Second...People will WANT to finance MY films and good actors will WANT to be a part of my films (that is IF I was a film maker because I am not) Anyway, I feel like I am explaining that we can make more money by turning grains into Guiness and you are saying....."but can't we just enjoy our Grape Nuts? I am bored, good luck to you though and it's nice to meet a fellow movie enthusiast.

  • I think the reason they are interested in making money is more to do with the fact that a movie that makes money is a sign of a successful film, and a good film. The actualy money they get I am sure isn't of great importance to them, but I am sure they enjoy the payement.

  • The past is a horror of wilderness........

  • THUHS... UHS... HROTHGAR!!!

  • OneCode, lmao.

  • what language will this film be in?

  • First, it's already out.. Second ... you do hear them and see them speaking english .. don't you?

  • you make a point there

  • Wasn't tryin to be a dick or nothin like that.

  • only dicks say they werent trying to be a dick

  • lol alright, whatever wanker

  • it takes 3 to know 1!

  • I haven't seen it yet but I want to. I think I wouldn't really like it better than the animated US- version.=)

    + I like the actors

  • Yeah, so I saw this film last night on TV and I thought it was very much like a parody. It made me laugh, but not because it was funny, but because it was absolutely ridiculous. I read the book and I absolutely love the story of Beowulf. This was disappointing.

  • 0:54 The stones on the top left have a interesting shape.

  • OMG!! You're absolutely right! It looks like a face, right? How did you notice that when the trailer was going so fast? Good catch, and interesting too!

  • I saw that figure appearing quickly, looks like a woman face from tha side view right? =)

  • i am beowulf and this is sparta

  • hahaha

  • @kespec dosnt beat tecnoviking

  • ah, this doesn't look as good as the other Beowulf film

  • I would really like it if they made an actual movie based on the novel Beowulf a New Telling by Robert Nye...But where will they find a small enough man?

  • howabout the guy who played minime

  • One thing that people don't realize is how little they actually know of Norse and Icelandic literature sagas. I've read them. The stories and heroes are centered around mundane, ordinary life. And this version, "Beowulf and Grendel," captivate everything essential of those old Icelandic sagas that people like you are too lazy to go read. You'd rather stay on YouTube and watch '300' blood baths instead of realism in a movie like this one.

  • @riardd yeah but 300 obvioulsy isnt supposed to realistic and even if it was it wouldnt mean it automatically amounts to a good film

  • The Anglo Saxons, Norse peoples constantly upgraded their tales to fit the times, and we, as their legacy of English, have done a great service to them and have modernized the story, humanized the plot, and fleshed out the original poem's one-dimensional characters and plot-lines. The original is classic because it is merely antiquated, but for the story premise, this movie version is far more equitable and credible in its narrative.

  • Is there any where online i can watch this movie?

  • which is closer to the book? this movie or the beowulf movie with animation? i need something to help me study for a test..hehe

  • Comment removed

  • How about you just read the book?

  • Comment removed

  • i did, i tried, i dont get it. you cant just read something and not get it, you need to get it, and i dont so i choose to go with the movie cuz i need a moving picture in my mind (thumbs up for me :))

  • @deadwood223 you sound like my english teacher...

  • I don't really know and also didn't your teacher ever tell you the movie isn't like the book ?

  • yeah, he did but he said only some parts were changed, i need to have the book (poem) in my head soo i KNOW wat the story is about cuz honestly i dont get it. and seeing a moving picture with sounds and an exciting movie will help. cuz he doesnt even explain..the book "poem"...but it doesnt matter anyway cuz i failed the test. *sigh maybe if i had a better english teacher...

  • @Bloo128 None are. Both movies are not very good. Haven't seen the 1999 one though.

  • great movie. far superior to US version

  • K im curious, what's the point of this movies existence? From what Ive gathered its pretty much the other movie only with different atmospheres. Am I wrong? or what here.

  • No, the other (Zemeckis) movie warped the poem more. This has changes to the story as well but the setting screams authenticity.

  • actually beowulf animation was made after you can't hate on this :P

  • gerard butler. :D

  • it was that bad??

  • Thats because Iceland pretty much hasn't changed in 1000 years....Unlike Denmark

  • Do you mean culture or... landskape?

  • cant wait to get this on blu-ray it looks awsome

  • what is it rated?

  • north power

  • Good movie. Better than the American version. Better adaptation, better acting, and just plain better.

  • I would believe it. As soon as I heard of the plot to the American version, I facepalmed. I'm a fan of the original.

  • does it link up to beowolf?

  • so whats the story in this one.
