Good movie, but as a "true" story it was mostly BS. The school was already integrated in '71, and all the other schools they played were already integrated as well in the 60's. The games were all blowouts, including the playoffs, 9 shut outs out of 13. Bertier wasn't injured till after the season was over, and he was a dominating presence on defense - the 1st all American from Alexandria. Julius also made All-American that year, and Ronnie Bass went on to QB at USC.

He is a DE. A DE can't just try to sack the qb cuz on a running play it will leave a hole for the back with the tackle lead blocking. Usually resulting in the MLB(gary) getting pummeled by the tackle.

Gary is complaining about Julius not putting hands on the tight end and letting him just run freely and block him out of the play. Alot of highschool Defensive ends will let the tight ends run freely off the line just to get a sac. Resulting in the tight going out and blocking the outside linebacker.

If you are the captain and you're not playing you're best game, it means that you're a poor leader. It's the attitude of a person that makes him influencial, and therefore reflects his leadership.

The attitude of the other players is not involved here, or else his reply wasn't really good... At least that's my point of view.

This was one of the best scenes from the movie, because it proved how regardless the difference, Gary made Julius see that you can't just use people and expect them to follow in excellence. You always to have to make sure your doing your part in leading the way and others will see your progress and follow bc you are choosing to lead by example. I don't people realize that this movie's time period was in the 70's. It's based on a true story.

@fbgrad07 i know this is a year later but Gary did not make Julius see that. They both opened each others eyes to the point of view from another race. Gary claimed to be the 'captain' but wasn't showing the unbiased leadership skills between both races. Gary knew his white friends wasn't going to block for Rev. His friend said it and he still didn't do anything about it. Noticed when Gary took the initiative and called out his bud for not blocking Julius followed suit with his bud.
