To what are you refering when you suggest I read a book? Churchill was not very generous in his opinion of so many in the English Empire. The chap might have mellowed with time-and drink-over the years, but he was still somewhat racist.

@whiff1962 You only call him a racist because he is white, which is equally racist. If other Indians had conquered all of India and done what the British did they would be sainted. Education, roads, sanitation, unity, stability, democracy, all ignored because the British were white. the world seems to think that only people of the same skin colour ought to rule those who have the same coloured skin, which is racist. The greatest period of development was during colonization.

These so called boons of civilization were far from democratic and fair. However, given the relative lack of resources of many of these colonizing powers, it is not historical accident that these very same European powers would have found it advantageous, and necessary, to secure resources and markets abroad.

@whiff1962 No democratic country begins as a democracy. The American revolution was not democratic or fair yet it resulted in the democratization of the United States, not that that wouldn't have happened anyways. Even British democracy was brought about by wars and strife. And Empires existed long before European ones. the Ottoman Empire invaded Europe many times, and in one seige of Vienna alone 80,000 white slaves were taken prisoner. Even India was run by Mughals before who weren't very nice
