How to tell what produce is Genetically Engineered-Understanding PLU numbers

I have a question that I hope someone can answer.. I have produce from whole foods. Says USDA organic, but some begin with the number 8, others begin with the number 5 and number 4.. They have 5 digits.. What does this mean?

I am a middle class American guy, and I appreciate cheap, abundant, plentiful food supplies, even when irradiated or otherwise processed industrially. However, the way Monsanto Corporation is claiming ownership of seed stocks and harassing our farmers with lawsuits, actual and threatened, is very concerning and outrageous to me. Organic is HOW it is grown:.

On Seeds:

OP variety, or Open Pollinated (true) to the parent plants and you can save the seeds and trust they will "come true".

There are H varieties or Hybrid, these seeds are usually blends of 2 or more varieties to produce a so-call "superior" vegetable.

Then there is GMO, they are the "frankenfoods" because the seeds may contain spliced in genetic material of even differing species like fish & frogs. Or they are pesticide and herbicide "ready".

I am growing most of my own produce(yes mostly heirloom varieties). Quit eating meat from the store, so as to not support animal confinement operations. NOTE; Organic grown, does not necessarily mean the seed is not G.M.O., that was planted, only that chemical fertilizers, and pesticides weren't used.
