On the 12 Houses Arc DeathMask was being controlled by the pope who was the Gemini Saint,Saga. On the Hades Arc we see DeathMask along with Saga and Camu on the way to kill Atena only to find out that they did it for her to get to Hades and also to get her Cloth. Anyway, all Gold Saints are good and if they turn bad the Cloth leaves as it happened to DeathMask.

DM wasn't controlled by Saga lah; in the Anime, it was Shura and this was further emphasized in Episode G.

DM believe in "Power is Might" or something like that, thus choose to follow Evil Saga. And he's also a coward <_<
