  • you got my respect man,

i dont see many ''White" people who could play this at this tempo.

    you really got soul :)

  • OMG YOU GOT SERIOUS SKILL!! :D

  • LOL YOU'RE SO COOL! AND GOOOOD!

  • wow right on!! I like doing the same thing with maple.. not quite as good though lol

  • great job, but I like the original arrangement you posted. you know if you made a different arrangement of the trio movement, you could call it "Max's Rag"

  • I thought: This is good....then, this is very good. Then, the left hand started to pick up, and I thought: This is excellent!

  • FTW

  • You are being artistic. That rocks.

    Fix'd it for ya

  • thank you! he didnt deserve that other nasty comment.

  • way to be jealous.

  • This is such an amazing interpretation.

  • that was great!

  • yeah this is pretty much the win

  • I love this video!!!!!!! It's wonderful!! Ragtimemax, you are the best!!

  • that was fucking nuts =D **gives two claws up**

  • yeah ^^

  • i love it! it sounds so fun :)

  • badass

  • Ooooh this was so great to hear.

    THAT*S intertainment! 5*+++

  • I love the embellishments/improvisations you do in this. it's good to know that Jelly Roll is still with us.

  • Holy crap, I have NEVER heard it played like that before! I love it. Breaks away from the standard. Keep it up dude!

  • Dude you need to publish sheet music to this. I'd so buy it!

  • That's awesome man, that's some serious jamming. I wonder how long this guy practices/what kind of practicing he does

  • Great, man!!!! you got the ragtime!!!!

  • DAYUUUMM dude. That was some absolutely awesome hardcore improvin' shit. My jaw was dropped in amazement from 15 seconds on. That's definately going on the favorites list. Keep it up!

  • that pretty good Jelly Roll Morton

  • What? It's only been 4 days! Patience is a virtue, you know. In response to your query: I play an arpeggiation on an F7+9 chord, then an embellishment on a B-flat minor chord.

  • r u gonna put a more recent version any time soon?

  • and what notes do u play on 1:06 - 1:08 (right hand), i got the rest of the song down except those

  • will you make sheet music?

  • wait, what did u do on :15 - :17?

  • you are very great. The best piano player in the world if you aks me

  • Awesome!!! You put spunk and feeling into your playing...I love the tempo..the style...sadly, some play ragtime as they would play mozart...and a big shout out from Newfoundland!!! I noticed St. John's on your page...I live in Newfoundland currently :)

  • yo this awesome

  • Oh my god. Make sheet music. Or a midi. Right now.

  • This is like the maple leaf rag stomp.

Very nice blend between the St. Louis, jelly roll morton style. Your insights into the performing traditions are amazing, I wish I knew a better way to put it.

  • Love it. Great!

  • Simply awesome...watched it 20 times and still didnt have enough....

  • I love the way you played that trio. I was utterly awe-struck!

  • Great job, RagtimeMax. I loved all of it, except for the left hand in the third section. I would like to know how to come up with these... ways of doing it. I play this song too, quite well, but this is far superior to how my (close to original) sounds. If you have AIM you can add me (Lorgonjotle) or email me or PM. I would really love to learn how to make mine sound like this. Excellent job, and thanks.

  • Amazing.. I'd love to entertain an audience with that. I'm going to start modifying it now. I thought my little timely sustains few extra octaves changed the song enough.. but yours pretty much blew mine out the water.

  • this is awesome, you have great style

  • Nice embellishments man!

  • Wow! The future of ragtime is in good hands. Smoking rendition, buddy.

  • Mon Dieu! It's wonderful! I wish I was that highly gifted!

  • Hey man you're really good !! I'll try to put my version on King porter stomp and this one but I miss some time. Great job throught!!

  • RagtimeMax, Very good! Thank you for sharing your gift with us all. Regards, J.

  • wow in all my years of playing ragtime and other styles simular.Awsome just I was so taken back. And Max is still in High School and I heard he was self taught.? Much respect for this guy, Max will go far !!

  • Very nice, very jazzy.

  • Hey! Whats Your Shadow Doing In The Piano!? jk Great Job.

  • Awesome, I love hearing an alternate version. You really added something to the original!

  • simply excellent.

    Thanks for posting it!

  • it was alright but I like the original the best, but you are an amazing pianist

  • i wish i could play this damn good that would be so nice but i am trying to teach myslef which is definitely not an easy task and i have tried my hand at this song, it is definitely hard.

  • You and I should do a duet of this or something at Sedalia, I saw you and Luke did one at Peoria. I have a few ideas of mine too.

    Love that version!!

    Will

  • We certainly should!! Actually, I beleive Todd Robbins was pitching the idea for a Guiness record-breaking Maple Leaf Rag in Sedalia, with pianists doing their take back-to back on 2 pianos. Either way, a duet would be great!

  • Awesome! You can really hear the Morton influence. Have you ever tried your hand at playing the stride piano repertoire? I'd love to hear what you can do with Carolina Shout or Handful of Keys.

  • Thanks for the comment! I've not dabbled into stride too much, but I do play Carolina Shout. However, I'm reluctant to play it publically, as there are already so many fantastic versions out there that outshine my own, threefold. Also, thanks to everyone else who has commented!

  • wow!!! grate version!! eheh...

    yourrrrr very good!!!!

    sSsSsssciaaooo from italy!

  • Frikine awaesome....You are easily amongst the top 5 ragtime players I've seen on this site!

  • Max, you are just the best. You have so much music in you. The future of the music is in very good hands...your hands.

    Todd

  • You are GOOD! This is such a marvelous take on the piece. Normally I can't abide messing with a classic but YOU ARE GOOD and I have enoyed every minute of it. Am looking for more from you and will check for you CD's!

  • Can't wait to hear you in person in Sedalia; this is great!

  • I love how i can see what your doing!

  • can it be flagged for being to good for youtube? this should be on CD/DVD!!

  • youtube videos are really simple to burn to dvd... download them vixy (google it) and use an AVI-to-DVD program to burn it... this is an awesome performance

  • Glad you like it!

  • I think this is one is even better than your other version of Maple Leaf Rag!

  • I Don't enjoy ! I JUST LOVE IT !

    Peace !

  • Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuw Yeh Babe!

  • Thanks for the kind comments!

  • I love your improv and weaving together on this piece. Not an easy thing to do indeed!!

  • Sometimes you play I tink Jelly Roll Morton is Alive

    You are Great!!

  • Seems that you go deeper and deeper into... Jazz! Great rendition. I'd like to hear your interpretation of some Zez Confrey's or James Scott's rag... Thanks for posting, it's wonderful!

  • Whenever my rollperforator is build you're invited to make a player piano roll of this... ;-)

  • I just finished watching your other video and I'm really impressed! This is good stuff man... I really like the fresh perspective on this piece and how liberally you took it.

    /applause

  • Thanks! Interpreting pieces liberally can often go out-of-control, so as to be tangential, so I'm glad you like this rendition!

  • omg, frickn' amazing!!!

  • Hi, Max. Thanks for the new angle. It is really great to SEE you playing. I really enjoyed watching you get entirely into the work, leg bouncin', and most especially the smile. It's great to see you having fun with this piece. Let us see more of the smiles, okay? :-)

    Good work!

  • Thanks, and will do!

  • Thanks! I'm glad you like the video. I think I may be able to plug my microphone into the camera, so I'll try that next time, to improve the quality!

  • Another masterpiece!! I can see King Porter and Tiger Rag in there. AWESOME!

    WP

  • good cam angle btw

  • Yeah, I just got a new tripod.. makes a world of difference from just sitting the camera at the end of the keys.

  • yeeeeaaaaahhhhh. That my friend was right on the

money. they both go off but this one blew me right away. well done max.
