My theory about 52 is it didn't come from Egypt. I think it came form West African boxing and southern African boxing. One of them I heard called kandeka .

guys dont need to seriously hurt each other in training, but as a serious warrior, these guys are playing too much!spectators(students) that want to learn these systems seriously wont take these videos serious with guys doing moves with smiles on there faces!this shows lack of seriousness!i study many different fight styles in an attempt to balance my war game!i dont like guys teaching me an art while playing @ the same time!this video needs to be modified!i'm sure i'm not alone on this!100
haha. this is Ancora. The guy in white in this vid. i'm by no means a master of capoeira and even lesser of one in 52. but i tell you, this is only the begining. LGD!! UNIDADE!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIGHT!!

If you want to make Capoeria practical you will wind up with 52.
There are habits that a Capoeirista has that a very bad in fighting: 1) overtly flashy moves, 2) very little hand fighting, 3) very little ground skills, 4) most importantly always giving up their backs by spinning.
Please don't tell me how there is a difference betwee Capoeira "play" and Capoeira "fight" -- the play and the fight should be the same.
As Bruce Lee always said, "train the event" - if the event is street, go!
I have personally used capoeira against, ninjitsu, aikido, kali, western boxing, muy thai, MMA, kung fus, taekwondo and Jeet kun do. The bottom line is conditioning focus experience and intuitiveness that win fights not technique alone. Capoeira is from the street and has existed for over 400yrs. It doesnt NEED 52 or any other add on.. we choose 52 because it is in our cultural family and we want it to grow and florish throughout the world like capoeira has.

Steel: I would disagree but what's the point :)
I will say that Capoeira is a very fun art and the best visually.
