  • this kata looks like heian shodan in shotokan karate

  • Yes, if it is Shorinkan, then it belongs to Kobayashi group!

  • But definitely it is Shorin Ryu! I dont know is that Kobayashi or Shobayashi (obviously not Matsubayashi) but it is Shorin ryu! Maybe Shorinkan?

  • Also should add the "Bible" is a very good book. Unfortunately for me it is all in Japanese and I don't speak Japanese :P. My sensei has a copy gifted to him by Ohtsuka himself when Ohtsuka visited Australia and the Dojos of Shihan James Sumerac.

  • Pinan Shodan an original Shurite kata taught to Proffessor Tadahiko Ohtsuka by Shurite Master Sensei Seko Higa who was Sensei Chojun Miyagis favourite and senior student so therefore it doesnt get any better than this nor more original !!.....

and the linage continues to this day and remains true and precise without modification..

  • @southernrocka - Shuri Te Master Seko Higa?

  • I remember this video! I used to watch it when I still took Karate! I miss it so much.

  • thanks god i do kyokushin karate - we are the karate style with most full contact fighting and our kata's arent thtat complicated

  • @zepetido Yes but your full contact fighting does not include strikes to the head. What's the point?

  • There is too much hostility on this form, obviously most of you are not real karate-ka, and if you are Im sure your teacher would be ashamed of you. No this is not a traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu kata but this man is clearly a karate master in which case he may be showing kata that is older than the current system or he could have made his own system. Oh and just a word of advice, never go to Okinawa Island and call karate Japanese, you may come back without a neck!

  • @shogun10 - Maybe you know this by now but Otsuka Sensei is a Goju Ryu Master but he also studied Shorin Ryu. This is recorded under the name of his original art.

  • @shogun10 You are correct in that Master Ohtsuka created his own system. It is called Goju Kensha. southernrocka is also correct about the lineage.

  • im in karate and im posotive this is not kata #1

  • not all karate styles use the same kata

  • ...pardon me but you are quite obviously a fuckwit !!.this IS Suzuki sensei master Otsuka's most senior student/instructor and he is demonstrating the original Pinan form,..this man could chew you up and spit you out his arse sunshine and I think you should take a long look at the way the US and most other countries have destroyed traditional Japanese karate,.they did after all invent it and Suzuki and Otsuka are well respected PROFFESSORS of martial arts in the world today ...UP YOURS MATE !!.

  • So the Asstralian is upset when someone points out some biomechanical errors in a kata? Why is that! I have earned that right with as many years in the arts as you have been alive. Go eat a wallaby! I practice the way my Japanese master taught me by the way!

  • @southernrocka - this is a Pinan and Otsuka is good but the Japanese did not create Karate. It is an Okinawan Art and they are not Japanese. And he learned from Okinawans.

  • No offense, but his posture is not very good, which creates poor balance and even poorer power.

  • The amount of rofl produced from your comment is amazing. I salute you, fully for your completely useless observation.

  • What? Why was it useless?

  • this is not a Goju-ryu kata

  • Pinan Nidan
