i wish you the absolute best, this surgery ruined my life, if you have complications with it, and are concidering having it took down DO IT EARLY before the stommach grows to itself and it cannot be undone without a life threating discetion of the stomach. my gas bloat has caused my small intestine to expand and now i may have to have part of it removed. i can to nothing that i used to enjoy before, the gas bloat is bad enough but if you add liquid you may end up wearing diapers like i do.
I am almost 22 years old, a couple years back i got a hiatal hernia.
I have heart palpitations, a very stiff neck, and jaw problems and weekness.
I really need help, I might be getting this surgery but im scared the complications will outweigh the benifits, can someone please offer me some guidance on wether i should get this done or not?
I had this surgery in Perth< Western Australia, 5 days ago. I have had GORD (in Australia we spell it "oesophagus") all of my 70 years. 40mg of Nexium daily kept the reflux under control, but there was always severe burning of the lower end of my oesophagus and this gave rise to concerns of possible Barret's Oesophagus and cancer. Have got through the clear liquid diet and now on nutricious liquids. I too suffered the high chest pain and now only have local pain from procedure Baz of Perth
Great video man, this gives soon to be patients a great view of what really happens instead of it being explained. My fiance is having this surgery next week and I really hope it helps and she has a speedy recovery. I hope you're feeling better by now:)
@panic1844 they are the nerves that run down the esophagus that cause that OH crap I just stood up to fast feeling. and the OMG there is a needle I'm gonna pass out feeling. Now when ever my blood pressure raises to high I pass out.
to panic1844, how long ago did u have the surgery? how bad are u feeling? I really dont know which way to go on this. I am thinking to do it next year 2011. please any help would be great. I would like anyone to email me on shoot@2u.net.nz regards,
@polaco614 Hi, I got this surgery on 2008, I had it taken down on 2009. I had horrible reflux but the surgey made things worse. I had rediculous bloating and more reflux after the surgery, it did not help at all and made my life more complicated. Since the takedown I've felt better but I still get a nasty bloating and pain, plus they also took my gallbladder out. My advise is to really modify ur diet and avoid all greasy foods...surgery cannot replace what we were born with.
I had this surgery 11/22 and am already noticing a difference. the continuous pain i had in my right side has subsided. Although i am feeling the discomfort from the gas in my left side, chest and soldier -the surgeons forewarned me that would occur. Am patiently following instruction in regards to the diet....this week is clear liquid diet, next week i move up to a liquid diet....probably not the best time to have the surgery done....being that its thanksgiving....but oh well its done!
OK QESTION HAS ANY ONE LOST WAIGHT FROM THIS MY SISTER SAID SHE HAS LOST 20 ALREADY BUT HAS ANY ONE ELSE LOSE FROM IT AND IF SO HOW MUCH!! PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP THANX AND GOD BLESS U ALL
I just had this surgery 48 hours ago. Back home from the hospital and now on a liquid diet. Hoping that my recovery is a speedy one. I have a lot of pain in my left neck shoulder area for some reason. Difficult to swallow but I'm sure this will pass. I'll keep everyone updated.
@pocketaces0115 The pain in your neck is from the Co2 they pump inside your gut to inflate your stomach so the surgeons can see everything. It feels weird but your body absorbs the gas and you will feel better soon. Have someone rub your neck and you can actually hear the gas bubbles pop inside! Crazy!
Glad you posted. You will feel 100% better now that you have had this surgery!
I jjust had this 3 weeks ago. My life is so much better now. I can sleep on my stomach again. I sleep thru the night, because I am not choking on the acid any longer. I recommend that if you are having serious GERD problems that you seek out a good surgeon to fix it. I would ike to thank my Surgeon, Dr. Jason Beaver in Dothan, Alabama (Wiregrass Surgical Associates) for doing a wonderful job. He is great. This was the 2nd operation he has done for me.
THESE PEOPLE ARE BLESSED FROM GOD OR WHATEVER YOU BELIEVE IN !!
THEY HELP HUMANITY WITH THEIR INTELLIGENCE SO MUCH !!! WHILE OTHERS ARE USING INTELLIGENCE TO DESTROY HUMANITY - NUCLEARS MISSILES, BOMBS FOR ONE MAIN REASON MAN'S GREED !!! THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!
I have had the surgery twice my recomendation with GERD the first surgery is amazing but if you happen to tear it again the second surgery is pure hell.
@101earthangel I am in the military and I was working out a year after I had the surgery thinking it would be ok, but nope not anymore now both of my vago vigo nerves are all jacked up.
I have a medium size hiatus hernia and thinking about having the operation. I would love to hear from anyone who have had the operation. please, your comments would mean alot to me my email is shoot@2u.net.nz
Great video and information, i am getting this done in 3 weeks. 15 years of Gerd. 7 years on protonix quit working, switched to Nexium twice a day now thats not working. Barium and several Scopes showed a medium hiatal hernia and a Gaping GE Junction. Tired of the pain and ready for the fix. Several co-workers swear by this surgery and one just had his 2 months ago. I will update after surgery. My Surgeon did not reccomend the esophyx Tif procedure due to my hiatal hernia. Semper Fi
I had this surgery a couple of years ago and it drastically improved my quality of life. I can now drink orange juice, eat spicy food, no more heartburn, better sleep..........If you ever consider this surgery, go for it.
I have ARD (acid reflux disease), but my 40 mg Nexium really helps. We learned briefly about this Nissen fundoplication in my inpatient coding class (ICD-9-CM).
I couldn't watch this stuff b4 my surgery, but now that it's done I'm thankful to see it. It's been a year and I am doing SO well. I feel well and not sick with acid burning me all the time. I take no more medicine-just gas-x now and then to relieve pressure since I don't burp much. One weird side effect is that I can't throw up so make sure you don't drink too much :) Also I can't chew mint gum comfortably but those are the only changes. Relatively minor if u consider what I lived w/ b4.
It has now been 4 weeks since I have had this surgery. The putting to sleep bit is not nice but in my case has been well worth it. I have GERD since I was a young baby, and have been putting up with severe acid reflux since. It was at the stage where I could not eat without being sick, you just have to be careful what you eat after the surgery ie. no solids just sloppy diet for 4-6 weeks, I have tried solid foods bit have been met with severe pain - just be wise, overall am pleased no heartburn
There will be 6 weeks of liquid food... there could be long term complications of not being able to eat solid food again... you will regurgitate solid food, but it won't hurt to do even if it makes your eyes water.
I had this surgery, 9 years ago. i have had nothing but misery since. i wish i could go back in time, before i ever had it. believe me i am miserable and still have daily reflux, plus numerous other problems, assoiated with surgery side effects.
did you start feeling miserable immediately after having the surgery? I mean you weren't feeling a bit better after having it, at least not even for few some months?
I've been diagnosed with GERD, Omeprazole 40 mg twice a day is not really helping. My specialist suggest I should think about the surgery but I don't know too many different opinions! I really appreciate any further comments about your own experience. Thanks
how was recovery from this sergury??? did it cure you?? i am 18 and i am having this sergury and I am terrified because i have such bad GERD . any insight would be helpfull
Were you able to get off any acid blockers, or PPI drugs?
I have a bad hernia and thinking of looking into surgery for it as it is making my life pretty miserable now. Any advice appreciated here. Thanks for sharing your surgery video and explaining it in lay terms.
this was very informing.. my mother is going to have hiatal surgery in 2 weeks and is scared. we were wondering where the actual hernia was in the video? was it that space of skin that needed to be closed tightly around the diaphram? thanks for any help you could give us Denise
the actual hernia wasnt in the video. the doctor didnt record that part or me but i have some pic of the hernia he took for me to see. the surgeon cuts out the hernia and cleans everything up in there... then he closed the diaphram. i am so glad this video helped.
jeez didnt that hurt afterwards??

I orignally took Aciphex, but then the doctor prescribed me Nexium b/c it was newer or something. It really helps.
