There will never be peace. You don't take over a country and bring back a nation that hasn't existed for thousands of years; pushing out a people that have lived there for generations and blame them for not acknowledging Israeli's right to be there. Throw on top of that the fact that Israel expands the border, enlarging it's state, is a provocation for continued violence. The best thing America can do is stop sending weapons to Israel. That won't happen so peace can't be achieved.
"The terrorists murdered a young family, a mother, a father, a boy of 11, a boy of 4, a baby girl of four months. They all had their throats slit,"
This is the sickness that Islam teaches. Mohammed was a pedophile, rapist, mass murderer, terrorist etc. Muslims who follow this man all have the potential of acting like him... Pathetic!
How can you actually believe that Israel (with the US) would break with its 60-year streak of rejectionism of ANY peace agreement involving even just borders or the partial opening of the Gaza supply lines (which apparently work; Hamas didn't fire a single rocket during the 2008 peace treaty, even while Israel refused to follow it) and that it would go so far as offering an agreement of full statehood with similar qualifications and additional items?
8 Israeli killed by the rockets i 5 years , while Israel killed 80 last month alone ....do the math over the last 5 yrs. The soldiers are usuall German, Polish , Russian , killing the indigence people of the land
@tahboobi what about the 90%+ of israeli jews that didn't come from germany? You clearly have no understanding of the demographics or history of Israel.
The "generous offer" at Camp David was a bluff. Nothing is generous about offering a bantustan state without sovereignty, full of israeli settlements, and no real capital in East Jerusalem. Dershowitz is a notorious and pathological liar and anyone informed knows that. The problem here is that Zogby makes a weak appearance.
Put your partisan views aside for a moment and really understand the conflict from a non-partisan view. Read from scholars such as Chomsky, Ilan Pappe (who is an Israeli jew), and Phyllis Bennis (also Jewish) among many others who present a more justifiable explanation to the situation . There is no question that Gaza is the largest concentration camp in the world today, and yes at the hands of Israel. I will leave you with a documentary to search on youtube, search \occupation 101'
@abbirro chumpsky, pappe and bennis are all jew hating bastards, whose only connection with being jews is that their idiot parents had sex and forgot to use a condom
ImTehWord, the truth is a bitter pill to swallow; instead of spilling insults, take a step back and read from other sources. Dershowitz is a poor excuse for a human being. His books are filled with fabrication and plagiarism, he helped in denying a scholar (Norman Finklestein) tenurship because he was a threat to his cause. This is the same guy who defended O.J. Simpson during his notorious murder case. Do you remember that?
......Homes are being demolished, Palestinian villages are being destroyed, and tens of thousands are forced to live under brutal military occupation. All while this is happening, Jewish settlers are continuing to expand the region with permission of the Israeli government, although in direct violation of international law. There is no use arguing the truth my friend, you are only fooling yourself.
The beginning of the conflict is highly debatable. Anyone who says they are certain clearly comes from a partisan view. Open your mind, and consider all of the reasons that led to the present state. Arabs and Jews both have a lot of self blaming to do. However, presently the Palestinian's rights are being striped away at the hands of Israel. Israel is in direct violation of countless UN resolutions, and you cannot argue against this fact.....
funzofunzarian, I don't understand the need to call names, like ignorant. It is a debate, an ongoing debate worthy of discussion from all points of view. You think you are an expert? I have news for you, there are hundreds of experts, historians, authors, politicians who emphatically disagree and agree with your opinions. Don't be so dramatic with your responses. Do your homework and present an argument, but not out of hate....
James Zogby presents a good argument. We must remember that this assault/massacre on Gaza (not a war, look at the stats) started with Israel's brutal and illegal expansion. Forget politics, know that ALL human rights organizations (i.e. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International) who have no politcal incentive have all reached the same conclusion, Israel has commited a war crime, and peace cannot be achieve until there is a full withdrawl of settlements and that the apartheid ends.
@abbirro all the troubles started not "with Israel's brutal and illegal expansion" as you ignorantly and falsely stated but with arab/muslim obsession of killing the jews and wiping israel off the map...LONG LIVE ISRAEL
damn did the trashy jews double team the arab. Duche wits and montgomery burns in the suspenders are about nasty sobs. They are serious mental cases. I cannot believe this. What a joke. The jewish occupation of pal is illegal by international law yet zogby doesn't even bring it up. He's afraid of the jew scum. I've been researching lately and boy o boy do the jews have a history of being dirtbags, all the way back to the ancient times. before internet only msm i thought jews were ok.
Zogby is just embarrassing, I guess that when you don't know what you're talking about (the dispute over the border in gaza? give me a break!) you resort to personal attacks. I suggest he expands his history knowledge.
Professor Dershowitz wins this debate. Zogby as usual dodges all of his questions. History has proven Professor Dershowitz right. The Gaza invasion was a huge success. Rockets have stopped and the Palestinians now realize what will happen if they provoke Israel.
@prasannalopez How many rockets have fallen on Israel since Operation Cast Lead? The answer is about 100. Before castlead Hamas fired over 3,000 rockets on Israeli population centers. I call that success and any sane country would do whatever it takes to protect its citizens. While civilian death is always sad Israeli doens't TARGET civilian palestinians. Hamas TARGETS Israeli citizens and uses palesitinian women and children as human shields.
What the hell was with Zogby's ad homimem attack on Dershowitz? The "defending guilty clients" line was low and had nothing to do with solving the problems between Israel and the Palestinians. Shame on you Mr. Zogby
It wasn't low at all. Essentially Dershowitz is attempting to incessantly justify the actions of Isreal and its violent retaliations towards the Palestinian nationalists. Throughout this whole debate, Alan was rude and interruptive where Zogby remained dignified. He deserved his shot at fundamentally, a lawyer with very little backbone to his hypcocritical perceptions entailing the Arab-Israeli conflict.
@dex216sims unfortunately zogby happens to be correct. his comment may have been nasty, but the fact is that dershowitz has been defending war criminals for years now. if dershowitz was defending al qaeda on larry king, you wouldn't be criticizing the person who called him out on it.
@fromis111 Israel has not been found guilty of war crimes so that is basically a cheap shot just like your friend zogby. You can say it a million times, but that won't make it come true.
@dex216sims He told him he's a great liar, because he just got finished spewing a rendition of Camp David that was a COMPLETE LIE. See for yourself what was on the table at Camp David. Don't listen to windbags, government officials, etc. Read for yourself. See what these liars mean by "statehood" or by "government". They mean South African Apartheid-style cantons and no sovereignty.
It's a fucking slap in the face. Any idiot can call war "peace". Unfortunately, reality is more important.
@dex216sims His comment "defending a guilty client" is completely accurate. Mr. Dershowitz attempts to debate the conflict in a very arrogant defense lawyer like way. Blaming the victim is not a legitimate defense for intentional collective punishment of a peoples. His views are offensive and repulsive, and only take into account the suffering of Israel.
@EternalIntelligence Sure he is "correct"...and all the HR reports (Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, B'TSelem, International RedCross, Doctors without Borders, etc...) that say the opposite are wrong! You should try reading one or two of them, it might help you to form a more enlightened opinion. Newsflash...Dirtbagowitz considers himself a "progressive". He is nothing more than a glorified defense lawyer! An honest defense lawyer is an oxymoron.
@steute2011 To each his own. Dershowitz's arguments are much better and more coherent than Zogbys' who almost seems disinterested. Are the replaying images of Paliwood (dead palestinian babies) mindfucking you?
@fynsr If I were dumb enough to take the word of either side or absorb the propaganda from either side, then I would sound like you. Instead my opinions on this topic have been informed by the many independent HR reports that have been published, which you ought to try reading. These reports were generated by internationally recognized and respected organizations, whom are not associated with either side or have a vested interest in the conflict.
@steute2011 OK there. You're clearly misinformed and are only seeing one side of the story. Go to the Israeli South and see how affected the population there is by the rockets that keep getting lobbed at them. Then, and only then, will you see the whole picture.
And by the way, Western news outlets are very left leaning AND HAVE A VESTED LIBERAL INTEREST IN SHOWING ISRAEL AS THE BAD GUY.
@fynsr I made no mention of the Western media, but rather the reports generated by nonpartisan Human Rights organizations, which you have obviously not read or disregarded since they don't suit your narrative. These reports also acknowledge the war crimes of Hamas and the suffering of Israelis, even though Israel refused to cooperate. Israel has bipartisan support in American political and media circles, but just out of curiosity...what would be the "liberal" medias "vested" interest?
@fynsr I do not absolve Hamas and the other extremists Palestinian elements from any wrong doing. In fact I deplore them just the same. I fully understand the need for the Israeli government to protect it's citizens, but object to answering terrorism with more terrorism. I also object to the occupation, illegal settlements and oppression of the Palestinian people.
Dershowitz is a liar, and all this love for him is nauseating. He has gone on rampages, trying to restrict freedom of speech by working to not have books published simply because they make true claims about the situation between Israel and Palestine. Unfortunately, this debate wasn't nearly long enough to have the truth come out. If you watch his debate against Chomsky, he actually admits that what happened in Gaza was wrong! He is the ultimate flip-flopper! He cannot be trusted!
Not many love Dersowitz. Just Zionists and pro Israel Neocons. A Zionist controlled media has made him a character for the audience. Most people see him as an irritating asshole buffoon.
Not only did Arafat walk away. He returned to Gaza and said he stood up to Bush, he stood up to Clinton, he stood up to Ehud Barack and that the Palastinians will never compromise until they have Haifa, until the have Jaffa, until the the entire land is returned. Now who really wants peace?
@dmlauffer exactly, there will be no peace until the palestinians want their own state more than they want to destroy the jewish state. There will be no peace until the arabs love their children more than they hate the jews.
@dmlauffer the israeli offert in camp david was a bad joke although they try to present it otherwise. also the zionist translations are usually not reliable. and which israeli parties support a 2 state solution? the plo does and even hamas could support an agreement which equates a recognition. who wants peace?
@dmlauffer Do you know what the agreement on the table was? Or do you just listen to people like Dershowitz, who say "it was good!" "it was good!" "don't ask questions!"?
What Israel and Clinton proposed was a plan to cantonize the (remaining) Palestinian lands, and to give them limited access to resources, freedom of movement, and political governance. As well as no sovereignty, not to mention military power.
Any sane, self-respecting person would walk away! I wouldn't want a new South Africa..
@aewester Nice try but that's an old talking point. What was offered at camp David was almost 1967 borders. It was 98% of what the PA insisted they wanted for many years. Arafat turned down the deal and went back to Gaza and bragged about it. He rallied around a crowd chanting that they will never compromise until they have Jaffa and Haifa and the entire land. This is on video. These are cold hard facts. South Africa? give me a break. Just visit Israel. You will change your tone.
First of all, no it was not 98% of the land. Where did you get that number?
Secondly, the West Bank would have been carved into untraversable sections by a combination of Jewish-only colonial settlements, outposts, and access roads
Third, NONE of the refugees would be allowed to return to their homes. I know you probably think this is a ridiculous criticism, but consider that over 3/4 the population of Gaza are refugees, mostly in camps. Almost 5 million total.
@aewester 100% of Gaza and 94% of the West Bank. That amounts to about 98% of the territory they claim. Jerusalem is not included. Second Gaza and the West bank were going to be connected by a new highway (paid for by Israeli taxpayers). All the officials present disputed the claim that it would cut networks between Gaza and the West Bank. That's complete rubbish. But what really just says it all are Arafat's own words that he will not stop until they have tel aviv, haifa and the entire land.
@dmlauffer I think youre simply repeating the amount of each area that isn't occupied by illegal settlements (housing more than 300,000 illegal settlers; >12% of the entire West Bank's population), rather than what respectable people have reported was the actual offer on the table.
Also, even though the offer was actually closer to 80% than 100%, if it WERE 94% of the WB and 100% of Gaza (which it was not), the total would be JUST over 94% of the total land. Your lies contain independent lies?
@aewester , quite true. The sticking point is the right of return not the other points. If the Israelis agree to allow the Palestinians to return home, that would spell disaster for the Israeli statehood.
@dmlauffer By the way, the "generous offer" would not only permanently cut off Gaza and the West Bank from each other, and the West Bank from the 4 or more pieces (cantons) of itself, but it would completely cut off Gaza and the WB from its neighbors (Egypt and Jordan respectively) across its EXTERIOR borders. This would be done, again, through military and civilian infrastructure that is accessible and traversable by Jewish people only
Acceptable to any self-respecting population or leader? No.
@aewester Oh yeah and they were offered billions in reparations too. look, I don't want to get into an argument here but you seem like a smart enough person. Do some research and be objective. Know who the key players are and their backgrounds and understand what the lives of ordinary Israeli and Palestinians are like. I lived about a half hour outside of Gaza in an Israeli town at the time. Many of my Arab friends at the time were very upset they didn't get to see real progress happen.
@dmlauffer How can you possibly say, and believe yourself, that Israel made Palestinians a "generous offer" after the record shows CONSTANT Israeli/US denial of a settlement near the '67 borders? ..via the U.N., or in the peace treaties that have been sitting on the table either actually or tentatively, CONSTANTLY, by Hamas as well as the Arab League? Israel could have peace tomorrow if it accepted such an agreement (or much less of one! - like the agreement w/ Hamas that Israel violated in '08)
Zogby was extremely evasive in his responses and did not provide real facts on the ground, plus the extra cheap shot at Dershowitz was totally unjustified and irrelevant. Dershowitz kept his cool and didn't lower himself to that level of taking cheap shots at Zogby, he kept on topic and made some great points with what to back it up, he didn't just spew a bunch of rhetoric that had no basis in fact. LISTEN TO REASON PEOPLE PLEASE
It seems the more the jews are blessed, the greater we are cursed. After 2000 years, this should be cause for a reevaluation of jews. To hell with em.
Stop the rockets that have killed 28 Jews in 8 years, by blockaiding a population of 100's of thousands and bombing the civilian population with phosphorous bombs.
'palestine' was virtually unihabited a 150 years ago, but the jews turned the desert fertile, and then the muslims (the so called palestinians, who are really jordanians) claimed the land as thier own once the jews had put in all the work? The Jews didnt conquer the land, it was given to them by the british and the ISLAMIC TURKS because the land was EMPTY! then when the lands economy grew, muslims emigrated looking for jobs (sound familar?) and claimed the land as thier own
"'palestine' was virtually unihabited a 150 years ago," sparsely populated. "the jews turned the desert fertile" yep. the arabs built nothing. "then the muslims (the so called palestinians, who are really jordanians) claimed the land as thier own once the jews had put in all the work" arabs/arabic speakers claimed it as their land after jews built it up.. immigrating to areas jews built up.
"it was given to them by the british and the ISLAMIC TURKS because the land was EMPTY! " not by the turks. The turks lost it. The arabs ruled nothing and had faught the turks in the ottoman empire. The British gave the arabs lots of countries.. they just wanted more and the jews to have none. There were many ethnic groups in the ottoman empire but no such thing as "palestinians".Netanyahu's book "A place among the nations - Israel and the world" is very good. he mentions some good history
Dershowitz has been brazenly lying since at least as far back as 1973. In his 1973 exchange with Noam Chomsky in the pages of the Boston Globe, he transparently falsifies a court decision, as is amply to clear to anyone who reads the correspondence: tinyurl daht "kahm" slash dersh02 (use common sense to construe the URL -- YouTube forbids Web addresses).
What the jews represent is the evil and wickedness of an antichrist nature in the world. They are perpetually engaged in damage control from generation to generation, if they are not being purged en masse from an entire country.
He defended OJ's murder case and just happened to get an insane criminal away from charges, he's a fraud and the reality is far from a cheap shot. If anything it was a dose of truth
It was a cheap shot. As much as OJ had got away with it, it was the jury that did not convict. Why? Because the police's evidence was unreliable and in part fabricated. Dersh had nothing to do with falsifying the evidence . Racism seems to have been a police motive. The whole trial was a disgrace. As to defending the "guilty": In the US anyone charged is innocent until proven guilty. It was a cheap shot since the comment was an ad hominem.
Funny how people are to quick to jump on the bandwagon and wage war when their country is attacked.
What the hell do you expect Israel to do when under fire?
US went to war with two country after a single attack. Imagine multiple attacks over the course of many year, although with much less casualties.
When your country in under attack, it has a profound effect on the consciousness of the public. All governments reflect their public, unless you live in a fascist or communist country.
What other things an anti - Israel, that also hates the jews must think of, is that if you read Mein Kampf, you also get Hitlers ideas on evolution, and that
that the german race is the master - race.
I cant help but wonder how he would consider the palestinians.
Stealing palestinian land, ethnically cleansing the land and transfering immigrants from Belarus into newly built colonial settlements is NOT FIGHTING TERRORISM. It is against international law and punishable for any country that isnt backed by the US. The hypocrisy of this stinks
lol at anti Israel posters QUOTING ADOLPH HITLER, but of course anti-Israle speech doesnt equal antisemitism.....
Ya, of course.
Israel doesnt have to live with an alien hostile population of ex migrant workers lobbing missiles at its beautiful people/cities, thy have the right to REMOVE THE CANCER.
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord."
Thank you so much for quoting mein kampf, lest anyone forget about this wonderful ode to genocide and anti-semitism. Do you keep a copy at home? Idiot.
Australian Channel 7 was invited to a jewish community dinner event where the Israeli Ambassador announced that Gaza was just the warm up for a bigger mission, a nuclear showdown with iran, i would believe it was a practice session since Israel used its Air, Land and Naval might to attack Gaza, they could've occupied it using garden hoses, well, maybe not but you dont use a truck to deliver a letter unless you're learning how to drive. I wish Obama would do something before WW3 starts
haha I love the way z-dawg keeps trying to evade the 'what would you do question' - anyone with any understanding of rhetoric sees that he's having a tough time saying he'd do the same.
How is stopping the attacks going to prevent Hamas from lobbing rockets at Israeli civilian targets?
Of course the law should work for both sides, but purposeful attacks on civilians are out of line. "I would stop by abiding by international law" doesn't work - it has to defend itself.
You start with the premise that Palestinians will attack Israel regardless of what Israel does. I don't think that's correct. Why doesn't Israel agree to abide by international law and see what happens? Seems simple to me. Give it a try. They can always go back to their old system of fencing off the Palestinians and seizing their property if it doesn't work.
as for the premise, I don't make a Premise about Palestinians. I make a premise about Hamas - and there's been no other precedent set. Let's not forget their charter - their desire to destroy Israel is not conditional on Israeli acts.
Well, they pulled out of Gaza, invested money in it, continuously supported it with supplies such as water and fuel. I consider that 'regardless of what Israel does.'
As for abiding by international law - why was there no outcry about Hamas rockets being shot at Israel for several years? What about the horrible human rights abuses that Hamas had committed?
Had this been any other 1st world country responding to such attacks, Gaza wouldn't have been on the map anymore.
There are 8,000 Israeli SETTLERS in Gaza who own and control 20 % of the Gaza land, how the hell does Israel expect there to be peace if it supports this blatant racism and injustice ?
Then Israel locked the gates of Gaza and threw away the key. Israel completely controls the air space over Gaza, the ocean beside Gaza, and every single entrance and exit of Gaza. They turn a blind eye to the tunnels until they need an excuse to attack because Gaza may be bringing weapons through.
Wait a second - it also supplies Gaza with power, food, and other resources. They don't turn a blind eye to the tunnels. They've turned a blind eye to the rockets that have been coming down for the past few years, and left the people in Gaza to rule themselves - at which point Hamas, regrettably, came in. It's blatantly clear that they didn't attack them for the tunnels.
"It's blatantly clear that they did'nt attack them for the tunnels," where do you get your information from? your ass! mark regev spokesman for ehud olmert clearly stated that hamas did not fire any rockets during the ceasefire and the operation in gaza started because israel thought ham as was building tunnels to kidnap soldiers. Again, please state where you get your information from?
I'd post the link but youtube is worried about spam.
Google 'israeli official explains gaza attacks' - your homeboy mark regev specifically explains it's due to rocket fire. There's a transcript there where you can read his exact words.
Of course mark regev said it then but you see that was before he was caught out lying. Just youtube the headline "israel admits no hamas rockets were fired during ceasefire." Btw, are you one of these zionists who likes to talk tough on the computer?
o hai! that's a real great story, but you're confused champ - israel didn't start its attack till much later. hamas got caught out, isreal destroyed the tunnel they were digging towards it, and hamas started to launch rockets. after enough of these hit, israel mounted an attack.
btw are you a vagina who likes to be a vagina on the computer?
you take my water, burn my olive trees, destroy my house, take my job, steal my land, imprison my father, kill my mother, bomb my country, starve us all, humiliate us all, but I am to blame: I shot a rocket back
whinge whinge whinge. when all you can say is 'aaaahhhhh stfu u dkcheadl lolz plstine 4teh winn11111!!! ur teh gay!!!11' you look like a dumb whore. yeah dawg, shut the fuck up dawg, palestine dawg. how about my cock in your mouth.
wtf kind of answer did you expect for a retarded comment like that. I'm actually keen to have a discussion, but seriously, you sound retarded.
Are you KIDDING me? You think Israel legitimately withdrew from Gaza?! Israel is punishing the people of Gaza every single day.
According to your logic, someone who beats up a smaller, weaker individual and lands them in a hospital bed, but then limits them to receiving a piece of bread, a little water, and a few hours of heat and electricity per day is being GENEROUS.
it is both costly and useless to punish the 'people of gaza'. Israel isn't interested in that. What it is interested in doing is changing the regime, because hamas are a bunch of terrorist lunatics. propagandist my ass.
In Dershowitz's eyes, Israel is always correct - they are a perfect state that does nothing wrong.
I thought this Zogby character was truthful and made the better argument. Both sides are the problem, and unfortunately the civilians are caught in the middle of it.
The Palestinian civilians are getting the worst of it.
that's slander and completely untrue. Dershowitz is extremely opposed to the settlements, was extremely opposed to the occupation, and has been very verbal in opposition to many Israeli government policies.
Armchair Generals. Neither of these men have rockets falling on their homes. The Israelis have to live side-by-side with bloodthirsty terrorists and anti-semitic journalists. Bush is a solid Christian who supports Israel's right to defend itself. G-d bless outgoing President Bush.
not true. he understands the conflict very well. he wants two states but he says that israel has the right to defend itself and arafat and hamas have made things worse for the palestinians. this is true
not at all. He's very critical of the israeli government on a lot of issues, and he's one of the few that calls it down the line, unlike a lot of people, who often display the conflict as one-sided.
uh, what? Since when did he express support, or even condone, torture in the case of Arabs? I don't think he has any biases when it comes to torture - he's against it, and favours torture to be the exception, rather than the rule (the rule, incidentally, is in the case of the CIA, and he opposed this). What does fingers under fingernails have anything to do with it?
When did he say anything about wanting villages bulldozed if an inhabitant attacks israel?
[if terrorists found] "The residents would be given 24 hours to leave and then Israeli troops will come in and bulldoze the buildings. The order will already have been given in advance of the terrorist attacks and there will be no discretion. The point is to make the automatic destruction of the village the fault of the Palestinian terrorists..."
This is with regards to terrorists attacking from civilian locations, such as schools and people's houses, right?
The people shouldn't let Hamas attack Israel from their houses - it's the regime that's in charge, that's syphoning off aid and ensuring their impoverished condition persists. Hamas is to blame.
As for the anti-semitic thing- you must admit that Israel is held to a higher standard than others - he is saying the only explanation for this, in reality, is anti-semitism.
"Any reason why you use needles under the fingernails as your torture method of choice?"
"I wanted to come up with a tactic that can't possibly cause permanent physical harm but is excruciatingly painful...different kinds of nonlethal torture might be more effective... drilling the tooth might be better than some. But the point I wanted to make is that torture is not being used as a way of producing death. It's been used as a way of simply causing excruciating pain."
See, in this case he's specifically referring to an emergency - it's not that he's supporting torture in general, he's specifically saying he supports it as an exception, in a ticking bomb scenario. He says it shouldn't be allowed, and should only be permissible if authorized by the highest authority, in which case there would be transparency. It's facetious to frame it as his lashing out at Arabs.
do Americans know their country sends Israel over 30 million dollars each day in aid? do they know Israel occupies palestine and calls everyone a terrorist so they could justify attacking them? do you ignorant people know that HAMAS are firing rockets on land that had been occupied by Israel? do you know Israel built settlements on those occupied lands? do you know that CNN, Bloomberg, Fox and many others are jewish owned and will only ever be biased? if you didnt know that, now you do :)
I'd like to see someone invade your home, build a house in your backyard, a big wall around it, and call you a terrorist if you resisted him.. if you think its fair then I will turn Jewish and move to Israel
In the words of Dersowitz when asked by an interviewer:
"what is counterterrorism and what isn't? Many groups could argue that another group is using terror against them."
Dersowitz:
"Of course, and al-Qaida thinks that Americans are terrorists. YOU CAN ALWAYS CALL YOUR ENEMY A TERRORIST" (emphasis mine)
It seems Dersowitz knows that the designation of "terrorist" depends on what side you're on. Israeli assassins and bombers are "freedom fighters" Palestinian resisters are 'terrorists"
He is filled with hate. He won't even let up. As for Israel, you don't murder 900 people and claim it to be self-defense. It's a massacre and finally the world's eyes are open to the evil Israeli Govt. Free Palestine!
why is it that Israel "owes" Gaza to open its borders to it? Any sovereign country can choose how to handle borders freely. Why should Israel be held to different standards? I would also point out that Egypt has sealed its border with Gaza...
when will dershowitz and his elk and people in our whorish media learn to talk like civilized human beings when it comes to this issue? i never understand this righteous tone in the voice that just does not comport with the immoral standing they take
what is wrong with you the word starngle has already been used so many times by im cause he has nothing bt metaphors again the poverty has been caused by themselves instead of sing any money to help poverty they buy rockets and crap and pt all their money into the cause and yasser arafat stole money for years and his wife ended up with almost 7 billion dollars this discussion I will rocket your town with on average 2.5 thosand rockets a year then say different am yisrael chai
Wrong on both counts (that I'm an asshole -_- and that the territories are illegally held). Resolution 242 says 'withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict.' It does not require withdrawal from 'all (or the) territories' It was an intentional omission engineered by the U.S. for the retention of territories to assure secure boundaries (also a requirement of the resolution). Since the offer of withdrawal was rejected, Israel has more than fulfilled it.
it's funny how some people ACTUALLY think Americans & Israelis would somehow fight an enemy in open field man to man in the face of such overwhelming odds when their land is being attacked. that anybody who had sense did this in history unless they were just plain stupid is a figment of their imagination and the product of watching too many ridiculous fake war movies. that they would also just sit there & sing, "kumbaya", when their homes were being taken by others is also just as ridiculous.
by the way, read Norman Finkelstein's "Beyond Chutzpah"...a JEW with a conscience...if you want to tell me this crap that Jews do not use the holocaust to justify all that it has done against the Palestinians.
wow Zogby is a dirty manipulating liar
unbelievable how Alan can tolerate him lying to his face.
respect to Dershowits

There will never be peace. You don't take over a country and bring back a nation that hasn't existed for thousands of years; pushing out a people that have lived there for generations and blame them for not acknowledging Israeli's right to be there. Throw on top of that the fact that Israel expands the border, enlarging it's state, is a provocation for continued violence. The best thing America can do is stop sending weapons to Israel. This is the sickness that Islam teaches. Mohammed was a pedophile, rapist, mass murderer, terrorist etc. Muslims who follow this man all have the potential of acting like him... Pathetic!

The Nazis didn't loose. They relocated and became the CIA.
You know about 'Operation Paperclip' etc.
Zionists personified the 2nd World War with their puppet Hitler..
Zionists are the Nazis.
Just like Freemasons are the Knight Templars.
Check out Vigilantcitizen com and the Rockefeller Center etc.
Now, try to imagine how it's like being a Palestinian, living exactly where Yeshua lived 2000 years ago. I can not.

I think YOU need to re-check the record.

Read from scholars such as Chomsky, Ilan Pappe (who is an Israeli jew), and Phyllis Bennis (also Jewish) among many others who present a more justifiable explanation to the situation .

Do your homework and present an argument, but not out of hate....
abbirro 1 year ago
James Zogby presents a good argument. We must remember that this assault/massacre on Gaza (not a war, look at the stats) started with Israel's brutal and illegal expansion. Forget politics, know that ALL human rights organizations (i.e. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International) who have no politcal incentive have all reached the same conclusion, Israel has commited a war crime, and peace cannot be achieve until there is a full withdrawl of settlements and that the apartheid ends.

What the hell was with Zogby's ad homimem attack on Dershowitz? The "defending guilty clients" line was low and had nothing to do with solving the problems between Israel and the Palestinians. Shame on you Mr. Zogby
dex216sims 2 years ago 6
It wasn't low at all. Essentially Dershowitz is attempting to incessantly justify the actions of Isreal and its violent retaliations towards the Palestinian nationalists. Throughout this whole debate, Alan was rude and interruptive where Zogby remained dignified. He deserved his shot at fundamentally, a lawyer with very little backbone to his hypcocritical perceptions entailing the Arab-Israeli conflict.

aewester 1 year ago
@dex216sims His comment "defending a guilty client" is completely accurate. Mr. Dershowitz attempts to debate the conflict in a very arrogant defense lawyer like way. @fynsr If I were dumb enough to take the word of either side or absorb the propaganda from either side, then I would sound like you. These reports were generated by internationally recognized and respected organizations, whom are not associated with either side or have a vested interest in the conflict.
steute2011 1 month ago
@steute2011 OK there. You're clearly misinformed and are only seeing one side of the story. Go to the Israeli South and see how affected the population there is by the rockets that keep getting lobbed at them. Then, and only then, will you see the whole picture.
And by the way, Western news outlets are very left leaning AND HAVE A VESTED LIBERAL INTEREST IN SHOWING ISRAEL AS THE BAD GUY.
fynsr 1 month ago
@fynsr I made no mention of the Western media, but rather the reports generated by nonpartisan Human Rights organizations, which you have obviously not read or disregarded since they don't suit your narrative. These reports also acknowledge the war crimes of Hamas and the suffering of Israelis, even though Israel refused to cooperate. Israel has bipartisan support in American political and media circles, but just out of curiosity...what would be the "liberal" medias "vested" interest?
steute2011 1 month ago
@fynsr I do not absolve Hamas and the other extremists Palestinian elements from any wrong doing. In fact I deplore them just the same. I fully understand the need for the Israeli government to protect it's citizens, but object to answering terrorism with more terrorism. I also object to the occupation, illegal settlements and oppression of the Palestinian people.

Dershowitz is a liar, and all this love for him is nauseating. He has gone on rampages, trying to restrict freedom of speech by working to not have books published simply because they make true claims about the situation between Israel and Palestine. dmlauffer 2 years ago 9
@dmlauffer exactly, there will be no peace until the palestinians want their own state more than they want to destroy the jewish state. There will be no peace until the arabs love their children more than they hate the jews.
TheJordandelphonic 1 year ago
@dmlauffer the israeli offert in camp david was a bad joke although they try to present it otherwise. also the zionist translations are usually not reliable. and which israeli parties support a 2 state solution? the plo does and even hamas could support an agreement which equates a recognition. who wants peace?
zobielamouche1 1 year ago
@dmlauffer Do you know what the agreement on the table was? Or do you just listen to people like Dershowitz, who say "it was good!" "it was good!" "don't ask questions!"?
What Israel and Clinton proposed was a plan to cantonize the (remaining) Palestinian lands, and to give them limited access to resources, freedom of movement, and political governance. As well as no sovereignty, not to mention military power.
Any sane, self-respecting person would walk away! I wouldn't want a new South Africa..
aewester 1 year ago
@aewester Nice try but that's an old talking point. What was offered at camp David was almost 1967 borders. It was 98% of what the PA insisted they wanted for many years. Arafat turned down the deal and went back to Gaza and bragged about it. He rallied around a crowd chanting that they will never compromise until they have Jaffa and Haifa and the entire land. This is on video. These are cold hard facts. South Africa? give me a break. Just visit Israel. You will change your tone.
dmlauffer 1 year ago
First of all, no it was not 98% of the land. Where did you get that number?
Secondly, the West Bank would have been carved into untraversable sections by a combination of Jewish-only colonial settlements, outposts, and access roads
Third, NONE of the refugees would be allowed to return to their homes. I know you probably think this is a ridiculous criticism, but consider that over 3/4 the population of Gaza are refugees, mostly in camps. Almost 5 million total.
Fourth, no East Jerusalem capital!
aewester 11 months ago
@aewester 100% of Gaza and 94% of the West Bank. That amounts to about 98% of the territory they claim. Jerusalem is not included. Second Gaza and the West bank were going to be connected by a new highway (paid for by Israeli taxpayers). All the officials present disputed the claim that it would cut networks between Gaza and the West Bank. That's complete rubbish. But what really just says it all are Arafat's own words that he will not stop until they have tel aviv, haifa and the entire land.
dmlauffer 11 months ago
@dmlauffer I think youre simply repeating the amount of each area that isn't occupied by illegal settlements (housing more than 300,000 illegal settlers; >12% of the entire West Bank's population), rather than what respectable people have reported was the actual offer on the table.
Also, even though the offer was actually closer to 80% than 100%, if it WERE 94% of the WB and 100% of Gaza (which it was not), the total would be JUST over 94% of the total land. Your lies contain independent lies?
aewester 11 months ago
@aewester , quite true. The sticking point is the right of return not the other points. If the Israelis agree to allow the Palestinians to return home, that would spell disaster for the Israeli statehood.
freenational 9 months ago
@dmlauffer By the way, the "generous offer" would not only permanently cut off Gaza and the West Bank from each other, and the West Bank from the 4 or more pieces (cantons) of itself, but it would completely cut off Gaza and the WB from its neighbors (Egypt and Jordan respectively) across its EXTERIOR borders. This would be done, again, through military and civilian infrastructure that is accessible and traversable by Jewish people only
Acceptable to any self-respecting population or leader? No.
aewester 11 months ago
@aewester Oh yeah and they were offered billions in reparations too. look, I don't want to get into an argument here but you seem like a smart enough person. Do some research and be objective. Know who the key players are and their backgrounds and understand what the lives of ordinary Israeli and Palestinians are like. I lived about a half hour outside of Gaza in an Israeli town at the time. Many of my Arab friends at the time were very upset they didn't get to see real progress happen.
dmlauffer 11 months ago
@dmlauffer How can you possibly say, and believe yourself, that Israel made Palestinians a "generous offer" after the record shows CONSTANT Israeli/US denial of a settlement near the '67 borders? ..via the U.N., or in the peace treaties that have been sitting on the table either actually or tentatively, CONSTANTLY, by Hamas as well as the Arab League? Israel could have peace tomorrow if it accepted such an agreement (or much less of one! - like the agreement w/ Hamas that Israel violated in '08)
aewester 11 months ago
@dmlauffer , this is because Arafat lost faith in the sincerity of the Israelis.

Zogby was extremely evasive in his responses and did not provide real facts on the ground, plus the extra cheap shot at Dershowitz was totally unjustified and irrelevant. I don't know why Zogby didn't say:
"If I was Israel I'd stop the attacks by agreeing to abide by international law."
Attacks would stop. Believe me. It hasn't been tried. Why not?
Dersowitz points out that its Israel's right to defend itself. True. But Palestine also has the legal right to resist a foreign occupying army.
The law should work for both sides.
badgeless 3 years ago
How is stopping the attacks going to prevent Hamas from lobbing rockets at Israeli civilian targets?
Of course the law should work for both sides, but purposeful attacks on civilians are out of line. "I would stop by abiding by international law" doesn't work - it has to defend itself.
knoathasaurus 3 years ago
You start with the premise that Palestinians will attack Israel regardless of what Israel does. I don't think that's correct. Why doesn't Israel agree to abide by international law and see what happens? Seems simple to me. Give it a try. They can always go back to their old system of fencing off the Palestinians and seizing their property if it doesn't work.
badgeless 3 years ago
as for the premise, I don't make a Premise about Palestinians.

Doesn't sound like a withdrawal to me.
badgeless 3 years ago
Wait a second - it also supplies Gaza with power, food, and other resources. They don't turn a blind eye to the tunnels. They've turned a blind eye to the rockets that have been coming down for the past few years, and left the people in Gaza to rule themselves - at which point Hamas, regrettably, came in. It's blatantly clear that they didn't attack them for the tunnels.
Sounds like a withdrawal to me.
knoathasaurus 3 years ago
"It's blatantly clear that they did'nt attack them for the tunnels," where do you get your information from? your ass! mark regev spokesman for ehud olmert clearly stated that hamas did not fire any rockets during the ceasefire and the operation in gaza started because israel thought ham as was building tunnels to kidnap soldiers. Again, please state where you get your information from?
doire7 2 years ago
dear shitcunt
I'd post the link but youtube is worried about spam.
Google 'israeli official explains gaza attacks' - your homeboy mark regev specifically explains it's due to rocket fire. There's a transcript there where you can read his exact words.
You little whiny bitch.
knoathasaurus 2 years ago
Of course mark regev said it then but you see that was before he was caught out lying. Just youtube the headline "israel admits no hamas rockets were fired during ceasefire." Btw, are you one of these zionists who likes to talk tough on the computer?
doire7 2 years ago
o hai! that's a real great story, but you're confused champ - israel didn't start its attack till much later. hamas got caught out, isreal destroyed the tunnel they were digging towards it, and hamas started to launch rockets. after enough of these hit, israel mounted an attack.
btw are you a vagina who likes to be a vagina on the computer?
knoathasaurus 2 years ago
Are you truly not aware of the fact that Israel's killing of 6 fighters is what broke the ceasefire??

you take my water, burn my olive trees, destroy my house, take my job, steal my land, imprison my father, kill my mother, bomb my country, starve us all, humiliate us all, but I am to blame: I shot a rocket back
fuck you shit cunt.

100% aware, - they were killed because they were digging a tunnel towards israel.

wtf kind of answer did you expect for a retarded comment like that. I'm actually keen to have a discussion, but seriously, you sound retarded.
knoathasaurus 2 years ago
Are you KIDDING me? You think Israel legitimately withdrew from Gaza?! Israel is punishing the people of Gaza every single day.
According to your logic, someone who beats up a smaller, weaker individual and lands them in a hospital bed, but then limits them to receiving a piece of bread, a little water, and a few hours of heat and electricity per day is being GENEROUS.
You are nothing but a propagandist.
aewester 2 years ago
it is both costly and useless to punish the 'people of gaza'. Israel isn't interested in that. What it is interested in doing is changing the regime, because hamas are a bunch of terrorist lunatics. propagandist my ass.

Peace will never be achieve unless Hamas is no more, Israel stops its settlements and its brutal oppression of the Palestinians.
glaro777 3 years ago 2
In Dershowitz's eyes, Israel is always correct - they are a perfect state that does nothing wrong.
I thought this Zogby character was truthful and made the better argument. Both sides are the problem, and unfortunately the civilians are caught in the middle of it.
The Palestinian civilians are getting the worst of it.
ieamcam 3 years ago
that is not true, if you actually read his book, you would know there are plenty of israeli policies that he disagrees with.
cyklonb1989 3 years ago 3
that's slander and completely untrue. Dershowitz is extremely opposed to the settlements, was extremely opposed to the occupation, and has been very verbal in opposition to many Israeli government policies.
964project 3 years ago 2
Armchair Generals. Neither of these men have rockets falling on their homes. The Israelis have to live side-by-side with bloodthirsty terrorists and anti-semitic journalists. Bush is a solid Christian who supports Israel's right to defend itself. G-d bless outgoing President Bush.

not true. he understands the conflict very well. he wants two states but he says that israel has the right to defend itself and arafat and hamas have made things worse for the palestinians. this is true

Dershowitz is not a great thinker, anyone can see that he's an idealogue who will twist facts and defy logic to excuse Israel all of its crimes.
he's like a smalltown football fan--go home team! trounce the other guy! we;re the chosen people and you're not!!!
rmutt4 3 years ago
not at all. He's very critical of the israeli government on a lot of issues, and he's one of the few that calls it down the line, unlike a lot of people, who often display the conflict as one-sided.
knoathasaurus 3 years ago
Dersowitz is a disgusting bloodthirsty liar.
He advocates torture if it can be done to Arabs (Dersowitz's favourite technique is needles under the fingernails).
He wants an entire Palestinian village bulldozed if one person from that village attacks Israel.
He encourages Israel to use targeted assassinations against Arabs in which Israel can rule as the judge, jury and executioner.
He's rewritten history in favour of the Zionists and he shouts anti semite at the 1rst critic of Israel.
badgeless 3 years ago
When did he say anything about wanting villages bulldozed if an inhabitant attacks israel?
knoathasaurus 3 years ago
Dershowitz:
[if terrorists found] "The residents would be given 24 hours to leave and then Israeli troops will come in and bulldoze the buildings. The order will already have been given in advance of the terrorist attacks and there will be no discretion. The point is to make the automatic destruction of the village the fault of the Palestinian terrorists..."
badgeless 3 years ago
This is with regards to terrorists attacking from civilian locations, such as schools and people's houses, right?
The people shouldn't let Hamas attack Israel from their houses - it's the regime that's in charge, that's syphoning off aid and ensuring their impoverished condition persists. Hamas is to blame.
As for the anti-semitic thing- you must admit that Israel is held to a higher standard than others - he is saying the only explanation for this, in reality, is anti-semitism.
knoathasaurus 3 years ago
Dershowitz was asked
"Any reason why you use needles under the fingernails as your torture method of choice?"
"I wanted to come up with a tactic that can't possibly cause permanent physical harm but is excruciatingly painful...different kinds of nonlethal torture might be more effective... drilling the tooth might be better than some. But the point I wanted to make is that torture is not being used as a way of producing death. It's been used as a way of simply causing excruciating pain."
badgeless 3 years ago
See, in this case he's specifically referring to an emergency - it's not that he's supporting torture in general, he's specifically saying he supports it as an exception, in a ticking bomb scenario. He says it shouldn't be allowed, and should only be permissible if authorized by the highest authority, in which case there would be transparency. It's facetious to frame it as his lashing out at Arabs.

do Americans know their country sends Israel over 30 million dollars each day in aid? do they know Israel occupies palestine and calls everyone a terrorist so they could justify attacking them? do you ignorant people know that HAMAS are firing rockets on land that had been occupied by Israel? do you know Israel built settlements on those occupied lands? do you know that CNN, Bloomberg, Fox and many others are jewish owned and will only ever be biased? if you didnt know that, now you do :)
ta3reesios 3 years ago
I'd like to see someone invade your home, build a house in your backyard, a big wall around it, and call you a terrorist if you resisted him.. if you think its fair then I will turn Jewish and move to Israel
ta3reesios 3 years ago
In the words of Dersowitz when asked by an interviewer:
"what is counterterrorism and what isn't? Many groups could argue that another group is using terror against them."
Dersowitz:
"Of course, and al-Qaida thinks that Americans are terrorists. YOU CAN ALWAYS CALL YOUR ENEMY A TERRORIST" (emphasis mine)
It seems Dersowitz knows that the designation of "terrorist" depends on what side you're on. Israeli assassins and bombers are "freedom fighters" Palestinian resisters are 'terrorists"

why is it that Israel "owes" Gaza to open its borders to it? Any sovereign country can choose how to handle borders freely. Why should Israel be held to different standards? I would also point out that Egypt has sealed its border with Gaza...

Hey asshole, Israel doesn't legally own any of the land they took in 1967.
juliaisafilmbuff123 3 years ago
