listen to what he is selling: if a tablet is a TV then you will have to buy sooner or later cable for this tablet. and control this internet connection. just as it happend to cellphones and tv, it will be split broken up to parts and sold .in the long run they will make more cash. think about what your doing before you support this idea cause this might make the tablet nothing more then a monitor w. buildin remote& distroy the internet. have a look at what uefi is doing with our motherboards
No. How many people own Tablets? This is a circle-jerk for wealthy, trendy people. I hate it when someone takes their limited perspective and says "This is what people are doing."
Notebooks > tablets. You couldn't sell me a 16Gb tablet computer if you told me it was $100. It's a case of "it wasn't broke...why did we try and fix it?"
Tablet is the TV of this generation? BS I stream my TV from my laptop onto a proper big boy TV that is 40+ inches. Why settle for a tiny 9 inch screen?
Wrong... Desktops and Laptops would be by far more accurate to describe as the TV replacement than the tablet. Tablets are still not mainstream enough, mainly due to pricing, to be considered what this guy is calling them. I'd sooner say the internet has become TV anyway, since you can access any kind of digital media through it (tv shows, film, news, music, etc).
Why single out tablets? The WEB is the TV of this generation. Will tablets become the primary tool for browsing the web? Mmm...maybe. I type so much while browsing the web, though, that I doubt a tablet would suit me very well. If the web were passive, tablets would be ideal. But it's not, and virtual keyboards are too cumbersome and slow at the moment.
well either tablet, laptop, or netbook, I'm just glad we have the technology to have progressed this far. I don't see anything wrong with owning any of these devices {seeing as I myself own a netbook}, So long as they, like everything else, Are used in moderation.
Sort of agreed. A laptop's pretty bulky but a tablet's easy to hold and check up on the news / youtube / comics before bed. To be honest I got mine for $200, and I think it was a great investment. Having said that is it worth $500, aka as much as a laptop? Absolutely not.
This video is bullshit. Everything he described applies to our PC's, which everybody has, not some stupid device only a few have that can't do half the things the cheapest laptop on the market can do.
@dioseolo I think it is taken out of context. I think he is hypothesizing on the possibility of what a tablet will become rather than saying what it is in the now.
@stumpythedestoyer Then watch the video again. He's talking is present tense, and not even once says anything even remotely close to "the possibility of what a tablet will become".
@dioseolo you really don't understand that he's talking about more than just right now? He starts out talking about where the web is going. That is a big enough hint that he is talking about where he believes things will be going. Maybe he worded it in a way that confuses some people, but come on it is so obvious that he is talking more about the future...if for no other reason than because not everyone has a tablet.
@dioseolo Yeah that's why I said it was taken out of context. People can talk about the future and still talk in present tense. And I think it could be argued that he is talking about the future of the device when he first states "we have 4 pillars of where we think the web is going"
@dioseolo My mother has a kendall, But even she still prefers using her laptop or pc for most things. Everyone I've met that has a tablet is pretty much the same. I guess some people prefer them, But everyone I've met that has one only ever seems to use it on the go.
And I don't have a chihuahua, but I do have a better than advanced/average understanding of theoretical physics, a complete understanding of mathematics as it applies to advanced physics, and a on par understanding of Dawkins, Darwin. Einstein. Bhor, Hubble, etc. As a result of careful study of there works.
People are probably going to look back at the tablet as something that didn't fit into any scenario- it required being held, people already had laptops, cellphones, and big TV screens. It was a fad.
Of course a guy who runs a company that makes tablet apps wants tablets to be king.
While there may end up being more people using tablets than laptops or desktops that is because the majority of people do not need the functions of a full OS, the scaled back, dumbed down interface of an iOS or Android tablet is perfectly functional for their needs. However tablets will never replace the need for laptops and desktops because there will always be real work that needs to be done.
I agree, my tablet is my new TV. It's an interactive TV. It's a portable TV. The only problem is, it's not so great for sharing a viewing experience with friends and family. TV is more shareable.
I think he's a few years off on his assessment. More people have a PS2 or PC than a tablet. When tablets drop to a price point a minimum wage earner can get without having to save up for then he'll be right. I have a low end tablet and I do enjoy reading and watching video on it, but I live in an area that has wifi and internet access above 56K. There's still a large chunk of the US that can't get high speed internet. If you can bunny ear a tablet, maybe...
Can't type or do work on a tablet. Sure they're cool, but most people can't afford them. Laptop will forever be king until tablets can figure out a way to work around the keyboard problem
I can curl up in bed with my laptop, I don't know what he's on about with this "PCs are distant" malarky...well I do because he's a CEO of a tablet company and this is an advert, not an impartial talk. The touch screen becomes dirty, is not as easy to use, it's like a ZX Spectrum in that you can't feel you've typed something, etc. It's more intuitive for me to just type! Then again I find PS2 handsets more intuitive than wii-motes, maybe it's what you grow up with?
@TheReviewSpace I've met one. And she has more money than she knows how to spend. And she didn't use it for anything useful. Just carried it around, while having a chihuahua in a handbag. So that's what it's for - a slim, trendy accessory for people with too much money.
It's also very handy for some professions where you rarely remain in the same spot, and you feel a smartphone doesn't deliver, and a laptop is too clunky to carry around. Quite a niche item imo.
I have a tablet, just got it for christmas and i'm not really a big technology guy but I can't believe the amount of time I spend on my tablet now. I also have a laptop but it doesnt compare to the tablet, it's an Asus EE transformer tablet if you're wondering. I literally love it.

For some reason you feel less stressed when using the tablet. I agree with the gentleman but he should lose the tie.
