Meu Deus quantas saudades...!!
Deus me faz voltar ao passado...
n tinhams celulares, tvs a cores, computadores, tinhamos amigos e emoção!
Nice song, but that ain't live! "Live" means singing along with an orchestra playing on the stage, not some guy saying "Cue the music" (in other words, play the soundtrack)
@mistofoles, for your info, THIS IS LIVE singing. The guy saying cue is not to play the soundtrack BUT RATHER a SIGNAL to start the music: Didn't you see the LIVE musicians from 2:44 to 2:53. I know Linda's voice and this is LIVE in every sense of the word. Also the recorded version has a faster tempo.
@mistofoles I know it's difficult to believe but artists back in the day actually had to have talent and performed their music live... not like the lip-synchers of today!
It was written by the late Gwen Guthrie and Pat Grant. Linda Lewis is the first to record it. I believe Gwen and Deniece did backing vocals on the album version. The album version though upbeat, has a melancholic feel to it. Linda is good like that. It seems as if she was trying something new with this performance.
Linda is hot. This version is new to me, yet it's pretty nice. Angela Bofill has my vote though. Maybe, because I heard it from her first, yet I'm a sucker for respecting folks that came prior.
I like the issac hayes version.Roberta Flacks version is nice to.But Angie Bofill sang it with such a sadness that is both touching and did the song the most justice.
Well technically, Linda's version is better as hers while in an uptempo beat still capture the essence of the song without sobbing. Angela's interpretation focuses on the sad part, but forgetting the hopefulness/joy of reuniting with lost love. Why repeating ''Have faith in me,'' if there's not a sign of getting back...Linda captured that greatly - Listen the recorded version.
jkoch49; It's really down to the sentimental attachment to whatever version you like. I'm impressed with Bofill's version but i grew up listening to Linda's version and it just reminds me of London in the mid-70s.(disco soul scene etc)
I couldn't agree more about the emotional and sentimental attachments one has to the music and what the music meant at the time. I just happen to have fallen in love with Angela Bofill's timbre - which no one has matched (with maybe the exception of early Toni Childs - see House Of Hope LP)since. Good tune, nonetheless. Cheers from Seattle.
Marlena Shaw, Roberta Flack, Maysa, and even Buddy Montgomery. However, Linda Lewis is the original and the only one so far to capture the Bitter-Sweet of the song perfectly.
Hi, "Mojoelem." I know nothing of a Whitney Houston version of my song. Please tell me on which CD/Album Whitney recorded "This Time I'll be Sweeter." Thanks!
does anyone have the video to a song entitled ( i don't do don't)?, i recall it from 2003 glastonbury acoustic, first time i'd ever heard the song, the guy on guitar was incredible, and her vocals superb
Beautiful!!! Linda is just pure talent...I love the way she uses her deep register to compliment her sweet soprano. Still the best female vocalist out of the UK.
iriear: Yes, she's one of the most soulful singers on this planet. Today's soul divas kill a song! They'd do well to take notice that Linda KNEW how to be tasteful. Whitney Houston would make this song last for 45 mins! Nice to see Mike Mansfield on "Cue The Music" doing the intro.
iriear; Yes, i agree. Whenever i hear Linda's voice it reminds me of being young and carefree in South London. Also of broken romances. She was unique in that she handled other songs not usually considered by young black female singers in London. At that time the others were mainly reggae singers.(Janet Kay for example)
Just wait a minute! Is this all I'm gonna get...I want more MOre MORE! Linda is such an awesome talent that I am ever so impress with... Thanks for posting and I hope there is more to share.
rrsrichard: That's true! This takes me back to my first romance. I knew some friends who went to school with Linda back in South London. This is one of Tony Macauleys best compositions. It was MADE for Linda! She's gorgeous.
taddyd1; My apologies. You are absolutely right. It is a Guthrie/Grant composition. For some reason it was wrongly credited to Tony Macauley on an old Linda Lewis L.P. i have. Tony wrote other hits that Lewis covered.
I have to correct myself. This was NOT a Tony Macauley song although for some reason it has been credited to him..maybe because he was famous for writing songs for Linda, The Real Thing, JALN Band etc back in the 70s. Gwen & Pat wrote this absolute classic!
