I don't know, I've never try mint. Setting the transparent bar at the top is pretty easy actually, just right click on the bar and click properties, there's going to be a tab named Background (the second one) and you'll see the option to set the bar transparent.

excellent, I havent gotten mint to boot (issues with disk) but once I do, will setting the transparency be easy?
Settings in Ubuntu were straight forward, but a little confusing for a first time user.
