Sorry, fake leather looks and feels cheap and shitty. If people used more leather things the world would be a better place. Leather lasts a long time and is less harmful to the environment than chemical bs. We eat and process the entire cow anyway.
in the united states, if we stopped killing deer, we wouldn't be able to eat. we killed too many wolves 100+ years ago to balance the population of deer, so even if every american stopped eating meat we would still have to kill deer. as for pleather, its an excellent alternative to leather in some applications. this has nothing to do with the bullshit about leather. it has to do with pure cash dollars. allot of things that could be leather can do just as well with pleather.
@kght222 and if you want to go further, i dare you to say that the wild hogs in the usa shouldn't be killed. they don't belong here, and they destroy the habitat for many species that are native, and they breed like mice. before you argue, figure out why wall street is called wall street.
@chavitavb Yea! Lets not directly kill animals, instead we'll make petroleum products that sure as hell aren't helping them either. And unless a few million people are going to commit seppuku (and no I don't just mean Japanese people), all the animals will eventually get fucked over.
But by all means, as long as we're not directly killing and utilizing an animal... [I'm not even going to bother talking about animal population control, because that always goes over PETA peoples heads.]
yes, kill more animal for leather! whats the point of having the leather if it doesn't look and feel like real leather? aren't cows going to get eaten in the end? I'd rather have it in the old way!
I honestly don't think it really matters that leather is made from animals, it's actually a good thing i think to use it, so long as you are eating the animal too. Like rabbits, deer, elk, cows.. you would kill them to eat them. But their bones, tendons, skin and fur can all still be used for many things. if you are just going to take the skin and thats it.. and you start raising animals in cages to do so, THAT is wrong. Using skin of something killed for food is not.
@JustAskJane I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time responding around your extra question marks and lack of capitalization. Though for the sake of not looking like a TOTAL prick, there's a video that shows up in the suggested videos box for pretty much every How It's Made video I watch that shows a brownish egg and the name of the video is "Still Drinking Coca Cola?".
Continuing on, and being a total prick about it, use proper English. You look offensively uneducated by not doing so.
@MiseryFields Oh, I haven't seen that video yet.. lol
Also, there's nothing wrong with my English. if you don't like it, don't pay attention to it. it isn't as if I am one of those people who go around and talk like this,
" ey dun D0 dat mahn ledar sUx I HAT LEDA AMINALS R my FRendz dey niS , Simfetik ledar iz betr." My English is perfectly clear. Correct capitalization and punctuation aren't always required.
I fucking hate fake leather, kill me more animals I love their hides. Fuck you PETA. Plus, has anyone ever slept on a fake leather couch and noticed that sticky sweaty feeling your skin makes with it? Yeah real leather does not do that.
Think of it this way animal rights activists / vegans
I am killing whats polluting the earth
You are killing whats trying to help the earth
Whos doing more good?
And who cares! at least the animals arent killed for fun. they are killed for a reason you cant live SOLELY on vegetables, thats why the aincent people HUNTED they didnt give a shit where there food came from or if it was against animal rights they cared about eating
Chrome tanning isn't the only way to turn a hide into leather, just the most common. Vegetable tanning is more expensive and takes longer, but makes a much nicer product and it's better for the environment. Both still aren't as bad in the long run as all the chemicals in this stuff. Real leather will last much longer, so you won't need to replace it as quick. Leather was one of the first manufactured goods, and a very versatile product. Yes it was once alive, but so were all the fish in the gulf
PVC is every where, the growing demand for leather is so high that it just cant be full filled by the animal skin leather, even if we do, we would have to kill of almost every cow or sheep or pig, etc on this plant. So we can not be just so ridiculously killing them. Rather, I think, ppl manufacturing the artificial leather should be more carefull in using the chemicals, the plastisizors specialy should be taken care of.
Hey jackass... this process is actually a lot worst for the environment... Using petroleum hello?... Killing innocent people to get their oil and raping the planet of its resources. Also real leather is breathable, if you wear anything pleather and are out in the sun you'll start perspiring perfusely
@luciferiexcelsil yeah we do, isn't that unfortunate? A leads to B, but there shouldn't be that A. Or at least, there should be much less of it, and less meaning no mcmurders and murder kings. I eat what I kill, I don't let genocidal companies do it for me.
@pingo775 that only goes so far. when a business a built on something that is just "killed anyways", the resources become more scarce when the business expands, creating demand that requires an excess amount of consistent merchandise flow that cannot be filled by just "dead already anyway" animals. Also, unlike food, you dont NEED to wear leather, its an unnecessary commodity that only fuels the killing of more animals, not just for the need of protein and nutrients that we get from animals.
@pingo775 it's ok if the leather is made from cows, but some time the animals are killed fro this matter (like dogs, or raccon), and I think that THIS is wrong.
@chavitavb I may be wrong but as far as I know they use the skin from animals killed for meat, so if that's true then making synthetic leather won't stop any animals from being killed.
@SebbeSucksBawlz I realized that misfortune but I'm talking about animals that are killed for inessential needs. I'm talking about animals like dogs and cats because in other parts of the world those animals are killed for fur.
@chavitavb animals get killed for meat there hides are turned into leather animals are not killed for leather and if u threw the hides onto land fill you would have a lot of methane which wouldnt help the planet

anyone that thinks cows are killed for their skins is a complete idiot.
cows are raised and killed for their MEAT.
Leather - like JELLO - is a byproduct ....and a cheap one at that
It is not profitable to raise cows for their skin..........
