Justin Bieber video: 4 millions views after only few months... Microsocopic creatures video: 10K views in 3 years... that's the world we are living in... Great video! Great song! :D
I'm taking a Biology class and we briefly covered some different bacteria species (it's just a lecture class). I've looked through a microscope lens once or twice before but only at basic plant cell structure (vacuoles, cell wall shit like that) . So it's really cool to finally see the live organism thriving in its own environment. So much life around us that no one cares to see. great stuff you've got here keep it up.
great! this video is much appreciated, you clearly love organisms as much as me! by the way, any advice on starting my own micro-farm? can you buy these creatures, or at least their eggs?
@PDMLJC Thanks! I think daphnia is a really good place to start; they're easy to set up, maintain and can breed really fast! Get a see-through container of about 1 litre or more if you can, fill with tap water and let it stand for 24 hours (to let the chlornie evapourate). Then go to an aquarium shop and buy a bag of LIVE daphnia for about 40p and add this to your container. You can feed the daphnia small amounts of live bakers yeast but be careful not to feed too much.
LOL so funny to look down on these stupid looking things. They probably have the brain of a zombie if not less intelligent. It survives on basic needs. It's stupid but damn can it kill.
LOL Look at us and our brain structure and look at these things. Makes me lawl.
@Rxe08 The best method I can come up with would be to clear a small area of the pond of all the green crap like spirogyra and duckweed, wait for the sediment to settle and then slowly use a daphnia net to swoop around a bit in the cleared area. It depends how many you want to collect. An alternative to a daphnia net could be a very finely meshed aquarium net, I've got a little one that works really well.
cool too cooll.. i mean.. i thinck we can put our self in thoes microorganism place and ask the question... when will be able to realise about the envoirment and the rest of the things... when we will be able to see what is out side that drop of wather?
we can be analised just like you did or we can be just a drop of wather someware... lost.... is it ?
I think we actually found one ameoba. We just hadn't started recording at that point which is a shame :( keep looking for ameobas, you won't be disappointed! Thanks for the comment

Fantastic. I have studied Daphnia quite a bit, and it was a delight to see them like this again. Much appreciated, and my students will agree.

Do you have a suggestion for how to collect daphnia, or other even littler guys, without getting pond scum along with them?

Excellent video; I didn't know that daphnia had saccadic eye movements.

@Peter5930 I didn't know about saccadic eye movements before your post. As geeky as it is, it's an interesting topic
