Both of these cars are overweight pigs, imo. Thank goodness that Ford brought out the new 5.0L as I think it is a huge step in the right direction. MUCH less weight with a little less power = much better performance.
@dddjjf 1st off 426's and 440's didnt run 12's stock. and SRT10, your talking about a engine thats a V10 and over 500ci and is only available in 2 expesive cars, And Chevrolet also makes big engines, how about the 502? And Ford is the one more likly to run forced induction not Chevy, but even then the Fords are only using 4.6's and 5.4's. You could easly build up a 4th gen F-body with a LS1 to be faster then a Viper for the money. And your odviosly a "fanboy" also or you wouldnt have commented
the shelby only gets saved by the forced induction....if the challenger was forced inducted, well it would be a different story. the challengers normal aspiration being that close is good though, and besides its on the street in the real world that matters not really the track....

@beepandbop The Challenger's chassis & interior layout is based on the Charger/Chrysler 300. Thats were all the weight came from. For 40 grand, they could've design a different, more lighter chassis, along with a different interior setup.

i sat in a mustang - the interior is nothing like a challenger, Its retro and ok but not as nice. Cheaper feel in knobs and other things plus your sitting on the floor in the mustang. Windshield roof line to low - cant see shit. Challenger - your sitting in a drivers position not a 82 firebird position like in the mustang, lol. Still both car are cool and thats all that matter - ford for ford and dodge for dodge guys.
@MicroOrginisum we had an old beater dodge ram small pickup that had 500 000+km on it the transmission went and we could have fixed it but it was to old so we bought a ford ranger in 2007 and that thing has had problem after problem just recently we hit a speed bumb going 20 and it shut off the fuel cell
@cerwinvegafan whatever i have an 02 ranger and it has never had a problem. My cousin bought a new durango and the next day the ignition wires in the steering colum failed now he has to start it by lifting the hood and connecting two wires.

im gonna have to disagree with them saying the challengers interior is better. Dodge uses the same interior for alot of their cars. The challengers interior is almost exactly the same as that of the PT cruiser. At least the mustangs interior is unique to the mustang. But then again, not that I or any muscle car fan really cares about the cars interior

@hypermite01 ive been inside a PT cruiser and a charger, and seen the inside of a challenger in person. the shape of a PT cruiser is much different, but the general look is similar to that of the charger, which as we just agreed isnt much different than the Challenger. Dodge and Chrysler pretty much re use their interiors with minor changes. am i wrong?

@fashizze Well if you look at it, the challenger is not supercharged and weighs close to a thousand pounds heavier and the mustang wasn't that much faster for that amount of weight. Furthermore, the ride on the challenger is superb and creature comforts are awesome. The GT500 is an awesome car....but for the money....I think Challenger is nicer...just like the guy said... the challenger is a big boy's car. :)

Competition in the class makes all cars better and faster. Mustang needed Camaro and Challenger to up the ante. Ill pick the gt500 all the time, hell the Super Snake is what I want. But I love the Challenger too. Bottom line is that choice is a good thing.

i have a 69 mustang fastback, its great but i cant drive it in the winter, i cant drive it every day, the shelby is a great car to but like they said challenger is better for road driving so i might get the challenger srt8 to get from point A to B, to show off some power, i still like the shelby tho and the 67 shelby GT 500 was the best muscle car of its time. Go to muscle mustangs & fast fords online the magazine pulled a 12.4 with the gt500, and an 11.8 with the KR which has 40 more hp than the regular gt500. This srt8 is auto, they run on average 13.3s , the manuals pull 12.9 at best. Plus your wrong about the gt500s top speed, it has a governor limit on it it will not allow it to break 155. with it off it will kill the srt8. Who goes 175 anyway really come on. der
wel 1st off i didnt make those up.. every magazine has had different times. it depends on drivers. and plus ive seen guys who couldnt drive. run 1/4s of 13.8 on gt500 like a jackass but yea and about the 155 governed speed yea it was my mistake because the 03-04 termis can top over 170. but the srt8s can go over 170.. they have long final drive ratios .. there gears have no bias
There is something to be said for Mustangs. Lighter, better handling in the real world and faster with some mods. Hec I have an`89 GT built from the block up with all high po parts/components. If I were to put a supercharger on it ...well it would be scary fast if it`s not already! Mustangs are the working mans performance car. Still I really like the Chally and would love to have one ...it`s different and a real head turner!
Its simple, the Challenger is more easy to live with every day and cheaper. The Shelby is faster, but you pay for the extra speed. Me personally Id take the challenger, spend the saved cash on some upgrades and try to have the best of both worlds.

nice i was lucky enough to do a couple of tours over seas and when i got back i could afford to put a forged bottom in mine so when i go to the track i change the pulley to a 14lb pulley and re flash to around 520. but normal driving i keep it a round 450 at 10 lbs. i have JBA do all of my tuning they seem to be able to keep it safe and strong at the same time.

SCT only allows 2 retunes and costs about $250. Delta Force tuners allow lifetime retunes and only go for around $150. Besides, my best friend's dad is a Ford Master Technician and he does all the work for cheap.
Umm no first off the SCT Power Flash X3 is $400. But you can tune as much as you want as long as its on the same car. I have the exact same thing for my Grand Marquis.

@beepandbop The Challenger's chassis & interior layout is based on the Charger/Chrysler 300. Thats were all the weight came from. For 40 grand, they could've design a different, more lighter chassis, along with a different interior setup.

i sat in a mustang - the interior is nothing like a challenger, Its retro and ok but not as nice. Cheaper feel in knobs and other things plus your sitting on the floor in the mustang. Windshield roof line to low - cant see shit. Challenger - your sitting in a drivers position not a 82 firebird position like in the mustang, lol. Still both car are cool and thats all that matter - ford for ford and dodge for dodge guys.
Good over all review, not bad for motor trend.

im gonna have to disagree with them saying the challengers interior is better. Dodge uses the same interior for alot of their cars. The challengers interior is almost exactly the same as that of the PT cruiser. At least the mustangs interior is unique to the mustang. But then again, not that I or any muscle car fan really cares about the cars interior

@hypermite01 ive been inside a PT cruiser and a charger, and seen the inside of a challenger in person. the shape of a PT cruiser is much different, but the general look is similar to that of the charger, which as we just agreed isnt much different than the Challenger. Dodge and Chrysler pretty much re use their interiors with minor changes. am i wrong?

@fashizze Well if you look at it, the challenger is not supercharged and weighs close to a thousand pounds heavier and the mustang wasn't that much faster for that amount of weight. Furthermore, the ride on the challenger is superb and creature comforts are awesome. The GT500 is an awesome car....but for the money....I think Challenger is nicer...just like the guy said... the challenger is a big boy's car. :)

Go to muscle mustangs & fast fords online the magazine pulled a 12.4 with the gt500, and an 11.8 with the KR which has 40 more hp than the regular gt500. This srt8 is auto, they run on average 13.3s , the manuals pull 12.9 at best. Plus your wrong about the gt500s top speed, it has a governor limit on it it will not allow it to break 155. with it off it will kill the srt8. Who goes 175 anyway really come on. der

There is something to be said for Mustangs. Lighter, better handling in the real world and faster with some mods. Hec I have an`89 GT built from the block up with all high po parts/components. If I were to put a supercharger on it ...well it would be scary fast if it`s not already! Mustangs are the working mans performance car. Still I really like the Chally and would love to have one ...it`s different and a real head turner!

Its simple, the Challenger is more easy to live with every day and cheaper. The Shelby is faster, but you pay for the extra speed. Me personally Id take the challenger, spend the saved cash on some upgrades and try to have the best of both worlds.

nice i was lucky enough to do a couple of tours over seas and when i got back i could afford to put a forged bottom in mine so when i go to the track i change the pulley to a 14lb pulley and re flash to around 520. but normal driving i keep it a round 450 at 10 lbs. i have JBA do all of my tuning they seem to be able to keep it safe and strong at the same time.

SCT only allows 2 retunes and costs about $250. Delta Force tuners allow lifetime retunes and only go for around $150. Besides, my best friend's dad is a Ford Master Technician and he does all the work for cheap.

If what we hear about the 302 coming out next year is true you better quit trash talking cause the mustang will EASILY run with your beloved Camaro all day.

Camaro was manufactured to compete with the mustang. Bottom line is that "IF" camaros had existed, they wouldn't be as good because chevy would have no competition and thus no reason to improve their product. However, had camaro's come first then I'm sure ford and dodge would have followed suit in the muscle car race.
