  • I first heard the song from Mario Lanza as "The Loveliest Night of the Year."

No matter what it's called, good music gets around.

  • So many of us fans are still sad not to have Mr. Guitar around, however, just embrace all the wonderful music, the outstanding talent, the amazing techniques that he gave us..... I still listen almost daily. Thank you daffydoug....my mood improves each time I hear him play.

  • Every time I come across any of Chet Atkins' recordings, I miss the man. What a loss of such great talent. And this recording of 'Over The Waves' is another proof of the man's genius.

  • The brilliance of Chet Atkins is again made evident in this rendition. Thank you for posting.

  • Sobre Las Olas translated is Over the Waves .

  • That guy griping against Chet is now gone for good. I just won't tolerate it. He can go gripe elsewhere as far as I'm concerned. I didn't make this Channel for people to badmouth Mr guitar. I made it for people to enjoy his legacy. That's my purpose and I'll stick by it. I still have a few hundred more Chet tunes to share with those who ENJOY Chet's music. Talking bad about Chet is walking on the fighting side of me.

  • @daffydoug

Ah, don't mind him, I say. Just keep posting more of Chet's works and stay content that people who dig Chet's music far outnumber those who don't. You can't please them all.

  • @derequwc I don't mind him. I just delete him! Can't come on my Chet channel and say bad things about Chet!

  • @GlowStoneband Oh please stop the race card! Mexican is not a race first of all, it is an ethnicity. Hispanics are Caucasians as are those from India. Last time I heard Mr. Rosas was also of Mongol descent (American Indian). That includes two thirds of humanity in his blood. I think the man of this particular house did a respectful rendition of Mr. Rosas' music. He did not steal, he gave respect. Skills can write you out of the business first of all. Please leave people alone.

  • @GlowStoneband What a load of pretentious rubbish. To begin with, it has been in the repertoire of New Orleans bands ever since Rosas visit to the city and has been played in many styles. It is commonly known in English as "Over the Waves" which is an exact translation of "Sobre las Olas" You're not a musician, just a pontificating musical bigot. If you're so smart let's see a video answer to this of you playing it any which way you like

  • @nicktbiz Are you talking to me? Confused, I have played 10 hours a day for ten years on guitar (metal). I would say that, at least I am dedicated. Pontificating, you be the pontificator. Pretentious? No, I played 10 hours a day for 10 years. You sound exactly how you described me. Pretentious? No I am his blood nephew. Do I care? Yes, and this is not a blast at you, seek a qualified mental health professional. Anger at this for no reason is a good sign.

  • Chet soothes my soul........

  • Ther will never be another like Chet Atkins And Jerry Reed. Love their music.

  • @GlowStoneband Chet having no talent?? Ha ha ha dude, what planet did you step off of? Are you trying to win the comedian of the year award?

  • The author of this waltz is a Mexican musician. Juventino Rosas!!!! Sobre las olas, not over the waves!!!! Beautiful name for a song "Sobre las Olas"

  • @cepillin2008

Sorry, I just took the title off the record cover exactly as Chet had it written down..

Maybe we need to tell Chet he needs correction...

  • @cepillin2008 Juventino Rosas was my ascendant uncle and no apologies are needed. My father and my sister were named after him. I have never learned Spanish. This song is "Over the Waves" to me. I plan to do a respectful version of this song in my future. It will be entitled "Over the Waves". The anglicized title is what has made the tune popular and I am thankful for it.

  • @bloodandbones9 Yeah, man, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think someone would get all huffy because I called the song "Over The Waves" and took the title DIRECTLY off the album cover! Geeesh! Give me a break. And I'll tell you something else: This guy saying Chet has no talent is walking on very thin ice with me. That's like saying Michael Jordan can't play basketball. Or like saying Einstein couldn't do math. TOTAL ignorance and I really don't have time or patience for that here.

  • @daffydoug This dude is about to get himself banned from my channel. Say one more bad thing about Chet, and I'll hit the ban button so fast it will make his head swim. I don't tolerate that kind of crap on my Chet channel.

  • @daffydoug I don't care about race, I care about humanity. I really love the version the German central military of the ministry of defense did on here as well. There are many versions that I like. Its a heavily covered song by artists, sort of like Robert Johnson's song (the House of the Rising Sun). Hispanics, are caucasian anyway, just a different ethnicity.

  • @bloodandbones9 I don't care about race, either. What I really care about is people bad mouthing Chet! And if they do it on my channel, I will ban them.

I'm a man of peace. Problem is when people cop an attitude and think they know everything when their words clearly emblazon their ignorance for all to see. All I want to do is share Chet's music with humanity, which is why I started this channel and really put my but at risk every time I post a tune.

  • @bloodandbones9 They are people inhabiting the Caucasus region. By the way Juventino Rosas has more Indian or Native American facial structure than European.

  • @n64wilbert

Yes. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Rosas was indeed a pure blood Native Mexican Otomi Indian, and he even had no formal musical training !! Amazing.

Thus, Johann Strauss Junior (from Europe) was not the only Viennese Waltz composer, because music has no racial boundaries. Unfortunately, Mr. Rosas died very young, at an age of only 26.

  • @barrhavener The majority of great ones in musical history never had any musical training: The Beatles, Elvis, Lionel Richie, Javier Solis, etc. Music and talent is bestowed on whomever the bards above decide is worthy to spread it's genius be it a humble mexican like Mr.Rosas. Javier Solis, a por boy from Mississipi Elvis, etc. ;-)

  • @bloodandbones9 The real Hispanics are people who inhabit the Iberian Peninsula and there not just Castilians there's also Galicians,Basques,Catalans,Ladinos, Portuguese,Aragonese and Vlencians they just lived in the Archaic entity possessed by the Romans, that has been entitled Hispania.

  • So nice. Thanks for posting.

  • Chet's my hero!

    Gretsch'n

  • Thanks for posting Doug.

WOW!!! That`s quite the collection you have of Chet Atkins, the master of guitar.

  • That's only the tip of the iceberg.

  • Chet was the greatest.

  • oh, oh what a kiss - hmm hmm hmmm..... beautiful!

  • Another beautiful one Doug thanks I havent heard a chet tune i dont like yet lol thanks again

  • Me too! I like 'em all! And believe me by "all" I mean all 8 or 9 hundred of them! (of which my private collection consists)
