  • hummers were not made for desert storm the hummer was first made in 84 or 85 long before desert storm it was designed and made to replace the tiny jeep that was only good for moving a couple of people around the hummer has alot of different uses gun trucks radar trucks ambulances and many other things so get your facts straight before you talk about stuff

  • Hell no. I'd love to see a jeep do the things an h1 can do and fail epically at it too!

  • @ 1:01 redneck emergency traction

  • jeeps do it best.

  • Rednecks

  • Just get a CJ7

  • hummers are the shit

  • @markssite

Diesels are superior to other cars in many ways, they tend to break less often too, and diesel gas is cheaper.

But in europe average and small cars are also equipped with diesels, so that argument is kind of weak.

Also... people crossed the sahara desert in tiny cars, not even 4x4.

So obviously it's not size that matters.

However diesel emits fine particles which destroy your lungs, if inhaled too much.

in the countryside it doesn't matter, but most people here live in big cities.

  • @groeneduim good points but keep in mind what the original hummer was made for, desert storm. like you said in the country or in a desert size doesnt matter. they were designed to be wide so they can drive along the side of a sand dune or any hill without tipping over. if i remember correctly i think they wont tip over up to a 60 degree angle. thats pretty crazy.

  • @markssite

See... I don't critisize the arab armees or the other desert people for driving around in reliable vehicles.

I critisize the fact, that even here in europe where we don't even know that kind of environment people drive cars that are double as heavy, double as big as necessary for their purpose.

See... in germany our army makes the Unimog vehicle.

It's actually much bigger than any hummer, but it's for military transport, ...however they sell old models to civilians.

  • @markssite

I used to drive one in the sports club... but it was because we would drag immensily heavy ropes through a field.... over a long distance.

...So this truck has lots of practical potential... but you never see anybody drive this truck in a city.

And I wouldn't be bitching aboout utility vehicles so much if it wasn't for the fact that so many people just buy them because they think that they are cheap and cool, instead of really using them in a meaningfull way.

  • @markssite

Well, over here in europe diesels are immensely popular. .Also diesel is much chesper than the other gas.

But here not only trucks are diesels but also smaller cars.

They're small and smart, yet also powerfull if needed. See, the Dakar race ahs been done in normal street cars too sometimes. And some african people crossed the whole Sahara desert in a small fiat panda diesel.

So however diesel is superior to other gas, these cars are still too large for cities.

  • most hummers are diesels so they let off less harmful emissions than most little cars. and off roading doesn't hurt the environment. just think about it...if every human died right now what would heal faster, off road mountain trails or asphalt streets? yep if humans didnt maintain off road trails nature would plant new trees in the middle of the trail. them asphalt streets to drive a prius on takes about 100 years to deteriorate. the most harmful things on the environment are humans themselves.

  • just b/c all you haters cant afford to kill the eviroment dosnt give you the right to hate us for it!

  • I dislike hummers.

    H1 might be neutral.

Actualy a hummer is pointless, and not so sure about its offroad abilitys.

Where I do use offroaders, hummer would be way too big to fit in.

anyways, regardless nice video, thank you for the upload.

  • In case anybody didn't know, the H1 Hummer is an Army vehicle. That's one of the reasons why people want them. They are big and cool!

  • H2 and H3 are a joke.... Rebodied Chevys..

  • @mulletstang You're soooooo wrong, too bad you don't know better, but we understand. Common myth, doesn't take a big mind to buy into it. Have a look under one, they are totally different from Colorados or Suburbans, but you go on & believe what the masses tell you, it's ok...we'll just roll by you in our comfy Hummers while you contemplate it & wish you'd shut up long ago.

  • @cbphoto I work on HMMWV's EVERY DAY, the military ones that dont suck as bad as the H2 and H3.. I can look under both and tell you that they dont deserve the hummer name (from a distance), They are no better than a Suburban, Tahoe, Silverado, or Colorado (actually worse based on more weight with same power as aforementioned trucks). Weather they have the exact same frame as a Suburban or Colorado is beside the point, they are a facade of the military truck.

  • H2=extension of short penis

  • If you don't have the money to buy a H1 hummer don't buy one anything but the H1 is a complete peice of crap and nothing more than an oversized suv.

  • прикольная тачка

  • Now there is a portrait of a hummer owner.

    Old, weak, fat and feable.

No wonder they need 3000 hp under the hood to make up for there needledicks.

  • There is no beating an H1, that is the car in control of off-road.

  • how bout get a real military hummer? not a suv/suburban with a hummer body lol thats all it is

  • @aveman3 ok so you read that in another comment right? well its not true at all, they were built on the same platform but that is it.

  • cool looks like great fun

  • i would own a hummer if it weren't for the fact that a nissan patrol already beats the crap out of it. stock standard from the factory 20 years ago. i know mine does.

  • The h1 only had one problem. Fuel economy

  • Funny how a H2 and 3 have NOTHING to do with an H1 but ppl buy them anyway. Consumers are funny.

Like you can't put a E locker or ARB in any Toyota Hilux or Landcruiser and have a WAY better quality truck.

Put the traction control of a H2 and a ARB locking diff in a Chebby Yukon and what's the point? It'll only be a $10-$15,000 CHEAPER.

Oh yeah... Gotta show our wealth here in the states... Even though owners will tell you otherwise. Denial aint just a river

  • @F0ckUtoob

Japan, like Australia, doesn't let its citizens have firearms for defense of property, self, or family. I'll take a vehicle by a U.S. company. Gotta defend our rights here in the states. Let's see how much it costs the Japanese or Aussies to buy their rights back. They might have to pay in blood.

A son of the American Revolution

  • LONG LIVE HUMMER!!! GOTTA LOVE EM'!!!

  • Hummer owners should be forced to live on the coast so the effects of their 3 MPG vehicles will hit them first!

    Enjoy the flooding guys!

  • Do some research on how the batteries in a Prius are manufactured.

  • It takes more power to make a battery for a prius than driving a h1 for 5000 miles.

  • You're not well educated. First of all, the hummer does not get 3mpg. The H1 gets 15mpg, my H2 gets 12mpg and the H3 gets around 18.

That's not that different than many other SUV's with V8's. My girlfriend's Landrover gets 14mpg, my friends Toyota 2008 tundra gets 12mpg.

Now ask, how many more tundras have been sold than hummers alone? Look at the environmentally damaging effects of the manufacture of the prius? Are you really an environmentalist, or just a person without the dough?

  • @llamaslyr I don't know, lets put this a step further! Yeah sure the Hummer doesn't get 3mpg, but it can get much better than 15,12 or 18mpg. It all depends on how it is set up! With a gasoline engine or a diesel? With big knobby tires or normal size truck tires? With a 4.11rear gear or something bigger or smaller? With 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive? I bet you I could get 20mpg highway without even trying. 25mpg highway would be pushing it.

  • If you look carefully you can see the Northpole melting

    Lets offroad

  • what most people don't know is that diesel burns MUCH cleaner than gasoline, only the exhaust is visible from a diesel.

  • fuck the people that dont like hummers h1 and h2 are perfict off roaders

  • rather have a landrover defender.

  • fuck you

  • h-2s suck, they took the best parts out of a h1 and replaced them w a suburban, and stuck an ugly ass body over it. i wonder why gm is going tits-up?

  • @justin76bmw tahoe, not suburban, lol

  • @justin76bmw

UAW, OSHA, EPA, NHTSA, DOT, frivilous lawsuits, and citizens wanting something foreign, sometimes just for the novelty, instead of buying domestic products had a bit to do with it.

  • @McVearryAnderCalcutt oh i thought it was the sucking part.

  • @justin76bmw

Buy Me Weapons, cause BMW and its government don't trust me or want me to have any. Heck, they're trying to ban paintball in Germany and Australia now. Americans shot up BMWs in two wars already. Won both.

  • @McVearryAnderCalcutt uh, don't get me started on ww2, 1 country vs how many? if it were machine vs machine we would have lost, it took 5 shermans to take out 1 panzer, but that's another story. as for my bimmer,if you haven't driven one, you don't know. i own a ford, chevy, and a bimmer unfortunately the oldest, and best one comes from germany. besides, who gives a shit about guns, i'm talking about cars.

  • @justin76bmw First of all it wasn't '1 vs. how many' . Second, panzers is the general term - it only took 1 Sherman to take out PzIV (same class as Sherman or apples to apples). Third, those which could take out 5 could only do it in defense. If it took machine vs. machine we would still win in due time - panzers often couldn't even reach battle area, especially those that could take out 5....

German tech is more performance then reliability - always was and will be.

  • @justin76bmw There is no H1 parts in H2.

  • @zrvpvo8789 they both share ugly, the h1 is badass ugly, h2 just ugly.XD

  • @justin76bmw its a tahoe buddy not suburban and yes its the shittyest off roader ever

  • hummers r sick

  • fuck the people that dont like hummers, theyre probably just pissed that they cant afford one

  • @SteveIrwinRulesS I can afford several hummers outright if I wanted, but choose not to because I do not like them in the slightest. What a pointless vehicle, name one reason why it is a viable and practical vehicle for an average person to posess...?

  • @SteveIrwinRulesS My old cherokee can do that shit too,but cheaper. Sorry...

  • @SteveIrwinRulesS or were smart and build Jeeps that are cheaper and funner!

  • @SteveIrwinRulesS

    hahaha, no not really.

Have you ever considered, that some people live in big cities, where parking spaces are rare, and that it really sucks if a guy parks his oversized vehicle on two parking spaces, which results in the fact that you can't park there?

Or have you ever considered how much the emission of those vehicles is, and that the air ( and noise) near big roads is one of the main killers.

Also the US goes to war for oil to feed these enormous motors.

  • @groeneduim half of them are diesels so less emission than what you drive.

  • @markssite

    Nice, really nice.

I drive a bicycle. Every day. Like 25 kilometres.

The only emission is my body odor if I'm having a bad air.

...Also where I come from ... most streets are kind of narrow, and there are no real mud roads or something... so, I really wonder why so many people ahve trucks here.

Probably it's because their farmers and then they don't have to pay car tax and get taxfree gas.

My gf's brother got a similiar car... it's just a shame, an overseized boytoy.

  • @SteveIrwinRulesS its the gas we cant afford

  • nice

  • damn last hummer has a turbo!!

  • every h1 alpha does.

  • hummer c rien que de la marde. c comme gm , c de la criss de shit

  • those cars are Uugly!!

  • buncha fuckin losers. go get an old cj put a couple grand into it and see if you cant go farther faster and harder than a "hummer"!

  • you can make a live tonka truck out of anything for less money than a hummer...

  • 1:38

Look at all those kids driving their parent provided toys.

  • probably rugged and capable truck... but its so bloody wide! good for wheeling but width will limit its ability for real life travels.

  • if you wanna topple a boulder get a caterpillar instead

  • nice! I have a Yellow H1 and it is doing great, it is the best truck I've ever had

  • great vid guys that y we bought r truck just to play we got a h3 and drive the h1 off road ,

  • a defender would rip over any of those

  • not necisarily. Defender easily beats H2 and H3 yes, because theyre just restyled gm SUV's, but The H1 might just take care of the defender.

  • make a search for "why range rovers cant offroad" youll get your answer

  • Hahaha. tried that. couldn´t find any videos by that name

  • ~hey boys~

  • I trust that this is why the US army trusts Hummers over seas in this third world bullshit we have to put up with. lol

  • no one asked you to put up with that bullshit, america just wanted to get stuck there!

  • I love the hummer!!

Hummer: ride it, drive it, LOVE it!

  • my cousin just bought an H2 not to long ago....i think its a 2003...he doesn't care about gas prices. the thing rides like a car.

  • right, u should care about gas prices when u have a hummer... these things just drink gas like anything...

  • well that's him. he makes good money so yes, he can afford to fill up his hummer.

  • u should start working with him and then make me a partner also.. ;)

  • lemme tell you, where he works and what position he's in, youd make lotsa money ^^

  • tell me then, im all ears... i promise i will share my first cheque wth u ;):D

  • awesome :)

  • say what you want, this kind of car you won't get again, ever

  • say what you want this kind of car you will never get again

  • H2 and H3 looks like Matell Barbie pink car ... shouldn't ever get even near the mud.

  • It always cracks me up that when people argue, they argue extremes! Prius vs Hummer... there is a happy medium folks.

It's like people who get cold and turn the thermostat to 80 degrees.

  • Hummer jest super

  • Plus tell me why you belive anythin the oil companies say or a guy named Newt? Do you only believe and listen when it's on your side? What degree does Newt and the oil companies have that says they even have a clue what they are talking about? I'm sure you are an Al Gore supporter arent you? Have you seen how much fuel he wastes spewing her garbage and not even doing as he says. He wants US to sacrifice but he sure as hell wont. By the way show me PROOF that GW will increase hurricanes. :-)

  • If an oil company believes their product contributes to GL, then what does that tell you? It's the weekend & there's not enough time & space to go into GL. So, I'll just refer you to the US govt. own study. Google: "U.S. Climate Change Science Program and its Subcommittee on Global Change Research". Interesting that Bush, an oil man, finally admits GL is real. I guess he feels guilty about pressuring the scientists to hide the death tolls related to global warming. Research that too.

  • as for your clueless assumption that I'm an Al Gore supporter. Actually, I think he's the wrong person to be the face for GL. He has however been dead on with all his predictions so far. There was his crusade (along with his wife) on obscene content in music (studies show an increase in gangs after gangster rap exploded), then there was his prediction how the internet would change the world (it has). Let's just hope he's WRONG about global warming. Which doesn't look to be the case.

  • racer7nevercrashes. How about simple fact that there are people out there who love big trucks and can afford gas, they feel safe for their kids & it's comfortable & roomy.

So who are you to voice your pointless opinion when there are factories which exhaust more harmful thinks in our air & water in one day then all the H2's ever made put together.

Think about that for a moment.

  • hmmm, typed a reply about my "pointless opinion" which are actually US-funded scientific "points" on why you should make a point to be more selective of what & where you drive. But I guess that rant disappeared.

  • I actually own & drive 4 cars 3 are so moded that at idle they fail California emissions

    Because I don't give a f*ck I love it and don't drive them daily for that I have a RAV-4.

Many guys who own H-1 don't drive them daily do to exotic status of the vehicle & usually own other exotic cars of just cars to get around in, So once again your comment was pointless.

  • Geez, again, you guys really need to get some reading comprehension. Just scroll back, where I explained I'm not against owning some big gas guzzler. I'm against driving it around in a wasteful way. I.e., as your daily driver. Unless your daily commute is off road. Get it through your thick, simpleton skulls. Scroll back & read, before you comment.

  • Where is your head? You shoud address your 'warming' issue to the governement.

Would it be more effective to improve patetic public transportation(that worst then in many third world countries) in many US cities so those 'rich bastard' would ONLY take their 'guzzlers' to go off-road or to enjoy open air on weekend in their Bentley.

  • can't post long posts for some reason. Oh well. scroll back to the link of the US govt's own study on global warming. It's there. Read slowly. Don't jump to clueless conclusions.

  • another thing to think about: most people agree that Iraq is nothing more then a bullshit oil war. If not, Google : "oil ceo secret meeting cheney". If it wasn't for that need for more oil (which is partially due to fuel we needlessly waste), we wouldn't have good American soldiers dying in Iraq. Really think about that one...for more then a moment.

  • Wasn't it 'Saddam with his WMD and terrorism' the reason we invaded Iraq?

And wasn't it the 'invasion' and instability in the region that drove the price of oil up?

FYI,oil was always much more expensive in Europe. That was the reason why Italians drove Fiat-500 while Americans enjoyed 1963 Lincoln Continental. That was 40 years before H2 that you blame.

    You getting boring. Good night!

  • lol, you obviously didn't get the memo about the wmds & supposed terrorism. LOL! Well, here it is in a nutshell: ALL BULLSHIT.

  • And you telling me I have issue with comprehension?

You should for sarcasm - not Priuses in Malibu.

    Gees...

  • Wow, the way Youtube formats these posts doesn't make sense. They don't place them in chronilogical order after a day or two. They need to get their shit together, just like GM does. (Who just suffered the 3rd largest quartely loss in US history). Blame it on their short-sighted focus on gas guzzlin' compensator vehicles.

  • again..scroll back & re-read...slowly. Again, Google: ""U.S. Climate Change Science Program and its Subcommittee on Global Change Research". Notice the . gov? That's the US study. The one where Bush pressured the scientists to delete the projected death tolls related to global warming. Think about that for a moment.

  • racer, who has time to read this? This is the reason I say to you 'get a life'. Why don't you stop traffic on Sunset or Ventura blvd. and ask Range Rover driver (you'll find one at any time) if he/she cares and willing to give up the luxury given by being 'dumb' (per you) or in normal vocabulary smart enough to be rich - for your believe?

  • That's OK, I prefer to stay along the coast. Too many plastic, superficial people inland, especially in that neck of the woods. I actuallly used to work in Beverly Hills (aka: Little Persia!). Nose jobs & pretentious vehicles are dime a dozen. The real money city of Malibu is filled with more real people. And funny that there's more Priuses there then anywhere.

  • anyway, busy with doing some work in another window. Just Google: "U.S. Climate Change Science Program and its Subcommittee on Global Change Research". The energy crisis is just one reason why needless gas guzzlers are weakening the US. Scroll far back, I think I explained why H2's get a lot of ridicule while there's other vehicles that are just as wasteful. It's because they're the epitome of American waste. They really aren't practical 4x4's, thus, they're a waste.

  • Allow me to expand on the LOVE of global warming... think about life in the usa with an average temp of lest say 70 degrees YEAR ROUND. No more fuels burned to warm homes, at 70 degrees we wont need AC on all the time. Our roads will improve due to the lack of freezing and melting and hading tons of salt dumped on it. We could grow food year round thus making the world eat more. We have no more people freezing to death stuck in snow packed highways. I can go on. But its your turn.

  • Well said!

We were the only country where half of the people drove full-size trucks as daily transportation. When average German in 70-80's drove 1.8 liter 4 cyl. VW(many of the diesel) - average American drove 5 liter V8 Buick. Yet it is introduction of H2 that created 'fuel crisis'! Gees...

And you right - many houses in Europe don't even have AC.

  • LOL! yeah, try to skew what I said. I never blamed just the H2 for the fuel crisis. Go to "hummers suck" to read my .02 cent opinion on the "fuel crisis". Basically, it's conservative free market trade policies that built up a commie country, who are now competing for oil with the US, that are to blame. Also, the Big 3 auto makers are to blame as well, for not being practical, and caving into the vanity of people who compensate for insecurities by driving over-sized vehicles they don't need.

  • What fuel crisis? Last time I went to get gas it was there. You want to cut down on a waste of gas? Lets stop all forms of vehicle racing, and all you soccer moms out there who need to reproduce cause you think you need aa baby. Wear a condom or ..else... If we want to drive our vehicle we will. You want green do it yourself and leave us alone. :-)

BTW I LOVE global warming :-)

  • What fuel crisis? The one that's causing the Big 3 auto makers to lose BILLIONS and close gas guzzler plants and to concentrate on fuel efficient vehicles. The crisis that energy experts predicted 10 years ago that would change our car culture in the US. And the crisis that is the real reason Iraq was invaded.Google: "oil ceo secret meeting cheney". And the reason why HUMMER is going to get the axe. You can drive what you want, but the ridicule will only grow worse (& probably your self guilt).

  • Care to expand on your love of global warming? It would be ironic if some GW spawned hurricane wiped out every off shore oil rig. Then you wouldn't be able to sell your Hummer for peanuts. As evidenced on eBay, it's already that way. As for validity of global warming & the contribution humans make, hey, even the oil companies admit it's happening. Sheeit, even Newt Gingrich has commercials.

  • damn, in my drunken state, accidently cut my rant short ;-) Anyway, that's another thing the fuel crisis is affecting. The cost of beer has sky rocketed due to farmers wanting to grow corn to be turned into ethanol. Those poor rednecks who can only afford piss water beer are the one's really being hurt. Tell them about how you don't think there's a "fuel crisis". ;-)

  • Wow, warm weather is why YOU love GL? That's just pathetic. I'm sorry you don't live in an area that's a perpetually summer all year round. But you do pay a heavy premium for that. Interesting that in all the ritzy beach cities up & down the West coast, you only see a few Hummers. (Malibu seems to be Prius central). I guess when you REALLY are wealthy, there's no for a pretentious car. Shoots, in Kailua, Oahu, millionaires drive around in rust buckets!

  • geez, I really need to proofread before sending this stuff. HOpefully, you understand what I'm trying to say...

Anyway, have a great weekend. I bet a lot of H2 owners would be safer in their H2's then in their trailer park home during a tornado. I guess that's one plus for owning an Hummer ;-)

  • Wow, I'm really not paying attention to all this. GL=GW=Global Warming. And when I'm talking about GW, I'm talking about HCGW (human caused global warming).

  • H1 and H2 owners generally don't live in trailer parks. People who can afford these vehicles are typically able to buy them because they are either well educated, work hard, or are successful in as a business owner. So if you think "HaHa, they can't afford gas", your like mistaken.

    PS. Gore is a loser.

  • Used H2's are typically selling for $13-15 grand out here on the West Coast. On eBay where prices are a lot higher, if you check the 350+ closed auctions (of which, about 2% sold), there's a few that sold for $15 g's. That's nothing a maid couldn't afford, and that's who I suspect are driving these in the local beach cities. Where $200 grand can't even buy you a shack in the ghetto. While in the Mid West, it will get you a mansion.

  • That's another thing, I wanted to invite a Hummer club out to wheel against a Suzuki rock crawler club (no, don't belong to one, just wanted to post it on Youtube to show that Hummers really are "lumbering elephants"). And when I looked at Humvee spot net, practically all clubs are in the Mid West. Which explains a lot, since Hummers (even H1's) wouldn't be able to handle a real technical trail that are typical out here.

  • I wonder if you can load 2000 lb inside Samurai and do ANY off-road at all.

No offence but only MORON can compare H1 to Suzuki Samurai.

  • That's what's moronic about most Hummer owners, they don't know that gearing is far more important then H.P. when it comes to off roading. Then there's nimbleness of a smaller vehicle. Hummers are severely limited where they can go. So, what's the point. I've yet to see ANY Hummer (H1-3) do anything as technical as this video: Google "toyota 1985 4runner". And that thing is only on 31" tires. As for the Samurai comparison, it was going to be kind of a David slaying Goliath video.

  • actually, the video title changed, it's "toyota 4runner chinaman's gulch". Or just "toyota rock crawler". Or checkout the videos of old Ford Broncos, or Jeep's, or..a "Samurai buggy". Anything with a solid front axle! I.F.S is for pre-running. So, where's the videos of ANY Hummer that's taking on anything as technical & difficult as those cheap (in cost) 4x4's? Moab? LOL! That place is more for mountain biking! ;-)

  • Sure Hummer owner don't know about gearing.

Where did you find 'H.P.' in H1? How is it 200 H.P. engine moves 4 tons vehicle with 37 inch tires. Hold on - it's 5.5 tons when armored.

Have you heard of 'geared hubs'?

Get educated instead of running you mouth with clueless crap.

  • The purpose of the geared hubs is for ground clearance so the CV shaft doesn't get damaged. the design object in the h1 was to tuck all of the underpinnings up and out of the way so they don't get snagged. Snag a front CV shaft and that can ruin a troops day and have them stranded and killed. I drive a land rover discovery but give credit to the H1. It is a mean machine off road.

  • I suggest to look under H1 and see if what you saying is making ANY sense.

The purpose of geared hub is to double final drive ratio.

  • That is't the only purpose, and the transfer case lowers the final drive thats why you have low range. It would be easier to have a torque hub like on a tractor. they did it to move the drive shafts up higher to protect them from damage. I am a 7 yr veteran I know

  • With all do respect (as a former serviceman) - your military experience hardly makes you automotive expert. Ask yourself why people changing gear ratios when installing larger tires? You do have low range in your Rover, isn't? Put 37 inch tires and see how far you going to get.... Like I said - look under H1 and see if 2 inches would make any difference to protect half shaft.

  • Never said I was an automotive expert, I am however a mechanic. Yes there is some gear reduction in the geared hubs but the main ratios are in the differentials. If you look underneath the diffs are tucked away up between the frame rails, so they couldn't use conventional cv shafts with the diff that high or there would be no suspension travel due to the extreme angle of the shaft. When they designed it the only thing they wanted below the frame was the control arms. It is part of the design

  • If you mechanic - you should know what it takes to move 7500 lb vehicle with 37 inch tires. H1 main gears are only 2:73 :1 Without geared hubs you would need by FAR more powerful engine or twice lower gears.

Geared hub raises CV joint by few inches which is irrelevant for 'safety'. H2 along with many other modern 4x4 don't have geared hubs and hardly have issues with angle of half shaft.

  • I agree with you on that. I am just commenting on an article from AM General when the Hummer first came out, and according to that article that was one of the reasons for the geared hub. They could have put them in straight with a planetary setup like the unimog but instead resorted to geared hubs because it also helped reduce the chance of damage. Remember these things when armored can withstand running over a land mine. Never the less you do have good points and I agree.

  • Unimog has geared hubs as well - they part of the axles.

  • Yeah, they have planetary gears in the hubs. the shaft has a gear and you have 3 gears that rotate between the hub and the axle shaft. Just like on a front end loader or most other construction equipment. A good example is a Skytrax forklift, the kind with the long boom and 4WD. Not implying that you don't know that but I explained it so others could see.

  • an I have looked under too many H1's in the military. I wish I could find the article but it tells the purpose of the geared hubs and it has to do with keeping all of the drive train components tucked under to protect them. Look at the location of the diffs, trans ETC. that is why there is such a huge hump in the middle between the drivers and passengers side. Not trying to flame. I come with respect. We just have two different views on this,no pun intended. I do agree about the tires comment.

  • Don't worry - we just talking. Geared hubs purpose to double the torque. They could also allow for higher clearance if built into straight axle like German Unimog or Russian UAZ. No doubts that you've seen too many HMMWV but I'm looking at H1 right now. Like I said CV joint is only few inches higher which is irrelevant.

  • Drivetrain location is also has nothing to do with 'protection' . It's done to lower vehicle height and center of gravity without sacrificing ground clearance. This is also the reason for independent suspension. It came at cost of extra width. There is no problem to protect drivetrain components on any 4x4 with bars and shields. Look how Jeeps crawl over rocks.

  • Very true, and you raise a great point. It does keep the vehicle lower the vehicle without sacrificing ground clearance.

  • BS - you wouldn't be able to buy H2 for that much here on the West Coast before gas went up. Why don't you bring up the fact that many bussiness owners buy H2 for write-offs?

So what is the difference what they get rid of them for at the end of the warranty etc..?

  • Any business that bought an H2 for a tax write off, is a business that's clearly short-sighted, and bound to fail. I own a rental house in Cerritos, the local Hummer dealer has more fuel efficient cars then Hummers on his lot. And this is far from a poor area (most houses are 3/4 mil), median is high 6's). It's the arrogant image thing (& partly due to cost of gas) that's tanking the Hummer label.

  • I harldly know anybody that failed in bussiness because of H2 - grow up.

Please spare my time with 'far from poor' area - it's very far from 'rich' area.

Cerritos Hummer happens to be part of Cerritos auto-mall. It's obvious there are more fuel efficient car there.

I happen to know about Cerritos and LA.... so cut the crap!

  • geez, you're reading comprehension is grade school level. Either that, or you're purposely trying to skew what I say. Either way, I hope you don't confuse the smirks you get driving your Hummer with a smile. And btw, filty rich areas like La Jolla, or Malibu, you tend to see less compensator vehicles. Sheeeit, Malibu has to have the most Priuses (plural?) per capita.

  • 'you're reading comprehension is grade school level ' So as yours.

Besides the point that you post opinions not facts - H1 is the most 'GEARED' stock 4x4 in US.

Filty riches drive Prius for publicity - you should know that living in LA. They also drive Bentley's next day....

I doubt that you ever lived in former USSR but you sound like one of communist party leaders of 1960's.

  • Comrade, I'm far from being a commie. It's just interesting that conservative free market trade policies built up a commie country. It's all about greed & not really caring for the US. Btw, I didn't say I live in LA, I said I own a rental house in Cerritos. (& yes, far from a poor area). La Jolla, CA & Kailua, Oahu are home base. Anyway, I'm about to leave to enjoy the SoCal weather. I hope that's the marine layer today & not smog! Have a good one.

  • 'I'm far from being a commie' - I'm sure you not but you sound like one.

You can't tell people what to drive to 'save gas' - isn't it we FREE country?

It is not H2 owners fault that we have moron as a president...

You right I'm taking off to Venice. Have a good one too.

  • true. I'm not advocating getting rid of all gas guzzlin' 4x4's. Or any vehicle that wastes gas in the sake of having "fun". BUT..those vehicles shouldn't be used for the typical everyday commute. Waste should be balanced out with conservation. It will benefit everybody. Including those gas hogs by reducing demand, & thus, gas prices.

  • 'wastes gas in the sake of having "fun"

According to you US government should ban every 4x4,every sports car, every bike, every Benz, every BMW,every Rover, every Rolls, every boat and so on... Why would you need gaz gazzling Corvette if Smart will take you to the same place? GET A LIFE annoying treehugger!

  • tree hugger? LOL! Another ignorant stereotype.(Btw, what's the stereotype of a Russian? Dumb blow hards & hookers. LOL!) I guess you're one of those simpletons that only sees the world in black & white. Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm far from a "tree hugger". As for "global warming", like I said, just check the recent US govt. studies. Google: "U.S. Climate Change Science Program and its Subcommittee on Global Change Research". Life is too short to waste it here. Get a life? LOL!

  • Moscow is the MOST expensive city in the world you moron. My buddy wife wear $75K dress and brings furniture from France for her birthday party along with renting first six floors not to disturb other guest at Beverly Hills hotel. That is how 'dumb' Russians are you fucking idiot.

Looking at your profile I'm not the first one who noticed you have nothing better to do but run your mouth. Again - GET A LIFE!

  • Wow, you wasted a lot of space trying to project an image of wealth. $75k dress? What a waste. But that says a lot about a shallow, superficial life. And about the people that drive wasteful compensator cars. Anyways, carry on with your excessive life. Hope your boat doesn't sink, so to speak. You might end up playing Russian roulette. As for my profile? LOL! That's just a miniscule part of my life. Basically just music to listen to while I work in another window. Speaking of which...

  • 'Shallow life' Why - because you can't afford life like that?

No it's not yearly salary wasted to impress people - it's a fraction of few million a month...

Dude, you are patetic loser. Enjoy your Honda and don't bother people with your crap.

  • LOL! More clueless, ignorant assumptions. Anyway, I could care less about your insignificant little life. Carry on with the compensating...I have better things to do : )

  • Hmmm, maybe when I get old & senile, I'll buy a Hummer full of Russian hookers and watch them wrestle in Almas caviar ;-)

  • You can't afford Russian hookers jerkoff.

  • zprov: you really need to work on your reading skills. I actually said the opposite. Hey, I waste gas all the time racing (or used to). I basically said we should balance our waste with conservation. And if we have the money (which Hummer owners often claim they have plenty of), we should have dedicated cars that are practical. Hey, if you need a fast sports car to get to work, more power to you. But I doubt 97% of the miles Hummers see, is off road. It's all about being REALISTIC.

  • ok, i'll finish this up today with a simple question & comment. First, where's the videos showing ANY Hummer (H1-3) doing anything as technical or difficult as those videos I mentioned below? Those vehicles are dirt cheap too. Second, it's just not my opinion about Hummers, it's all the 4x4 magazines & their tests & comparison tests with other vehicles that basically say Hummers are "lumbering elephants". Here's a financial tip for you: sell your Hummer soon!

  • I'm H1 owner. Even if I wasn't - I'll take opinion of 60+ militaries around the globe that use H1 in real off-road situations instead of '4x4 magazine'.

The 4x4 magazines are basically commercial to sell after-market crap to rednecks.

    Get reality check!

  • ok, last post. nice "talking" to you btw. The main gripe most people have is with the H2, & not the H1. H1 has it's purpose, but the H2 as most people point out, just a Tahoe with a different body (Ok, it does have an extra cross member & lockers on the rear). But it's still basically an over-sized, under powered, "lumbering elephant". And that's it for the day. Join in on the drum circle at Venice, and make sure to wear your Hummer t-shirt. You might have fun wrestling with the hippy chicks!

  • Weren't you guys wailing the sky is falling when we were having global cooling (Ice age) in the 80's. hmmmmm. So it's warming now? Made made? How many years of data have you've been sampling. (in how many years of Earth)?

  • I wonder if there were no H2's at all - what else these people be blaming for 'gas crisis' and 'global warming'?

  • Have you seen how skinny and weak the tie rods are on an H2? no wonder they snap all the time when rock crawling.

  • That is besides the fact that most Hummer owners (especially H1) do own other vehicles as well.

  • THE QUICKEST & EASIEST way to end the fuel crisis is the junk gas guzzlers that we don't need. More drilling & refineries won't be online for 10+ years & won't lower gas that much (average .30 cents at best). Do the math: replacing MILLIONS of gas guzzlers with vehicles that get 3-4+ TIMES the mpg's. Or alternative fuel vehicles! The reason why H2's catch so much flack is because they represent American arrogance & waste.

  • note to self: proofread before hitting "send rant"!

    again...

THE QUICKEST & EASIEST way to end the fuel crisis is TO junk gas guzzlers that we don't need.

  • man with a small dick? lolll how about if i surprise your girl friend. with my dick that is bigger than your forearms. poor shits keep dreaming about H1. MOST OF U WILL NEVER HAVE ONE BECAUSE OF YOUR DUMB THINKING.

  • ....6) get you laid. something you obviously wouldn't know about (sorry)

    7) save lives (oh man- do that in your pruis... or on your BIKE! HAHA)
