Love this song! This was the late 70's , and it brought alot of different genres of music. This is an underrated classic! I love the two tone frank sinatra-esque stlye to thier clothes and the simplicity of the video. Good stuff! ^^
I went to see the Specials in Cardiff in the early eighties and Terry Hall gobbed on me head, I was sooo chuffed I ware it like a badge of honnour all through the gig, happy days
@belgianbeatarchive i think, but i'm not 100% sure, that it's a Bird Duplex organ. i have found next to nothing about them though. i love the sound it makes.
this beiber or whatever he is called, never seen him or really heard anything of his but i guess from what i have been told his is for the younger generation unlike myself at 42. good luck if you can make go for it thats what i say.
@gusteroon on the contrary, music was shit then that is how punk happened. the seventies was actually pretty brutal for music save for a few bands and its not like they actually got radio play. big live acts. they still had the shit we do today. but today it seems that even the shit from their time is better.
@dirkshrubb You are right I remember disco duck being number one AND that damn green Orville bird being on TOTP, Ooops upside your head etc etc.
Punk did revolutionise the music back then, ska, mod, rock a billy, electronic music ( Kraftwerk etc) New romantics came about, I know because I lived it.
What is needed now is a modern version of punk or ska or whatever, need to get rid of the manufactured stuff, todays music needs real spontinaety
@TheCrossStitcher I feel the John Butler Trio does a pretty good reggae-influenced style of rock. Feels spontaneous and good to me! (and I had to live through disco too)
the amazing thing about this tune, is that rico rodriguez (trombone player) played on the original recording by dandy livingstone in 1969...i saw rico playing last week with jools holland, for a 78 year old he still got a lot of puff in him, was a wicked show,,,,one love to the man rico :~))
correct or go and F#@k lady GAGA although we all know shes a go damn bloke this songs is completley awsome if it wernt for my loving partner I Would never of got hooked on the Specials or Fun Boy 3
Apparently the white guys had real trouble convincing the black guys to play ska originally, because it was the equivalent of trying to get a white man to play merseybeat.
@lulniet000000 so you dont understand what the Specials stand for . Its the first multicuturel Band and they trie to build a bridge between black and white
@rhyskallen He's talking about dislikes, he basically thinks the song is good, so anyone who doesn't like it should listen to Bieber for life because they don't appreciate good music.
@SergiousTattoo Is that sick as in good or bad? I was in my late teens in 79...lucky me..but now as an old git I`m not entirely sure what that term means anymore.
@sheikhyaboooty That sick is very bad man... i didn´t know how to describe that way of persons click on "dislike". (Sorry, because my english is not enought good)
My six year old boy has loved this song for a couple years, and even loves Ghost Town more. He has a Rude Boy tee he wears to grade 1. 2 tone rocks!! BC/Canada
I wish I was around then.....everyone in the music industry are rubbish today...all crusty cheese with no meaning. :-( I went to one of their gigs the other day and all I can say is..The Specials RULE! World domination!! haha ..amazing is an understatement!! can't describe the feeling in the crowd! Got battered in the mosh pit but I'd do it again in a flash! such fun! :-)
What the fuck, last time i watched this vid like 3 years ago it didnt have that much views. dont tell me the specials are gonna get ruined by hipster fags or something
I was lucky enough to see them on Saturday Night Live around that time doing this song as well as Gangster. They wore black and white and the set was the same, minimalist new wave two tone, plus they had an organ and James Bond like guitar, great vocal harmonies and were unbelievably tight. And it sure was more interesting than late 70s - early 80s J. Geils Band and Asia.
