  • there is also a plugin so tht it works well with gnote or tomboy (I prefer gnote less memory hungry)

  • must have app.

You forgot to show how easy it is to install packages with kupfer.

  • Awesome app, way more productive than Gnome-Do, thank you very much.

  • Awesome. I like your wallpaper - where could I get it? Thanks.

  • What backend does Kupfer use?

  • True, grome do does crash =\

  • Hi. Kupfer is not showing up in the system tray. I am using LM 11 GNOME. Is there another way I can access the Kupfer preferences?

  • I just opened Kupfer and searched for 'kuper preferences'. Done.

  • Love this app. Thanks for telling us about it. A little late to the party i know. lol. How may i ask do you get your kupfer to have your gtk/emerald for the titlebar? All i got is the default stuff. I would like it to be more consistent with my theme.

  • @30belowsummer it came like that with this old version but the newer versions got different themes also so check those out

  • @gotbletu Thanks man. Looks like Ubuntu Software Center still has this version. I love the comma trick. My productivity is so much better now. Again, thanks bud.

  • a really stupid question: how do you access the selected file actions at the 4:58 mark? I have read kupfer homepage too, still can't figure it out lol

I think you were saying type in selected file, which didn't do much on mine.

They have Ctrl+G set as the shortcut for "select selected file", maybe that's what you used in your clip? That didn't work either.

  • @mechhisui highlight a file, then open kupfer and type selected file, it should be the same icon

  • @gotbletu that's odd, somehow mine is registering the keystroke as a simple text string ('selectedfile') like in your brush teeth example; the only action i can take from there is to display that on the screen..

oh well kupfer looks better than synapse without the advanced features anyway, thx for the video!

  • @mechhisui yea i think they changed to hotkey since this video was made, using different hotkey for text and file

  • I personally prefer synapse as my launcher but I will l agree that gnome do is good too

  • How do i get it to stay in one position, say top left? It keeps moving around on my screen, bah

  • Does anyone else notice the how similar this is to Quicksilver for Mac?

  • I've been playing with kupfer since I saw your video a few weeks ago. There is one thing I don't like about it. By default if a I already have a program running it wants to "Go To" it. I would like to make the default "Launch Again". Do you know of a way to change it so it will default to "Launch Again"? I'm sure it can be done, but I've Googled it for a while and havn't found my answer and I was hoping you could help me out.

  • @metalx1000 dont think they got that option at the moment, im still trying to figure out how to label names for the 'Favorities' since it all looks the same. Im sure it will come, the dev reads theses posts from time to time. Or ill tweet him for these features and hope it comes =)

  • Why should i type when i can point a symbol in my dock ?

  • Anyone know how much recourses this application uses? Gnome-do uses roughly 29.4 MB on my system. Trying to figure which will be less of a strain on my ancient Gateway 7330gz.

  • how did u get the menu bar change by itself? like desktop,....application name...

  • @guicapone2 search global menu

  • @gotbletu is it a new thing in ubuntu? like all the unity press images?

  • Yeah I converted to Kupfer from gnome-do, and I agree with u that it's not that good looking but it's really functional, which I dig. I loved Kupfer so much that I made a logo for it and sent it to the developers and looks like they liked it, so in the near future u might see a new logo for Kupfer.

Thanks for the video man :)

  • @designernasser thats tight, yea give them some designs, put some bling on it. loLs

  • Ahhhh u r killing me . i was just stunned with happiness by easy stroke .

now im in love with Kupfer it is very fast and easy to use .Ohh i forgot to say thx for the hard work .

  • @amb1402 yup easystroke and kupfer, a combo happy meal

  • @amb1402 easystroke + kupfer triggers -> could be Abracadabra.. this is good, we should make that happen

  • Wiie, I was going to play cool and composed but screw that; Jippie! My brother created kupfer! I think that is so cool 'cus I know nothing of programing.

  • Your'e the king of linux tuts man!! don't ever delete your youtube page. thanks alot ;)

  • Wonderful review gotbletu! Lots and lots of information clearly explained in a short period of time. You are amazing!

  • Dude, how the hell do you find out all these programs? Just when I think "There is no way he can find anything more useful than he has already!" you prove me wrong. I don't know where you find them or how you do it (And how on earth you learn how to use them all) but keep it up. And don't ever get rid of your YouTube page or I'm screwed : P

  • @nvanadium loL only way my page going down is if it gets hacked or if skynet kills me off

  • I never used QuickSilver on Mac OS X or Gnome Do / Kupfer on any Linux Distribution... I think, using the mouse to navigate through a sorted menu and to click on an application shortcut is way more efficient than using the keyboard for all tasks.

  • @LanHikari90 give it a try, then ull see that click thru the menus is too slow

  • @LanHikari90

The idea is not to have to move your hands to your mouse. So if you're typing and doing work and want to launch another application quickly, can't beat this kind of launcher

  • @ninetynine123 Maybe I'll give it another try. As developer I'm mostly using the keyboard... Does it also let you change the current song of your fav. music player and so on?

  • @LanHikari90 if your favorite music player is Rhythmbox or Audacious, the answer yes, and much more, in a very nice way. Otherwise the answer is: you can set up shell scripts or custom commands and use them as triggers or normal kupfer objects from kupfer. For example, even without the Rhythmbox plugin, you could add a trigger to the command 'rhythmbox-client --next' etc.

  • @englabenny Ahh, this sounds nice. :-) Alright, I will definitely give it a try. Thanks englabenny for all the information.

  • amazing app and wonderful review :)

  • Very good review bro.. keep it up. I like the simplicity of Kupfer. Haven't tried it yet, still runnin gnome-do, but will have to give this a shot.

  • This seems much better than gnome do plus i can use it on kde without having gnome stuff on my computer!!

  • Great! what about memory consumption? does it take less RAM than Gnome-Do?

  • @aweiberjager actually no it uses a bit more, but overall is manage better

  • nice gonna try it out

  • looks cool ill give it a shot
