I'm like really really confused when it comes to this thing about transexual women saying theyre a gay man, or a transexual man saying that theyre a lesbian. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, I'm just having a very hard time to understand it. I could possibly date a transexual man though, I'm a girl :)

Transgender is an "umbrella term" that includes crossdressers and transsexuals and genderqueers, etc. So yes, I consider myself transgender as well as transsexual.

you definitely have a right to fear people's reactions to perceiving you as a lesbian. i'm not encouraging you to lose that fear because it may protect you and your girlfriend as well, but don't be too binded to it...

yes, trying to fit oneself in a society-enforced "box" can be difficult... and hopefully more people could accept the fact that others can just love each other without placing labels.

I think that the fact transfolk dont fit neat little prepackaged labels contributes to our not fitting in to society fluidly. I think Erin is str8er than most my ex girlfriends. If I had to guess, I would say that trannygirl is str8 as well (she will date men primarily after transition). An important distinction between male and female sexuality exist. Men tend to be more rigid in what they are physically attracted to than women are.

Some people don't realize that people treat males and females differently and that there's more to your gender than who you're expected to be attracted to. I mean, a long time ago I thought that males were inherently attracted to females. It followed that since gay guys are attracted to men, they must want to be women since only women can be attracted to men, right? That's probably the same faulty logic that a few of your friends have.
