guys I played a new sd45 212 combo the other day - the ones coming from Peavey now - these things rock. I didn't get a price because it belongs to a friend but he just got it and it is lights out!
Budda amps are nice,I had one one of the early amps that were hand wired and the price was reasonable.
That said they are not competitive in their pricing at all anymore.
There are smaller guys who can give you hand wired amps withe the best components and Mercury Magnetic Iron for less money, and tailored how you want it.
Well, things has happened since you bought yours... Peavey has bought the company now, which means the production will be more streamlined (whatever that may be) and products will be cheaper. Anyway, I´ll hold on to my pre-Peavey Buddas - they sound like I want an amp to sound
...I didn't know that. I suppose they're just cashing in on the name until people stop buying enough of them and then they'll become rebranded Peavey amps, lol.
Well, there are plenty of guys out there making great custom amps so no loss I suppose.
@gitartrond Love your vids, great playing. I just recently purchased a superdrive 18 myself. i do feel the need to make everyone aware that although Peavey owns the company the only thing that they have their hands on is distribution. Budda as a company has not changed and Peavey manufactures none of their amps. They are still handwired and made in the U.S. The only difference is that now these great amps are easier to obtain. Budda is still Budda, i cannot stress this enough.

Hm. That is a matter of taste I'm afraid. Lonestar (the regular one with 2x12") will be a bit more Fender Twin-like in clean mode, and a more "american" distortion sound. The SD-45 will be more like a good old british amp im both modes, with an almost clean sound and a racecar version in "dist-mode". It sounds more like a really good Plexi on steroides. But with a nice low end too.... If you can't afford both, I suggest you make a comparison yourself. Personally, I play Budda as my main amp
Cheers for getting back to me. I played Rivera's for a long time (great amps) but the Budda is something special. I sit my SD30 combo on top of a Rivera K212 Cab and the 3 speakers sound incredible, the mix of open and closed back cabs is special. My only gripe with this amp is the rhythm channel is louder than the lead forcing me to run the rhythm much cleaner than i'd like to. Any ideas without having to do the mod that Jeff emailed me? i like to have the lead at 10 o clock & rhythm at 11-1pm
Yeah, well the single note playing right after 1:15 is definitely lead channel. Congratulations with your Budda. I play the 30 myself - will never swap!
cool. i just got a hot rod deluxe, and everyday, im more and more dissapointed with it. i turn it up to 4 out of 12 and its already breaking up in a farty and trebely way that i hate.
I can only say that after owning great amps for more than 14 years i bought a SD 80 and man i sleep with the thing in my bed, that is how much i love the thing, my gilrfriend on the other hand will hate the thing
Nice playing and great tone. I was thinking about getting a Budda Superdrive 18 and ended up buying one largely based on your video. I use the amp with both Humbucker and single coil guitars. IMO, its more of a Humbucker amp.
Congratulations with your new amp. I simply love those amps. I use a SD-30 myself, a 1x12" combo with an extr 2x12" cab. And I also slave my Budda through a small Mesa/Boogie head which plays through a Mesa Revolver - a rotating speaker... And most of the time I use a Les Paul, but singlecoils will do as well - well, for the cleaner stuff anyway
Great job playing and demo-ing this amp. How good do you think these amps are in terms of noise/hum. I like to use single coils alot so I'd just like to know how bad hum is with these. Thank you.
Well, hum in these amps is no problem. I guess singlecoil pickups will create some hum if exposed to transformers or computer-screen or likewise, but that is caused by the pickup construction, not the amp. Even when distorted pretty much, they are "polite" in terms of hiss and hum. I just love them...
Thanks for the info. The tone of these amps is amazing. If only a 14 year old in my area could find a job........... Looks like I'm stickin with my fender hot rod for a while!
well, this is just something I play "by accident", but it is a variation between E major and A minor and a B. The minor chord I think, is what makes it sound slightly special.....
I've tried a Greenback reissue in my 1x12 Budda Verbmaster (Twinmaster with reverb) which has a very similar basic tone as an SD18. The Phat 12 didn't sound drastically different, but it was fuller in the bass and midrange, not quite as bright perhaps and certainly louder. The Phat 12 is a better match for my amp IMO. It's simply "bigger" sounding.
The Greenback might be good if you're trying to tame the output of the amp a bit while retaining the same basic tone.
Well, to me they are a little easier to handle because of a lower output. They match my other guitars better, so I don't have to adjust my amp when swapping guitars... And they sound slightly more "open" in my ears. But The Burstbuckers will do the job great, too...
sounds great but doesn t sound like a high gaon amp?
divgtrslingr 3 months ago
the sound quality of the video does not do the actual sound of the amp justice.

What do you think about the Phat 12 ?
Compare with the vintage 30 or a Greenback ?
Slayerman256 4 years ago
Like both other speakers too, but still - and especially in the Budda - the Phat 12 is my favorite...
gitartrond 4 years ago
Sounds great.
