@masterj345 we lost Vietnam, correct, never a military defeat but political. We lost Vietnam because of Nixon. Watergate was the reason. If watergate hadn't happened or been discovered, Nixon would have been in office when the North vietamese violated the treaties. He would have sent the B-52's back in. Because of Kissinger, no "trip wire" troops were left as in Korea. This was a mistake as was having Kissinger as chief negotiator. Nixon should have mined haifong harbor in 1969..

@1IIIIIIIIII1 there were intense battles true, but never a defeat above the company leve. It was the NVA that regular got its asssed kicked. After tet the viet cong werent much a factor.. Mining the harbor in 72 helped but the Christmas bombing campaign, which Curtis LeMay wanted to do in 1965 brought the North Vietamese to a treaty. I would have mined the harbors in 65 and massively bombed Hanoi by 67, the Chinese and Russians be damned..

Like the american revolution against britain. Vietnam was a stupid thing to get into in a military way. After kennedy murdered diem, they never had much going on there in the south anymore. Why would a civil war in a tiny place like nam be of any concern to america? and again in afganistan we have it again

Maybe Kennedy would have pulled out the advisors. The American revolution and civil war ended just 60 miles either way of where I sit. The British weren't so much worn down as they made a mistake gettting trappped at Yorktown like the French at Bien. Afganistan is a necessary war and if you can't see that..end of discussion..

I always have been fascinated with Nixon. Not in a good way. Like the way Hitler and Stalin are interesting. These tapes are one good thing he did. Gives insight into the American Presidency. You have to admire Nixon in a way, he came from humble beginnings unlike the priviledged Kennedys.

Meritis, you make it sound like he personally ordered their deaths. How can you personally blame him for what nervous, young national guardsmen did? One of the reasons for Nixon's midnight trip to the Lincoln Memorial was because of his shock and anxiety over the killings. Even in this conversation, he clearly says he doesn't think the students themselves should be blamed for their actions protesting the war.

What these tapes prove, and I don't mean this tape or other but all of them taken together, they prove that there are no such things as great conspiracies, Roswell, 9/11, whatever.
