She talks just like me! I am from Ann Arbor. Love those soft vowels--my ex called it "vowel smashing." "You guys" is a give away. I do say root differently though. Love that "knaaaahhb" for door knob. "Ahn" for "on."
Born in Grand Rapids, raised in Coldwater. People have said I have a Michigan accent and I say "bollocks". I don't think we have a distinctive accent.
I have been living in Simi Valley CA since 1980, but I grew up in Niles, Michigan up to the age of twenty. I never knew I had an accent until my acting teacher in California called me on it. I was reading Shakespeare and trying to sound all English or whatever, and he said, "Jon... stop using those big Michigan O's"! I never told him where I was from, but he (Frank Roach) nailed it! So... I have an accent! Cool...
I am also from Michigan - a small town between Lansing and Grand Rapids. I moved to Florida 5 years ago and was told CONSTANTLY that I talked funny and sounded Canadian. I think that rural west MI and east MI is are a little bit different but basically similar. I miss my accent :( I still have it, its just much weaker now. I <3 Tennashoes!
Funny thing is (at least for me, not being a native speaker): You're way of pronouncing words is pretty damn similar to how I've been taught to speak English in German schools. At least in the south west of Germany, where I live. Yeah, I realize this isn't exactly helping your matter, but I thought I'd through it out there. By the way: I understand the way you talk perfectly fine, whereas I've got my difficulties understanding, oh I don't know, southern U.S. accents for example. Oh, and Boston.
MAN-aze is the most glaring to my ear. I say three syllables, almost like may-uh-nez (not exaggerated, though). Pop is very colloquial and sounds hokey (no offense) to people from other parts of the country.
you sound normal to me but im from la, California so accents are all over the place maybe that's it. i did notice that you don't accents words as heavily and its all proper English
I'm from Roseville, Michigan (30 mins from Detroit) you kinda have an accent. Everyone who lives in my area likes to slur their words including me lol.
You sound normal to me. But then again I'm from Howell Mi.too.I moved to Fargo ND two years ago. Boy do N.Dakotans have an accent.Very much like Yoopers. Man do I get the ribbing that I have an accent.Accents and dialects have always fasinated me. You did a nice job on this vidieo
Another way to describe a Michigan accent is someone who speaks English properly and without an accent. The Michigan way is the right way, and every one else can suuuuck it.
I was born and raised in NY but now living in VA but in NY and VA we say cupon as if its spelled Qupon, the way you said it sounds more like Coopon....lol Here in New York State we call pop...soda. In NY we say Shopping Cart but here in VA they call it a Buggie in stead of shopping cart. Every state has there own accent, like NY has both mid western and new england combo, NYC has there own accent, people for MI and the midwest talk faster then we do here in VA or in my home state of NY.
Cool video. I'm from Grand Rapids but living in DC and I get the Canadian thing from time to time. I feel like I'm losing it quickly though and it makes me sad!
Heyy, im from Howell too!((:

I'm from MI as well and recently moved to Chicago and here are things I've been called out on:
Saying "Bolth" instead of "Both" <People bring this up ALL of the time
Running words together, such as "Gonna" "Hafta" "Tennashoes" "Howzitgoin"
Throwing "E" sounds in like when I say "can't" "Faygo"
