  • Those shirts are never gonna be available again?! Nooooooooooooo!

  • I was at least if not more frustrated by the BP fail of fail-dom as you were Hank. Mostly because BP isn't the only company with drill drilling at that depth in the gulf. But also because they ARE STILL DRILLING in spite of the painfully transparent evidence that this DOES NOT WORK. ARGH!!! *FACEDESK* People can be stupid sometimes....

  • Damn that shirt is cool. I want it.

  • @VRambo2 Thou art a impertinent hedge-born varlot

  • @VRambo2 I know you are. :)

  • In soviet Russia, oil wastes you!

  • Yes, I still go to school. Hmmm.

  • OKay for the school question I totally met another nerdfighter who was wearing the shirt Hank showed and I looked at her and saw her shirt and lierally screamed "OH MY GOD!" to my best friend and they both looked really freaked out so I just pointed to her shirt and said. "I like your shirt."

and then of course we spent the next couple of minutes conversing about pre-ordering A Fault In Our Starts and things like that.....

  • if it's just oil and not nuclear power :(

  • @vlogbrothers also i dont own MW2

  • @vlogbrothers ive read the harry potter series and if u dont believe me snape kills Dumbledore and Dumbledore planned it so no 1 can get the elder wand i do read books and my brother read the series 2 now im reading the Halo series sooooo ya

  • @Shotgun304 i didnt write this my bro did i left it on srry pple

  • um i am in school.., what can i say? It insn't hogwarts... it is a concrete box

  • of course the Gulf of Mexico doesn't belong to BP. it doesn't even belong to the people who live near there. as Tom Chapin once said in a song of his, "It was not given to you by your parents/It was loaned to you by your children."

  • ...Does that t-shirt still exist?! *runs off*

  • Viva NERDFIGHTERS!!!

  • FUCK THE TEAPARTY

  • I wish I could just add a sentence, or clause even, to your video; a a corporation not only will they but it has to. They are not people but machines that will consistently act in the way most profitable for itself and this is because it has to. It's exactly the reason they are the big corporations. And that is exactly why the government needs to regulate corporations.

  • you are very cute and passionate and panicked but c'mon - are we REALLY dependent on oil? REALLY? our present system is 'oil dependent' - because we have designed everything to use oil - but LIFE is not 'oil dependent'... there are many more efficient, reliable, cheaper, more readily available energies than oil. we could use solar, water, magnetics and even live more locally - people did for many, many years. be creative. take your audience higher. make a constructive contribution.

    "STOP THE OIL INDUSTRY "

IT'S TIME TOO WAKE UP TO OUR REALITY

  • I own that shirt! SO happy, my best friend got it for my birthday. She also positive pranked me and left taffy on my doorstep. My friends are 100% made of awesome. Now I have no idea what to do for her birthday...

  • It's like the Titanic of oil spills. Bad decisions and bad consequences.

  • We should stop using oil... i don't mean alternative fuel i mean alternative TRANSPORTATION!

  • Actually, we WILL run out of oil eventually. Oil is a fossil fuel, and it took millions of years form, therefore it would take another million years for dead plants/animal matter/fungi/whatnot to seep into the ground and... liquify itself. So, if we were to actually run out of oil, we wouldn't necessarily DIE, life would just be 10 times harder. We would have to go back to the Indian ways.

  • does hank have a puff

  • 10000m is still easy oil, you clearly don't understand the oil industry, it's very easy to criticise but it's one of the safest industries today, and the environmental precautions in place are extremely good, considering what they are dealing with and the conditions of which they are working the oil industry doesn't deserve some twat on YouTube that's never set foot on a oil facility deciding how thins should be run, it is regulated and the us is the second most strict in terms of safety only t

  • @caledonia112 Oh yes the precautions are good and that is why oil is now ruining a beautiful environment. Totally.

If you don't like vlogbrothers then don't watch them, if you do not agree then please say it in a better manner instead of calling names like a little kid.

  • @caledonia112 BTW, Hank runs EcoGeek, one of the biggest environmental blogs EVER! And my I kindly ask you, and I mean kindly because that's the kind of person I am, if you work for an oil industry corporation or something? That's not a bad thing, it's not a bad thing to express your opinion either. But people with different opinions have very nicely replied to you, expressing theirs. Everybody's had their share, thank you. Let's get back to other things. I hate Comment War, really. It's stupid.

  • @steponabananaskin you are stupidly ignorant to believe regulations were not in place for the cement and mud weight in drilling a well before this incident.

  • Clearly has no idea about the oil industry and the safety systems in place, don't talk about something you know nothing about. And we are still on the easy oil!

  • why all the failsafes were not safe during the fail. LOL!

  • regulations, but because of the safety of assets and lives. I am a conservationist also, and probably spend one hundred percent more of my time in our outside environment than you do, in both work and recreation. You know not many things about how an oil rig or platform works, so leave it to the companies and employees to decide on regulations. And as long as you want to keep communicatin on this network and computer, you will want to keep drilling and consuming oil.

  • Another typical IGNORANT ass liberal. Whoever you are sir in this video, why do not you come to work on an oil platform and see how we as a company run our business as safely as possible, and learn from mistakes such as BPs. In every industry, everyday new safety procedures are put in place because of an accident, whether it be Walmart or an oil company. Yes BP cut corners, and paid for it. But I can guarantee another oil company will not make this same mistake, not because of governmental

  • I, for one, like when Hank gets on his soapbox.

I'm currently back in school for the... third time. Getting a teaching license. It's got its highs and its lows.

  • You know I love you, Hank, but I think you're a little bit off here. So long as there is a demand, somebody's going to be drilling in risky areas. Whether that's a risky area off the coast of Mexico or Nigeria. Who do you trust to drill more effectively on most occasions? The States or the Nigerians? Who do you want to buy your risky oil from? Because the question of its existence really doesn't matter.

  • My mom never finished school, she dropped out of grade 10. She went back when I was 5 and now she's a pretty succesful teacher and I look up to her for being able to do it while raising two kids pretty much on her own.

  • I would actually love to go back to school. But I'm scared of 2things. The debt and the possibility of finding work to pay for that debt after graduation.

  • hey the link to the shirts don't work!!! meeeehhh

i recently switched schools.. from a neighborhood catholic school to the best middle school in the state. i was worried, but since then i have met a nerdfighter who is now a close friend, and seen 2 boys in the hall wearing nerdfighter shirts. i think i'm in the right place.

  • Think of all the oil used in the machinary to process that trees that were killed to make all those books behind you... hummmm

My guess is those black frame glasses yur wearing are a composite of oil by product, and certianly the equipment used to make them used oil.

Lot's oil used to make the pc and web cam used to make yur video, and the massive network to afford it's transmission to all the viewers.

  • @afewdaysleft you clearly didnt watch the video, he wasn't arguing that we shouldnt use oil, he was saying that oil companys should not be self regulated

  • Sigh. I've decided to do an argument paper on government regulation of offshore drilling. So I decided to watch this again. Also sources are pretty hard to find. So, if anybody who reads this knows of any really good sources for this topic, you should message them to me.

And I feel like this comment is a bit strange but I'm tired so I don't feel an obligation to make this at all readable.

  • I don't like to talk about environmental issues either for the same reason, it makes me angry. Which leads to your end of video questions. So speaking of environment it is ironic that I am going to school in Hong Kong, and I'm surrounded by awesome Asian culture -- which has that famous booming population -- which fails even the basics: recycling.

  • Hey, I have one of those Obi-Wan figures! :D

  • I am hating school with a burning passion of hatred and hate and all tthing non-loving

But someehow I am not failing 0.0

  • Why did you tell them that we were never going to run out of oil? Your supposed to tell them the opposite so that they start looking for alternatives. You drop the ball on that one. Just kidding.

  • The laugh Hank makes when he says the word 'mad' has the most terrifying ring to it, as if that is the moment he was pushed over the edge. Anyone can fake gritting their teeth and shaking their fists, but that laugh is hard to emulate if you aren't actually angry.

  • Hank i completely agree with you! We went there a little while after it happened, and in the worse parts, my family was awestruck. I dropped ny sunglasses in the water where a thick oil layer was, and they stayed. It has become such a thick layer that it takes so much weight and strength to puncture it and it makes me want to shoot myself in thw face because now these animals that have made a home there are now trying to quickly leave and adapt somewhere else and its horrible

  • Does anyone know when the Vlogbrothers shirt ship?

  • Hey, I ordered one of the shirts and I was wondering when it was going to ship? Any news on the shirts? It seems like they've fallen off the face of the planet... even the link doesn't work anymore. Please help me?

  • I was just wondering when the vlogbrothers shirts are supposed to come in because I ordered mine right when they came out, and I knew it would take a while, but I was just wondering how long a while is...

  • The School's going... great! (personal thought cloud).

  • I wouldn't die. I have several fallback plans.

  • It's good that you didn't use the fact that it was BRITISH petroleum as a point.

Damn us colonial British and our tea-drinking, filthy oil spill ways!

  • you sound like trevor moore! ILY! we listen to you in singapore

  • actually, i like school.

but unfortunately, tests don't like me.

    XD

btw love all these current events videos.

you guys make some great points.

  • ... we could just make Oil companies liable for the cleanup costs and stop subsidizing oil. The problem with the Horizon was that the regulators capped liability and pulled out all the regulatory stops for BP, since they were going to "get a cut" of the profit. BP was careless because they were told they wouldn't be liable for mishaps.

The market can regulate itself with the help of the civil courts.

  • ah im turning 30 in a week , i idnt finish college and i hated school always for every reason ... i regret hating it ... but i do hate school , out side of school i read book after book , i learned how to play instruments and tought my self html and php, im actually doing nano this year so im definately a nerd but me and school just dont mix

  • Is that a Spike Spiegel figurine in the background?

    Where can I get that?!

  • excellent video. hank, you have a huge amount of young people listening to you every day and while that is an intimidating power, and one that i know you are wary of its potential abuse, i would see it as a gift or even a responsibility to expose these truths that your listeners rarely have revealed to them nor do they pursue them on their own but might after getting a taste. they get so much crap from everywhere else, and before you know it they are spouting crap, too.

  • GAH! I wanted a t-shirt. NOW I'M SUPER DUPER ANGRY D:

  • That was great. Loved it! :>)

  • It's school. I don't think u even need to ask the question.

  • I wish there wasn't any oil becuase we would simply switch to a hemp based oil (which is very eco-friendly) and put big corporations that run our government out of business.

  • My god you do the arm thing when you talk about stuff. so do i :P awesome!

  • "not safe durring the fail!" XD

  • Bahahaha. School is going okay. We just finished studying binary code. I felt quite nerdy, as I already knew how to do it and it''s not even on the curicculum. ANd then I amazed myself because I made all A's in my classes because I really wasn't expecting that because I've never been great at school. And then I flunked 2 different tests. :'C

Also, on another completly random streak, I learned some Finnish over the summer, and half the kids here don't beleive that it's a real lanugage. :T

  • I did! It's great. Second day there and I met some upperclassmen nerdfighters. All I heard was "..nerdfighters," and I yelled, "Hank and John!" They saluted me; it was epic. Also, one was a boy and the other a girl, and they met because of nerdfighers. And, they're going out now. Nerd love <3.

  • @animestarlight09 Hold on a second ... have I found another APH fan? EEK! I keep finding them in the randomest of places ....

  • @Moonlightkitteh101 Haha, I AM THE HERO! *eats a hamburger* Pasta~

  • Omgp, Sandman collection and Watchmen. I <3 you. Also, great vlog. X3

  • Why thank you for asking, Hank! I switched to all the Accelerated classes this year, and they are SOOO EASY. Sometimes it sucks being a nerd.

  • I'm still not sure you got through to me on why we won't run out of oil.

  • Self regulation has to be balanced by risk. To prevent them from doing stupid things that risk sensitive environments you have to make the consiquences of damaging the environment higher.

For example the machine industry generally uses machines which greatly exceed the regulatory requirements for safety, why? Because the risk is too great. The legal cost as a result of hurting or killing someone is so terrifying that they don't need to be regulated into doing it

  • @goclick I'm not saying that's the best solution I'm just saying that's the theory.

  • my school sucks. i'm doing an extra year ontop because i moved countries. on the good side i'm getting extra grades on the bad side my mates in that country are all at uni.

  • Yes I'm still in school.. I went back a year after getting my B.S. and not being able to pay my student loans.. soo back to school.. hows it going? lets just say I'm looking for a better job!

  • In answer to your unrelated question, I'm NOT still in school, but I HAVE gone back. To break that done for you a tad, I've already graduated, but I'm doing an exchange program in Belgium for a year and I'm going to school here. Again. Even though I already graduated. Awesome fun.

  • School's going pretty all right with me. I mean, I've kind of had a couple mishaps in math class (the teacher had my older brother, and now has "big expectations" for me, but those expectations... I don't know how to meet them). But I did draw a picture of a giraffe on a quiz I had in said class! So, besides that, back-to-school time is a-okay!

  • school is great! i'm on the powderpuff team this year and it's so exciting and fun. (powderpuff is a game where it's senior vs. junior girls playing football against each other and it's a homecoming event-type-thing. i'm a senior, so we better win!!)

in related news: do you think we should start looking at alternatives of oil to use, or take those risks? which do you think would be better or safer, and faster? i'm curious what you think about all this :3

  • I like my Gulf the way it is with all the prettiness and nature but most people just want the precious oil under it. Florida depends on it's tourist industry so that's why my state voted against drilling in the Gulf but it was inevitable. I'm sure the tourists will still come when the beaches are black and foul. *Sigh*

  • I have gone back to school...IT SUCKS.

  • I like hank better than john (the videos)

  • i have gone back indeed, it's good...

  • i just bought a shirt... I think

  • I will never go to school aggaaaaaainn. Sadness, sadness. But, there is a time for everything, I suppose.

  • come over here to Brunei where oil is 15USD for a full tank :8)

  • Or you could make Hemp Oil.

  • @M00k64

Well I didn't want to get too far into it. I encourage you to research on American Apparel, but basically it's a sweatshop that takes advantage of Hispanic immigrants. The owner tries to cloud this by offering many great benefits to his employees, but essentially they can't use the restroom, they slave over the products at outrageous speeds. Its really sad. I can't say it all in one comment. Check it out! =]

  • Someone has a mac....

  • Hey Hank, would you like me to feature this video or another video of yours with some importance so that we can try and get the message across to people about things that really matter?

It was just an idea that came to me that's all

Hope to hear from you, and thanks for taking the time to read my comment

  • Thanks for trying to stay positive. It is easy to blame someone else for everything.

  • I have to laugh. At 36 I am indeed still in school BECAUSE I went back. If everything goes near to plan, I will finish my first bachelor's degree this winter, and finish my second bachelor's degree in the spring! =)

  • I just entered my senior year in high school, and I'm already stressed out XD

There's just so much to do! Applying to colleges, and my AP classes, and then I'm taking some theatre classes which aren't stressful at all.

I have a question. Is it better to go to a really good college where you will probably be happy, or a decently good college where you know you will be happy?

  • @BlackAndBlueStripes Honestly, you probably don't want to jump straight into college. I don't know where you live but where I am there are no jobs willing to hire ANYONE that has either, entered or finished college. But I believe it would be more effect to go to a colllege where you will be happy. Don't let things like family and sports effect your choice. The bottom line is it's YOUR life and if you don't pick whats you think is the best, you'll probably end up miserible. Stupid small posts.

  • Whats up with the Lip Balm in the back Hank? Ever gonna open it? :P

  • Um, yes I'm at colllege right now. It's giogn great and I love all of my teachers!!

    (but there are no NERDS!!!o)

  • I dont support American Apparel. Shame on you vlogbrothers

  • @purplesomeone What's wrong with American Apparel?

  • 1. I'm to poor for a vlogblothers shirt :-( that sucks 2. bad political party, someone send them back to senior government class and 3. I just started a personal project in which I will watch every vlogbrothers video from the beginning again, just for the fun of it...wish me luck, DFTBA

  • Wait... Microsoft made a phone?

  • Unrelated Question Response: Yes back in school, Been back for a month and still have perfect scores in Chemistry and Geometry! X3

P.S. Do you think I would get arrested if I 'accidentally' cause a explosion/fire in the chemistry lab and it 'accidentally' kill most of my classmates? Because there annoying and I've about had it with them. Help please?

  • Unrelated Question: Yes, I am back in school, and it's awesome. This is the first year of my life I can remember ever actually LIKING school. |:

  • i've been back in school for almost a month.

i don't know how i'm a senior in college, but somehow this is my fourth year and i'm starting to research pablo neruda for my senior paper. holy crap. (also, holy crap i love pablo.)

DFTBA to all the college students watching vlogbrothers!

  • I Am Still In School

    And I Have Gone Back

It's Really Fun To Be In School Again. Other Then The Fact That I'm A Freshman In High School..

  • I don't think we are going to use oil for ever because there are companies making cars and power systems that dont need any. Like most tech. it will probably get cheaper in time and more people will buy it becuase noone likes paying for gas and unless the government decides that the oil industry is "too big to fail" like crappy American cars, then oil will be used less and less. If the big oil companys want to stay in buisness they will invest in diffrent energy scorces besides oil. :D

  • <3 <3 <3 I love you.

And I'm going to have a Vlogbrothers shirt, because I love you guys and want to proclaim it across my chest, the part of my body that people look at the most, but I'm going to have to make it myself because I am too broke to give money to you guys. I'm sorry.

    <3 <3 <3

  • The school started on Monday, and we want for three days and then we had a break. :D Because it was a holiday, Bajram (Eid ul-Fitr) I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We celebrate all holidays,so every now and then we don't go to school for a couple of days.

  • I went back to school and it went well! I dont have a car so its not that much my fault! Im 13 dont bag on me!~

  • To answer your unrelated question... I've just gone back to school - kinda. Same place, but I'm in 6th form now, and they've changed a lot since last year - like we have a baffling two-week timetable now... But it's going pretty well thanks :)

  • Must've been one of my favorite videos of yours, Hank! I'd love to hear more of what you think on the subject as this is an extremely worrisome business (not just the explosion but all environment problems). Besides, considering the number of people who watch these videos, I think you'd actually be able to help change some mentalities and help those who think like you to change that of those who don't act green at all. Just a thought ^^

  • This might be the quickest four minutes that have ever passed in a vlogbrothers video for me. I felt like we were just getting started on a deep and interesting discussion and then all of a sudden it was over. I'd really love to hear more of this from you, like what direction you feel needs to be taken in the future, or what could potentially replace oil, or even just more on regulation.

  • It's alright. Nice shirt.

  • The reason oil companies have to go so far out to drill is because of "regulations" that keep them from drilling close to the coast because it would damage the ecosystem there. Oil companies can't win no matter what because no matter what they do, everyone hates them.

  • @SaphireCatElf, well, that's a good reason to switch over to hemp instead of oil, isn't it? You can produce fuel that is just as powerful as oil, with NO toxic waste or emissions, and it is constantly renewable. Not only that, we don't need to modify our cars at all to do it! Hemp could replace the entire oil and lumber industry which both are doing nothing but hurting our planet. It would take a decade or two but we could do it. That's why it's important to legalize industrial hemp.

  • @hoboboxerjoe

    " legalize industrial hemp."

Ooh dear I had no idea it was illegal in the US, that's just madness.

Does it cover growing or is having something made from help illegal to?

  • @Pook365

Just growing, and manufacturing. And probably other things, too. There's plenty of hemp rope, jewelry, etc in the US, it's just all imported. wtf.

  • @themightykhan84

    Oh dear, that's just crazy!

  • @Pook365, oh, and yeah, we can't grow it here. But it is legal to have hemp clothing, and lotion, etc. I've seen that stuff at Wal-Mart, which I've boycotted now.

It's really weird how the system is set up here. But if you look into it with a neutral eye (as much as one can) you will see why key people in the government and who influence governing policy would not want to have prohibition lifted. When the criminals and dealers don't want weed to be legal you should start to wonder...y'know?

  • @hoboboxerjoe

Well the whole war on drugs is just futile and well kind of childish. Sure we don't want people to inject them selves with heroin or get off their faces on meth...but being illigal hasn't worked all it's done is create a massive amount of secondary crime.

I don't see how that can not be obviouse to anyone, so as you said it is rather suspicious.

Really even if they were giving heroin away I can't imagine that would increase it's usuage much...

  • @Pook365 One thing to take note on is the US War on Drugs has affected policy in Europe and Australia. Also one thing I'd like to mention is the Prime Minister of the Netherlands said that "WE succedded in making drugs boring" through a system of decriminalizing drugs, providing housing for addicts, and drugs in safe clinics with government-made heroin. Crime has dropped significantly there, and teen drug usage as well. Teens there now look on it as a thing to pity (heroin+crack users)

  • @Pook365, in fact if you smoke too much pot or drink too much or even smoke too much tobacco you're known as a junkie quite commonly there. The U.S doesn't want the war on drugs to end. I want people who doubt me to take a look at how proud the Drug Czars have been of their increase in budgets yearly. There are more drugs than ever in the U.S, and we spend more of our money than ever on it. The criminals like this, big buisness likes this, how could people not see this?

  • @Pook365, think of how much Big Pharm, and the drug-testing companies would loose. Most drugs are out of your system in days. But Marijuana takes weeks to get out of your system. So it really is the main reason they use drug testing in corporations and government jobs. Imagine how much money they'd lose if hemp were legal? Anti-depressents, chemo-meds (which I just got off of, Cancer-free since last week :DD) for appetite, etc. Medicinal marijuana saved my life. And I give my word on that.

  • @hoboboxerjoe

It is just stupid that medical marijuana is still not availlable in lots of places it's proves time and time again to be far better than the legal alternatives, especially as you have found out in fighting the side effects of chemo.

    Awesome to hear you're well....DFTBA :)

  • @Pook365, that's also not counting the tremendous benefits it has to cadasil and seizure patients, as well as MS and hepatitis C, and glycoma (Sorry about the mis-spells).

They are finding new functions for it alllll the time. And it has proven to do almost no damage to your lungs or throat, unless you are constantly smoking. And even then it's only heated plant-matter affecting your cilia in your lungs. Marijuana has shown to reduce cancer cell growth and leave healthy cells alive!

  • @SaphireCatElf, PS: Industrial hemp has no THC content and barely produces any buds.

Now, medical marijuana that is a whole different story. You can get the same usage from the stocks, but even more from the buds. It literally is a miracle plant. The seeds sustain entire villages because it has almost everything you need in them. A flower that you can eat, use for fuel, and produce over 5,000 textiles (including chasis and bodies for cars, space shuttles, and airplanes!). These are all facts.

  • @hoboboxerjoe

Hemp grown for manufacturing has very little THC rather than none.

  • @Pook365, they've actually designed hemp over in Europe that has no THC whatsoever. I'd recommend watching "The Union: The Buisness of Getting High" as a starting point for further research into the entire war on marijuana and how much it is affecting everything in our country.

  • @hoboboxerjoe

I'm in the UK so it dosn't directly affect me, but I'll se if I can fin the documentary anyway...should be intresting.

I'm very suprised to hear they've managed to make it THC free, very impressive.

  • @SaphireCatElf, If you're asking why it isn't legal then, well. Go back and check the history of it from 1900-1938. Randal Hearst and Henry Anslinger actively campaigned to make this plant illegal. Burgeoning lumber, oil, and textile industries would have had to change their entire operation to switch to hemp. Doable, but expensive. So just to save some money 75 years ago, they decided to do this. And the public has been manipulated ever since. Now we are finally clearing the fog of deceit

  • @SaphireCatElf

I'm sure they have to cry them selves to sleep at night knowing no one likes them.....They probably fee much better in the morning after a quick swim through their piles of gold.

    :P

  • I'm back at school, at it's much the same as it was when I left it.

  • You fuck.... your computer is made out of oil!!!!

  • @ingvarrunar

While there is of course some oil used for the plastic parts, the majority of a computer is not made of oil.

Also they tend to last quite a while, so while the plastic being made from oil is bad...surely it has to be better than just setting fire to it?

  • Hey look! I'm saying something political! Why? Because it matters to me. Does it matter to you? I don't know, but I'm saying it, because I feel as though it needs to be said.

That's the main part of the latter part of this video is about. Is it a bad thing? No. It's a wonderful thing when someone expresses themself like this, especially when it can easily be viewed by millions of people all around the world.

  • LOL all the excellent fail-safe systems were not safe during the fail XDDDD

  • i've gone back to school and it is good to see people again!

  • Back to school, my first week just finished, and I'm already being bullied -.-

I have been for as long as I can remember, so I don't really care anymore.

I'm just glad that I have good friends to help me through it :)

  • omg I love environmental blame rants! THERE'S NOT ENOUGH OF THEM! & thumbs up for making preposterous statements. My professor would give you a preposterous thumbs up. :3

  • Ive never met a single person that wants the environment to go to the crapper.Environmentalist caused them to drill dangerously.

There is an organism that is eating the oil plumes in the gulf. And reallly? Big government? Are you socialist?

  • Ive never met a single person that wants the environment to go to the crapper.

  • School here (here is Greece) starts on monday...So we have summer vacation!! YAY!

  • Hank!

I know I am late answering your question. But yes, I have started school back. SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL FTW!!! <3

It's going pretty fantastically. However, I will say that my AP classes are kicking my face in pretty hardcore right about now. :/

  • Ending 4th week back at school. So far I like my classes more, but it's a lot more work, and it's work where you have to work ahead, or else. I need to get better at not procrastinating.

  • nice 80s hair cut-this is random* plus it was in open waters and a british company u cant own the ocean and the british only obey the queen thats their prez

  • im new to this channel lol and did he just call me JOHN.? why pls someone explain that to me ..? lol

  • @kefindifidofo The channel is vlog brothers cause there are two brothers sending videos to each other. This video is Hank sending his brother John a video. You should go to their channel and check out the video that explains nerdfighting. Its an intro to their videos.

  • @kefindifidofo he's addressing his brother, John, the other Vlogbrother. John addresses all of his video to Hank (that guy up there). Check out their channel, these guys are awesome!

  • @kefindifidofo That's because these vlogbrothers adress eachother in their blogs. Hank didn't just call YOU John. He called John John.

Unrelated: Tshirt is cool.. wee bit too much of a shipping risk right now, but I might just get one anyway.

More unrelated: University is going great, Dutch student doing English major back in action! Now if you'll excuse me, I got Dr. Faustus to read... :P

  • @kefindifidofo He is talking to the other half of the vlog"brothers", and not just to you.

  • @kefindifidofo haha, I don't know whether someone has already explained it to you, but this channel was originally made for the two brothers who live seperate lives, to communicate with one another. Thus, hey john, and john says, hey hank. Of course, the channel was immensely popular and people watch their conversations with each other.

  • @kefindifidofo

It's primarily between two brothers, his brother is John, and he is Frank.

  • Lol...uhhh... its Hank

  • @kefindifidofo haha, that's what i thought the first time i ever saw a vlogbros video! (you will become addicted. i have been for the past year) lol

  • @kefindifidofo he was not talking to u he is talking to his brother they post vids back and forth, thats the main idea anyway =D

  • @kefindifidofo John is his brother that He does this with. Hank and john contact eachother through this vlogging thing and we love it. So dont' worry, unless yoru name is john XD

  • @kefindifidofo

vlogbrothers started out as a way for two brothers (hank, the one in this video, and john, the one in other videos) to commuicate. hank is talking to john, his brother. if hank were to refer to you, he would probably call you a nerdfighter (the word for followers of hank and john).

  • @kefindifidofo The man in the video is Hank Green. He and his brother, John Green communicate with each other via video blogging. At the end they always tell the other brother that they will see them on a certain day. At the end Hank was saying good-bye to John.

Welcome to nerdfighteria! You have to keep watching to find out what that is. :)

  • @kefindifidofo he's talking to his brother (john) but u know that by now.

  • @kefindifidofo

    best comment ever

  • @kefindifidofo He's addressing this video to his brother, a thing he always does, the author John Green.

    When it's John's videos he'll call you Hank. =)

  • @kefindifidofo They're called vlogbrothers because they're 2 brothers that share a channel. They send videos back and forth through YouTube for everyone to see because they're awesome and they know it.

  • @kefindifidofo i am lol-ing. john is hank's brother and they make vlogs back and forth to each other every monday, wednesday, and friday. (right? those are the days??)

  • Tomorrow's my last day of my first week of being back at school. I wish it was still summer but school's not that bad. It's really just the homework that sucks :( Also the pressure of trying to get good marks for university.

  • someone really needs to invent teleportation soon. then we will have no need for oil. thumbs up if your agree

  • Back at school, its challenging and interesting, but I'm still in "summer mode" and I don't want to leave just yet so it makes studying really, really hard!

By the way, am majoring in Environmental Science, if I can't find a job could I come work for you at ecogeek? Just saying...

P.S. I am a new subscriber, and I love your videos. You both are incredibly smart/funny, and I'm very glad I discovered your videos. Keep it up. You are both AWESOME!!!

  • School is going good....but man do I hate stupid classes where we have to do grazy math questions and essays the class after the stupid thing is assigned....stupid. XD

  • its called the B.P. oil spill, not the fuckin deep penetration blah blah, and we grew up with cars so its hard to stray away in our society. *B.P.* THEY. ARE. RESPONSIBLE. Sarah Palin: drill baby drill!... now she dosent say shit, except for when she found out bp fucked up.

  • What you miss is that we ALL do the same thing every day (make risk based decisions). For example, driving to work. You could get killed driving to work today. But you make a decision. And part of that decision is founded on the premise that you are taking steps to minimize the risks (well maintained car, good safety equipment, other drivers will follow the law, etc). Companies do the same thing. BP didn't consciously decide one day that they would say "screw it" and just do whatever it took.

  • pausing the video early to say that your initial assessment, while wonderfully shocking and provocative, is totally ridiculous. if all the oil disappeared, we would not die. we lived for centuries without it, and we would live for centuries to come if it all disappeared suddenly. would it suck? yes. would we all die? no. absolutely not.
