@ronaldvanderkleij in de zeventiger jaren was het vanzelfsprekend dat Genesis in het voorprogramma van Earth&Fire speelden, E.A was een briljante geniale progrockband en zoals je weet waren ze life niet te evenaren...memories...
I can't help but thinkin' about the Peter Gabriel connection when still playing with Genesis. The Musical Box comes to mind. All the early Earth & Fire is clearly influenced by this period of Genesis.
Heb je dan ook nog even Focus geluisterd met Hocus Pocus???? Als je deze song hebt gehad en dan nog even Earth and Fire met Memories of Storm and Thunder dan is je dag weer goed!
The beginning really sounds like an approaching thunderstorm.. so ominous and dramatic. Together with Memories I think these are the greatest songs of Earh and Fire.
I love all the rock and progressive giants, but this small curiosity band has few pieces that are my all time favourites. This is maybe their best song. Brilliant.
Yeah, that wasn't on the tape, but ended up in the file I grabbed of the clip. Couldn't be bothered to go back and start all again as I had disconnected the VCR by then.
This was our dutch music scene at its best, although it's way before my time, this music was certainly ahead of its time.
Recently I was at the recording studio where most of this music was recorded. Unbelievable, but the vibe still is in the air there. The rhodes and hammond are both still working, but in awful condition.
Sorry for Sigur Ros, and I do like them, but "ambient sounds" and running naked over the highway is not a signa las strong - maybe as much freedom-giving anno 2009 to the youngsters that make the future anyway and let NOBODY TRY try to MIS-TURN that yeah!!!- than hard work from Earth and Fire!
This is a quality Dutch band. Why they never made it in the UK is beyond me. Listen to The Song Of The Marching Children album. If you love prog you must buy it! Plus Jerney is one sexy laydee!!
Early symphonic rock (1971)...That was really the time to do it! Holland was then as inventive as the UK and USA...Very special and amazing!
Thanks very much for Jerney (voice) and the brothers Koerts for making all these genious music (singles + albums), certainly throughout the first half of the 70*ies!! Great great memories(!);-) It stills gives me the creeps...Thanks samda for sharing.
True. This clip starts about 2 mins into the song. The advantage is that you get a unique ending to the song - the version on the record just fades out.
The Mellotron M-400 always is played live with the lid off...smart idea if the tapes get sticky! Wow! What a song! How can anyone be without Song Of The Marching Children or Atlantis?!!
Het is een geweldig nummer, maar deze video zwabbert te veel (loopt niet op een constante snelheid)waardoor het geheel vals klinkt, jammer. Ik hoop dat er nog een betere, zuivere geluidsband van te vinden is.
I've had this album for years in bootleg. Criminal that they weren't more appreciated. This live version is even better! Whoever posted this, thank you!!! Anyone know where to get this on DVD?
Sambda, you're right. I've checked it out. On 'your' version, here, you can clearly hear Jerney yell in the background at exactly 02:59. On the studio-version you can't hear it.
Dunno. That wasn't on the tape I was grabbing from, but ended up in the finished video file. Couldn't be bothered to go back and do it again just for that.
Yes. Sadly, Earth and Fire only had a brief period of turning out this interesting kind of stuff, before they went sort of "disco funk" during the later Seventies and started to be called "Holland's Abba"! Sadly this later career has tarnished their earlier reputation.
'Short' still lasted from 1970 till 1975/76. So, not too short all 'n all. With four great experimental albums and eight more or less rock-psychedelic hitsingles. In the second half of the seventies most former alternative bands stopped to exist in the Netherlands or turned to commercial sounds, from disco to popular 'meezingers'. Times had changed clearly, as well as their public. It's easy to judge now, too easy. Though I agree it's sad it harmed the bands reputation up till today.
Jeetje, kijk die haardracht. Echt de hippietijd. Zeker wel uit de jaren 70. Iedere keer als ik dit nummer hoor, waan ik mezelf weer in 1975. Toen hoorde ik dit nummer ook voor het eerst.
