Well, glad the "discussion"below has settled. Let's bring up something new: There's mentioning of JB Hutoo being a great composer. Somehow (in this track at least) I hear a great deal of Elmore.....
@stratphil "Tokei" might be the name of a guitar company, but the "-ihto" at the end makes it the main character of a German (or, to be precise, former GDR) novel turned movie - about the life of a Native American chief - named "The Sons of Great Bear", that I was quite enamoured with as a child. So much for that.
Since we're both obviously not enjoying the course this conversation has taken we better refrain from further (thematically similar) posts so the thread can be brought back on track.
@stratphil I'll leave comment up for a short minute and erase all my previous correspondence.... I dont enjoy this kind of cnversation either Best Wishes
@stratphil Don't make the mistake of calling the great late Rory Gallagher "just a guy" and being one of those haters who decry new renditions just because they tend to deviate from the original. ;-)
If there ever was a non-american musician who lived and breathed this music like the old bluesmen did it surely was Ireland's prodigal son.
If one prefers Hutto's version or Rory's rearrengement boils down to personal preferences. However, as a blues enthusiast one should be able to appreciate both.
@stratphil Um, no need to spout a tirade. Neither the guy who liked Rory's version better nor I maligned Hutto in any way, let alone give cause to be considered a "hater". Stating one's preferences should be allowed, though, regardless of any hardships and tragedies the original artist may have encountered. Your sentiment towards someone taking an old blues standard and developing his own interpretation of it on the other hand came off as derogatory and elitist, even if it wasn't meant that way.
@Tokeiihto13 Coming from soeone whose name is synonymous with patent infringement I think your comments are inacurate, misguided, and a waste of my time and the space on this webpage, can we get back to talking about what a great songwriter, singer and guitar slide innovator JB Hutto was?.... I thought so.... Best wishes
@stratphil Judging by your comment I rather doubt that you have any knowledge of where my name is derived from. But you are free to enlighten me with your "thesis" of how a fictional character is synonymous with patent (?!) infringement.
Apart from that, don't fret, I won't bother to communicate with you anymore since I don't see any sense in arguing with an adult behaving like an immature teenager who thinks he has won the Magic Belief Lottery while simultaneously resorting to petty insults.
Im hearing lots of Elmore James in this...Nice stuff!!!

Chicago Blues < Delta Blues. But JB Hutto is the man!
though i may be a little biased, being from Memphis and all : )

You can't beat the authentic sound of Chicago Blues..there may be imitators but few of them have voices like the innovators.
J.B Hutto was a direct link to Elmore.

@tvrulesnation Don't make the mistake of bein' one of those haters who can't appreciate the original

@Tokeiihto13 Listen A..hole Dont put words in my mouth... you dont know how long I've been
lstening to Rory Gallaghers music... I saw him live when he first came to the U.S., I know his influences
I know his music, If I want to defend the honor of a man who, spent his early life unable to go to the
same restroom as most of the population, without being beaten or shot I oughta be able to do so
without some long winded pretentious jerk spoutin off about somethin he knows nothin about.
