It looks like the case is coming out of the trimmer with the neck sized to .30. Does the sizing happen at the same time its in the trimmer? Is it going into any dies after that? Nice setup, I'm trying to get one together right now for my .300blk
@slimjim561 With a small case capacity, fast powders, and heavy bullets, it's capable of getting a 240 grain bullet to the speed of sound and having little pressure left at the muzzle. Plus, since there's less case capacity, loads will be more consistant and safer than regular gallery loads from a .308 or .30-06 case. And since the case and the whole cartridge itself is so short, it can fit in an AR-15, which the brief pulse of gas can still cycle with the right gas system.
so get a 223 and neck it out and you have a 300 whisper? can you buy a barrel for a m16 and make it because a tactical (silenced)m16 shooting 150-240 gr bullets = ownage
You can buy an upper, only problem to suppress it legally without making the gun really long... form 4 ,registered as SBR 200 dollar tax stamp and 3 months to get the form 4 back.
You could save the cost of one stamp by getting the can permanently mounted to the barrel so that the effective barrel length is >=16" . You'd have to blind pin or silver solder the silencer to the muzzle. Not sure that most people would want to have a ~$600 rifle can permanently attached though.
That's not really a good option for anyone who travels, different state statues would consider a NFA device contraband so having the ability to store your (CAN/SBR/SBS) and take your weapon with you from state to state would be a good option to keep.
would you please post what you are doing here, step by step. I see that you are using a dillon progressive loader, what other tools are you using in this(hint hint) am I hearing a shop vac, or is that another power tool?
The press is set up with a Dillons .308 trim die and electric case trimmer.
The vac is to pull all the chips and swarf away coz there is a lot of it.
All you do is set the trim die to the desired shoulder length and the case trimmer for OAL and run the .223 cases up into it. All that's needed then is deburring and they are ready to shoot. Upon firing, the shoulder becomes slightly more pronunced.
We have now use this set-up on a 1050 and can make 1000 cases per hour.
so you're saying I can take a 308 die, trim it down .600 and stage 1- resize to .223 full length/decap, stage2- neck up to .30 cal, stage 3- .30 cal neck size + trim
?? if I do that, i never bought a 300/221 die, and only resized a .308 trim die
you would never "neck up" as the carbide cutter trim die turns the entire top section of the .223 brass to waste shavings to recycle at the scrap brass dealer for cash...you actually squeeze down the .223 body to make a new shoulder and neck for the .300 whisper.

REdding make the dies, they're called .300-221
mark223556 1 year ago
No, you need to reduce the legth of the case to the same as a .221 Fireball and then neck it to .30.
You can use .221 Fireball brass and neck up but we have .223 brass in abundance so use that

@mark223556 , Can you help a fellow shooter out, Who makes .300 Whisper dies? Or do I need a custom set?

Don't forget the stamp for the silencer/can too.

Man, that thing is shredding that brass like butter. I wouldn't have guessed that trimmer was capable of it.

One other thing, the .308 trim die must be shortened .600"

No need to size if the 223 brass is already sized.
There is enough neck tension from the .308 trim die for most brass.
Winchester can do with a little neck sizing but the brass really is good to go
mark223556 4 years ago
are you using it as the full length sizer too? or are you doing that before hand?
gimp2x 4 years ago
Dillon .308 trim die, shortened by .600"
