Add Bob Schieffer along with Brian Williams and Charlie Gibson at the time and those men would have made a big 3 of their own. But instead they had to add Katie Couric to the mix.

Yeah, but then CBS would have had to look for someone to replace Schieffer on Face The Nation fulltime, and I'm sure he desired neither to do both or give one up. Honestly, they should've chosen John Roberts or else Russ Mitchell or Jeff Glor. Rather's replacement was in-house, but CBS wanted a big name at the time. HUGE ass mistake. Fortunately, they've done right in Scott Pelley before they forced him to depart.

They could have easily reached out to Meredith Vieira again, but they swallowed some pride and realized that it would be akin to hiring Couric again.

Bob honestly should have replaced Rather the show seems like it would've been in a better spot... and while i dont like anything on CBS i did enjoy the CBS Evening News when he was anchoring.

Bob Schieffer had done a much better job than Katie Couric did. Let's not forget, he brought the ratings up from where Dan Rather had them. (which was last) I think that he defintely should replace Katie Couric, especially since the ratings have done nothing except go downhill with her.

I always enjoyed the CBS news when Bob Schieffer was the host. He just seemed like someone you could trust and he was someone you looked forward to watching every evening. They should have kept him as the anchor.

I think that Bob should have stayed. The problem with Kathie is that she is still perky and should have stayed at TODAY. I met Katie once and she was so nice but I think she does not have the hard hitting aspect that is needed. With her, it sounds like there is no sense of urgency to the news unlike how it was with Bob Schieffer

The '00-'06 graphics were used for a LONG time. The graphics on KRQE News 13 have also been used since 2000 and are still used as of 2008

Think 1999 is a long time... WCSH-Portland, ME and sister WLBZ-Bangor, ME have used the same music package since 1986! It's the #1 station in Portland. The NBC station's competition... Hearst-Argyle's ABC.. WMTW and Sinclair's WGME-CBS ... in Bangor.. Locally-owned WABI-CBS and WVII-ABC... in Bangor I think they are #2.

WTAJ-TV (CBS) in Altoona, PA used the same set from 1995-2007.  They changed the music once in that frame of time. Somebody bought the station, which is the only reason the set, graphics, and music has changed.

I think they'd still be using the Rather/Schieffer set and music. I believe that's the main reason why John Roberts went over to CNN, because CBS told him that they were hiring Katie Couric. I always though John was the rightful successor of Dan.
