Very kind to post the video. Hope that Vegas is doing well. My Bulldog is 9 months old. I came home last night and she had be sleeping. She goes crazy, charging around with excitement but then she had a seizure of about 10 seconds. She lost bladder control and went very stiff. she seemed to be ok afterwards. Was disturbing and heartbreaking to watch. She is in good spirits today but I am taking her to the vets tonight.
@ScottLeRoc I hope all goes well for your baby bulldog. Please keep me up to date on how your little one is doing. Vegas has almost made it to the 60 day mark without a grand mal seizure. He's had some smaller petit mals. Things are looking better.
One of the english bulldogs I dogsit, I noticed last night she was doing this. I knew it had to be some sort of seizure. Thank you for uploading this video so that I'd know what may have caused it. I hope your doggy is all right. xx
@libra92673 They didn't know it was seizures. They said that she sometimes had those 'fits', but my sister-in-law has seizures so I immediately knew something was worse than just a 'fit', so I told the dogowners and she's set to see the vet on Monday.
@pookie85 If the dog happens to have one before they see the vet...ask them to try and get it on video.. It's so much easier for them to see it and diagnose it. Let me know what happens.
I had a dog it would sleep with me and it was a miniature sznouzer or however you spell it but I would play with it everyday and we also had a Alaskan husky it was the neighbour hood dog and my dog followed him and he got use to walking in the streets we tried to get him to stop but he wouldn't but anyways he got ran over a week after his birthday and the day my mom and dad got a divorce worse day of my life he was like my brother.
I just experienced an hour ago our girl (5 yrs old) having a seizure. Horrible thing is, we only got her a few weeks ago from a friend thats going overseas. So im still waiting for the other 'mum' to ring me so I can tell her what happened, freaky. !
Thank you for posting this. In a few days I will have a 4 year old English with epilepsy. I wanted to see what I was getting myself into. I think you're a good goggie mommy and those who critique don't have a clue what's going on. Anyway, kiss Vegas for me! :)
im truly sorry, he looks loved by the way your calming him dow, seizures can be very scary, i had to deal with them my whole entire life. my mother had the,. i was 4 when she had her first, we were alone at the house, and it started. thankgod, my aunt came just in time. she wasnt breathing. but now its been 1 year fully free of seizures. the best of luck to you. <3
poor little guy! I have a french bulldog myself, and he gets a similar shaking of the head as your dog does. Our vet says it has something to do with some red bloodcells that are low. Our frenchie always gets his twitches when he´s relaxing, usually just when he wakes up from his sleep. Pls let me know if this information was usefull... PS i´m from denmark.
Do you mean low blood sugar? Hypoglycemia is common in the bulldog breed..they metabolize their food fairly quickly and often end up with idiopathic head tremors. These are petit mal and grand mal seizures..with postictal symptoms. He is unaware during a seizure....cant stand or walk. When your Frenchie has his twitches..is he coherent? Good luck with you little guy! I wish these were just head tremors..unfortunately, he has been diagnosed by a neurologist!! :o(
thank you for sharing this... do you know when he is about to have one... what if you arent there to watch him... have you ever come home to the aftermath of him having one? they look pretty scary! its great that you are such a good owner and take such good care of him! :)
He does show certain signs before he has a seizure. Usually he paces. Sometimes he gets aggressive in his play. Usually Vegas is laid back and watches the world go by.
But, then again...he has sometimes paced and nothing ever came of it. 85% of his seizures happen while he's sleeping. I'm sure he's had them when no one was home, but he recovers quickly and the only evidence is dried saliva/foam on his face. We actually have a blood draw tomorrow to test his levels! Wish us luck
How often does he get the seizures? Unfortunately, my english bulldog Winston, out of nowhere, had 4 seizures since last night. He frothed at the mouth, and had uncontrollable spasms for about 1 minute at a time. Its scary, b/c ive never seen him do this before. Now I'm scared to leave him alone when i go to work, or leave him close to any set of stairs, should he fall down them. I'll post a video in a bit
Vegas averages 1 seizure every 3 to 6 weeks. They have improved since he was diagnosed 2 years ago. What you are experiencing are clusters. Vegas started out having clusters, but with meds...he only has one. It is scary. If he has a kennel, put him in there when at work. Or if he is a good boy, try enrolling him in puppy daycare. When Vegas has a seizure and I have no one to stay with him, I take him to daycare and they keep an eye on him for me.
@mgavina916 If Winston doesn't have a kennel, put him in the kitchen and block it off. Make sure there isn't anything the can fall on him or that can hurt him during a seizure. My neurologist has assured me that they do not feel them, they do not hurt them and they don't know what is going on. Winston may pace for awhile...this is a post-ical symptom. They brain needs time to settle down. How old is Winston?
@libra92673 Unfortunately, I don't think puppy daycare is something i can afford. i do have a kennel/crate, but he is a very skittish, nervous dog, and I haven't had to crate him for a long time. Since he is so anxious, I do not want to trigger a seizure by forcing him into the crate for the 8hrs im at work. He used to enjoy being in his crate, but that's no longer the case. And to answer your question, Winston is a little more than 2 years old.
@dannysmith12386 No. It's idiopathic epilepsy. There is no know cause. There are triggers such as exhaustion, light strobes and anxiety. Sometimes there is no trigger. What type of dog do you own?
TY for posting this. I can't even begin to imagine how scary this must be this video helped me out so thank you for posting it. I have a year and a half old English Bulldog and when I was just taking him for a walk he started throwing up--or trying to and he couldn't get it out and just tipped over and was choking i was worried it was a seizure-in seeing this I think he was just panicing bc he couldnt breathe..I shoved my hand in his mouth and pulled anything i could out.hope your dog is well!
@MZSIPPI78 We are still working on his medication. Right now he takes two different types of seizure meds twice daily. He just got his dosage upped. He sees his normal vet 3 times a year JUST for blood work. He sees a neurologist atleast once yearly for a checkup (he isn't even 3 yet) He just had a seizure an hour ago, but it was less severe than the one he had last month. We are keeping our fingers crossed that upping his meds might decrease the seizure activity.
Thank you so much for having the courage to post this!!! And I feel the same way about my bulldogs... My vet has been dumbfounded by my explanations of what happens, and it isn't this..hers are the idiopathic head tremors.... But I know that helpless feeling... And not having an answer was killing me!!! Thank you soooooooooooo much for this!!!
@crash7457 Your welcome. Thankyou for viewing my video and recognizing that I only want to inform, not exploit. I looked forever to find an answer to what was happening, only to come up empty handed. My vet is so thankful that I caught this one on video. It's done wonders to help them medicate and educate. They have actually achived this video for reference in possible future cases.
my foster dog had a seizure, we thought he was poisoned, but then he had another one the other night. He vomits, then starts having a seizure, looks like he's swimming, and lots of foam. Poor guy. Doing tests, but can't afford an MRI. I feel much better after going on youtube and learning more.
our Bulldog had a seizure yesterday (she is nearly 11). She started twitching and looked lost and then her back legs kept collapsing. She seems normal now thank god.
Is this the first time that your bulldog has has a seizure? I'm glad she seems to be back to normal. If you have any other questions I might be able to answer, please let me know!
She's had small episodes previously where she doesn't seem to know where she is or she hasn't recognised any of us at home but the other day was the first time she had gone off her legs and was twitching. It was worrying but is probably down to her age, we haven't had a bulldog that has lived past 10 before and she will be 11 in May! Thanks for the reply :)
Feel horribly for you and him. I had a boxer that had so many seizures I lost count. He was perfectly normal on a Friday when I went to work came home let him out and it started. It's an awful thing to see them go thru. We had to put our boxer down he had brain cancer. He had so many seizures in three days before we said enough is enough. You feel so helpless when it's happening.
But now he's all nasty and all he wants to do is be with me and he's covered in his fecal matter and urination! I think he got hurt before he went into it as well he jumped off two stares and hit a cage and then the door and dropped and has a seizure. He was all wobbly and would not lay down afterwrds he acts like he doesn't even wanna sleep and it's been like an hour! please contact me idk what to do
omg idk what to do my labrador retriever is about 7 now and he had a grand mal seizure last year and just now at about 4:45 am for it seemed like 10 minutes but maybe 5 I was unaware that it is important to count.
You are an amazing person!! Most people don't even bother taking their animals to the vet for basic shots. I can only imagine how much time and money you invest in this poor little guy. They are so worth it. They pay you back ten fold with their love. =)
OMG That just made me cry! :~( Poor babbbbby! I wanted to jump into the screen and hug him :( He's very fortunate to have you as a his owner! Anyone else with less of a heart would of got scared and got rid of him :( Yay for your big heart :) God will bless you for all your efforts. I'm sure that Vegas would verbally thank you if he could talk! :)
Our bully is 2 years old. He's been suffering from seizures for about 1 year. We still do not have them controlled. In the last weekend they have gotten much much worse. What did the neurologist do for you? We've already spent over $1500 on treatment and his postictal stage is getting longer and longer. Any advise or reassurance you can provide would be appreciated.
