This dude has a great voice. However, he loses you because he is all over the place. The thing that makes this a classic is the fact that when Donnie sang it, his simplicity allowed you to feel what he was saying, not just hear what he was saying. But regardless of that, this dude can obviously sing.

I know the guy's talented. I actually think he's a brilliant performer. It's just that when you sing half your song in a disconnected falsetto, you start wondering what it'd sound like if it were in full voice (take Ryan Shaw for instance). He's lucky he's a tenor voice because if he wasn't...he'd be singing the entire song in falsetto...imagine how that'd sound.

Interesting you mention Ryan Shaw - killer voice as well. But on a totally different level. Ryan sounds best when is singing mellow. He has a beautiful timbre to his voice, but when he hits the upper registers with his falsetto, he almost sounds like he is screeching. Amir's performance is effortless, confident, absolutely blowing the song away. You know, when you find yourself preferring Amir's verson to Donny Hathaway's the man is talented!
