  • this is not new york at all .. maybe in rochester

  • you sound Australian lol

  • thats more like english

  • My teacher breathes NY, she sounds like this.

  • does sound like boston

  • She sounds like a Bogan.

  • this sounds more like a boston accient

  • This woman is full of crap - she has little idea as to what she'd talking about, and is she is a NYC native something is wrong, I'd say there is NO way she is.

  • at what point in my life will i need to ask some 1 if cartwheels are harmful at the bar ? surely if i'm willing to do cartwheels at the bar im to drunk to ask if its harmful

  • First rule of Fight Club: Don't try to imitate a New Yorker unless you're FROM New York.

Second rule of Fight Club: DON'T TRY TO IMITATE A NEW YORKER UNLESS YOU'RE FROM NEW YORK.

FYI: The closest accent to this is Boston. There is NO variant of the NY accent that resembles what she is doing.

  • YOUR SO LATE, WE STOPPED TALKING LIKE THAT OVER A 100 YEARS AGO

  • That's definitely a Boston accent, not New York. Stupid.

  • At some parts she sounds australian and in others she sounds like Louis Griffen from family guy!! Hahah

  • umm. she sounds like shes from boston. doesnt she realize that boston accents are like the EXACT OPPOSITE of new york accents? i cant even watch the rest of this video it bothers me so much.... im from new york if u havent guessed by now =]

  • I'm was Born and raised in the Bronx, and there is a difference in how african americans talk (and I don't mean "hood", I mean accent/dialect) from the a a NY puerto rican talks, the way an Italian in the bronx talks compared to an italian in say, Long Istand. She sound more like she's from Boston to me.

  • thats really boston youre doin.. Caaa? aint new york

  • australian i think... is this person for real... has she listened to herself or even asked her friends how she sounds?

  • "Now it's very important with both of these r drops that you push through and you feel it coming through your jaw. You have to involve your lower jaw of you're going to sound Bostonian with this particular change." Uh oh, we don't want to sound Bostonian now, do we? :/ I'd rather sound like anything rather than sounding like her in her accent videos....

  • how can a harbour be harmed?

  • Do you realizing your doing a Boston accent? ive lived in newyork for 18 years and i NEVER talked that that -_- fail.

  • Thats Australian, even i know this and im from England UK

  • wat the heckkk what part of new york u fromm noooooo

  • @Emylamila, No, I'm from queens and many of us have non-rhotic accents (r dropping) though its diying, its a Western Longuyland thing (parts of Nassau, most of queens and brooklyn) but its diying. We dont say Cah, its more Caw almost cwaw, Cawtwheels, cawds, etcs.

  • the vowels are wrong, those of us who have non-rhotic accents (such as myself) pronounce those vowels different, more of a W glide, C(w)awd, Hawd not Caahd,Haahd. Sorry.

  • Theres only a few words she said that actually sounded authentic.

  • THat's totally a New Englander/Boston accent. You crazy!!!!!! No where near a New York accent. We NEVER do that to the vowels like in this video.

  • What!! New yorkers speak this way?? Since when...since 2 eyars ago? Nahh

  • You have New York and Boston confused. We don't sound like that!

  • I read the comments before I watched the video, and I thought the ones saying 'Australian' were just exaggerating. I watched the video, and now I know they wern't. That accent sounds Australian.

  • we don't speak like this...

  • Great Aussie accent, missus. :)

  • Your New Yawk accent sounds Bostonian. You are emphasizing the ah sound way too much and sound like "the havad yad." I grew up in Brooklyn and worked in New York City for many, many years. I went to school in Connecticut and was teased all the time. Getting the words pronounced by rules is not really the way you can learn it. Like anything else like that, you have to live it!

  • Lol! She sounds like estelle from friends!! She fails at everything she does

  • we don't talk like that

  • I think you confused your Boston accent with your New York accent. You don't sound like anyone I ever met in my home town of NYC but you sure do sound like my neighbors from Boston.

  • This lady doesn't know what the hell she talking about no one in New York sounds like that. You cant teach what you dont know lady.

  • Comment removed

  • sounds kinda like Fran Fyne's mom on the Nanny

  • now how do i speak like a 1920s gangster?

  • Uhm, I'm from Long Island, my mom is from Queens, my aunt is from Manhattan, a good friend of mine from Staten Island, and I've spent a lot of time upstate.

No one from New York sounds like that.

Maybe the guy from the Honeymooners did, but that was just him. His wife didn't even sound like that....

  • It's not the jaw drop, since that's in many Bostonian accents too. It's more a jaw forward. The mistake is in thinking that there is only one NY or one Bostonian accent. There should be a near 'w' in most (not all) NY accents.

The real difference is in the word "during" (NY should sounds like "duoring" with a hard g)

  • @nycfl90 If you were really from Long Island you would say ON Long Island, not IN Long Island. What's "in" Long Island?

  • she sounds like a nazal australien

  • This is new york. it's 1920's new york.

  • @Karll541 I agree, this lady is exaggerating, these videos seem to be for training actors. The accent she's teaching is really old, I do hear an occasional old guy sound pretty much like Mel Blanc doing Bugs Bunny.

  • That is so Boston, dude. I live in Queens and people here do not talk like that. If anything, it's more of a "aw" sound than an "ah" sound and it's nowhere near as stressed as she's making it. Ex:

    Car: caw (not cah)

    Card: cawd (not cahd)

    arbor: awbuh (not ahbah)

It's also spoken rather fast. She really has no idea what she's saying. I doubt she's ever even been to New York.

  • @punkgrl325 I agree, I'm from queens with a non-rhotic accent (R dropping) I do infact say caw,Cawd,etc. Not Caah,Caahd, that sounds very boston.

  • shes the champion

  • sounds like Boston not new york wrong place

  • bottomless font of misinformation

  • Sounds more like a Boston accent. People from Boston use "AH" sounds while New Yorkers use "AW" sounds. Someone from Boston would say "Ha-bah" (Harbor) while someone from NYC would say "Haw-buh".

  • Comment removed

  • @mrtony80 exactly. This "expert" was trying to do a "British accent" ROFL in another video.

  • its boston... straight up and down... and ny SLANG is probably the most telling of the regional dialect less so than the actual phonetic pronunciations themselves...

  • What is this some audition video to try out for Lois Griffin?

  • LOL!!!

  • This lady does not sound New york at all i grew up in NY Queens and we do not speak like that lol.

  • im from ny , i dnt think i sound like tht

  • this lady is on speed

  • yeah you're way off

im from ny and no one sounds like that

that sounds like the dumb boston accent

  • I really hope shes joking

  • G'day. Nice Australian accent. *winks*

  • yea thats a boston accent

  • Hay Australian.

  • you sound like an australian with down syndrome?

  • @harlzIsZombehfied

    delete the question mark

  • you sound australian and you look like an absolute psycho

  • Whoa this was totally wrong definitely sounds more boston.

  • yea, it's not "caahd game". it's "cawd game". ^^ at least that's how I say it. I'm from New Orleans but now live in Texas and people think I'm from Brooklyn. I guess the accents are really similar. New Orleans accent isn't like a country accent they portray it as in movies. It's smililar to Brooklyn.

  • I'm from Houston and I agree that the New Orleans accent sounds very east coast - kinda weird, yall being from the south and all.

  • thats def a boston accent!

  • thats NOT how we sound at all...like not even remotly close

  • that's boston, not new york.

  • This is SUCH a Boston accent

  • Woa! I'm from Philly and I damn for shore never heard a Nyer say cahd like that. For them it would be more cawd or just cards period. Now, I see why everyone hates your videos because R dropping in NY does not turn into Bostonian A's sounding proper like that.

  • I don't care what people say but she sounds like Pruane2forever prouncing NY accents.

  • It IS totally Boston; no one says "cad-game"; it's cahd game.

    She's a moron.

  • deff. NOT new york

boston...but itz not even that qood

  • That's Boston, not NYC! LOL!

  • lol im from boston and that is EXACTLY how my mother talks lol.

  • It appears that she has insulted New Yorkers, the same way she insulted the English with these same types of "how to" videos.

And once again, she confuses a dialect with an accent.

It's -- more than obvious -- that her videos need to be taken off of YouTube altogether!

  • I don't think that this sound like a NY talk......

  • im from southeast london and that sounds australian so im confused lol

  • I vote that all her videos be removed and replaced with someone who is actually from New York.

  • Oh man I'm a New Yorker and thats a Boston accent. None of us talk like that.

  • so true...

  • Aussie

  • go on the 'how to speak british accent' its bloody worst!! the whole of britain have basically commented on how she makes us sound! its insulting!

  • "ahh cahtwheels hahmful at haav'd yaa'd?"

^that's what the sentence should be. This is clearly bostonian. she even mentions that one should be careful not to sound too Bostonian. she should take her own advice.

I've lived in NY my entire life, and...we don't talk like this.

Also, does anyone else notice that when she does this accent she makes it so unbelievably nasal she sounds like Fran Drescher?

and, she says "now, say it 'normal'"...as if NY accents are of another world.what a douche

  • That is Bostonian...

    And it sounds Aussie.

  • that's boston, ny r'drop sounds different.

  • That's not an NYC dialect, that's perfect Bostonian tho!!

  • This is definitely Boston! If you want to hear New York dialect, listen to Steven Schirripa!

  • THATS BOSTON. Get your cities straight and stop posing as a New Yorker. Or should I say New Yawkah. EHHH Sharrrrrap.

  • she sounds like louis from family guy lol

  • Yeah, this is a bit more like a Mass. or RI accent. And I haven't even went there. I learned from Family Guy :P

  • Sounds Australian... or like some Aussie trying to take the piss out of a Kiwi

  • Boston Bronx Brooklyn Whatever...And its funny i have a speech disorder and i sound like, i have a Brooklyn accent.lol

  • car? cod? fish? stupid.

  • lol it sounds Australian to me, I'm British btw

  • There's quite a few NY accents, depends what part of NY you're in. BTW, this presenter drops her trailing Ts, wonder where she picked up her Standard American English..

  • she sounds like she is straight out of mass, most of my friends are italian from n.y.c. they do not sound anything like that.

  • That's right, xonsmiles... she's doing southie Boston, and thinks it's Bronx, Brooklyn. She needs to get out of the house and talk to people.

  • hahahahaha guese its true what they say if ya cant do, teach ha

  • I take this really offensively! Our dialect is a renowned secret that we will never share! Mwuahah!

  • Sounds like a mix between a Boston and Australian accent. This lady is ridiculous, has she ever even been to New York? No one talks like that.

  • Hmm, dropping the "R" sound. I know thats the same thing that Puerto Ricans do to the Spanish language. They tend to lack the R sound and use more of a L sound in its place, which is one major difference in Spanish spoken in Puerto Rico and Spanish spoken in Mexico.

  • i don't get it do people want to do a good new york voice that

  • mass. she sounds freaking australian!! ahahahahaha. what crap.

  • she needs to get laid

  • this is hilarious its like how to speak new yorkian

  • Is she kidding? This sounds nothing like New Yorkers.

  • she sounds like she is from Mass. I'm from NYC

  • BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS. my family is from there. that is what you sound like. you suck.

  • New York is in Australia?

  • lol I think it makes people sound stupid and uneducated

  • Well, I don't know who wants to talk like that, it's usefull I guess, but I don't think New Yorkers sound like that...

  • I live in new york and I know anyone that talks like that.

  • Boston.

  • thats a boston dialect

  • okay... people from new york do NOT sound like that!

  • Be quiet. I want to learn this foreign language!

  • is she high?

  • That lady is crazy!

  • watch?v=1UEOZGFzPas

  • it does sound more bostonian like, however i have known some bronx born jewish women that don't sound much different, they are like 80 though.

  • THis sounds closer to an Australian accent. I went to New York 2 months ago and nobody sounded like that!

  • lol that sounds english not new-york-ian ;D lol

  • lol this is so dumb newyorkers don't have that accent

  • they got this wrong thats a boston accent not New york

  • sorry i must be a thick English man, because that does not sound Newyork to me!

  • Now for the encore, let's hear her speak with a Harlem accent....this should be priceless....lol

  • LoL

  • im from new york and your right i am laughing cause i dont talk like that.

  • She sounds like Doug's mom and King of Queens. She forgot to teach everyone to say wise guy, since people from New York love to say that.

  • exactlly the same!!!!!

  • hahahahahahaha thats awesome i knew a guy from new york that talks like that such a funny accent

  • Sounds like Australian to me.. :)

  • and even then it's super sucky. trust me i live here.

  • that isn't NEWYORK!

    that's like a boston/mainer accent.

  • r u crappin me?

that aint a new york dialect!

  • What are you kiddin' me? I live in NY and have my whole life. Not a single person I met sounds like that. If you head up to Boston thats where you'll hear that, but it definitely ain't in NYC.

  • dude this video is so stereotyped
