  • how can you sociolise with a muslim men who dont believe in sociolising with women or a muslim woman who covers up most or her face because she doent want anyone to see her. there is a problem in society in east london

  • i am a theist

  • i believe there is a problem in society in britain, there are communities/religions in britain who do not respect other peoples culture and believe that there own communities/religion should be the only existence in britain.youtube is full of these videos showing how these groups want to either suppress other peoples rights or just plainly want to make britain a islamic country

  • hot girl right there

  • sociology is a very smart subject!

  • well.. that was enlightening.

  • Hello everybody. Please check out a video I made the other day: "In Defence of Sociology". It`s a video that introduces The First Law of Sociology (funny, I think). Only 95 seconds.

  • look a the chemists and physicits Bash sociology, but fair point it isnt a set in stone science O_o sorry ....

  • @ttiiyy I agree and disagree with you. I agree that the poor need the jobs to buy the food but they also need a basic education. If you can't read, write or do sums you'll find day to day living quite hard.

  • Taking sociology as an A-Level. Very interesting subject.

  • Sociology requires the capacity for independent thought and critical analysis which is a rare characteristic in people more and more. It puts spotlights on areas of self and society that people don't want to deal with would rather ignore. Sociological understanding usually challenges status quo points of view and threatens worldviews and mental constructions. People who deride Sociology/Psychology and social sciences are usually of a certain kind...narcissistic, herd mentality types -

  • sociology doesn't deserve the logy suffix at all. it's not a science... move on please. you know what? I changed my mind. You better go study your sociology "the study of LIFE" while I'm living mine

  • @mericgencturk If your idea of life is making crass and insulting comments about something you know nothing about then I guess you've found your niche. If ignorance is bliss you must be ecstatic.

  • @chrislivesey

Humm who has the valid point ? better call the sociologist.

Oh wait, they have a professional bias, oh well...

  • @Curas1 - Yeah, brilliant point. "Professional bias". Of course, that must explain it.

  • @mericgencturk Go on to live your own(:

  • I'm not listening to the band 'Dream Theater' because my friends or my cousin does! Besides I'm the only one listening to them and no one fucking influences me. Sociology is just full of shit period. You fucking pervert goats.

  • @mericgencturk Honestly, if you had any intelligence at all you'd be dangerous. Luclkily...

  • @chrislivesey that should be "luckily". you're welcome intelligent guy.

  • @mericgencturk Wow! Devastating. You laboured long and hard over a put-down and the best you could come up with was...a typo. I'm glad I don't know you because just being in your gloriously individualistic presence probably sucks all the fun out of the room (although you could probably delete the final clause).

  • 1:13

    extremely sexy

  • @HOXHOXHOX Thnak you. I try to look after myself.

  • Sociology in western’s ideology is bullshit from the first to the last

Only GOD tell us how to live in this world

  • @amine17360 Unfortunately "He's" been a bit quiet on the old "telling us how to live" front these past few thousand years. Probably best if we try to work it out for ourselves, then.

  • Comment removed

  • @Leaderofspirestone: As you probably apprecaiute more than most, sex with yourself is always more satistfying.

  • This is a new experience to me and I am open to n\ew techniques in teaching and learning since Iam a teacher. To me sociology is the study of how people interact with each other.

  • Subjects like Sociology is what our world needs . Biology , Chemistry and Physics have there own importance which cannot be undermined but Sociology requires a lot of thinking and policy making which the pure sciences subjects lack . No doubt Sociology is needed for the kind of people who are posting lame comments to this video like IT IS FOR NOOBS AND ALL . Everyone can't be a doctor or an engineer . We need good policy makers to take us out of the deteriorated condition of this world

  • @MissNtotheA

"Sociology requires a lot of thinking and policy making which the pure sciences subjects lack."

Pure sciences lack thinking?!?! Are you fucking crazy?

  • @salman265 I'm guessing they mean "thinking about the social world"...

  • @chrislivesey maybe, but that comment would make almost no sense as I could say that sociology lacks the hardcore thinking and rigour that science subjects have.

  • @salman265 Maybe not everyone can express themselves as clearly as we might like.

  • I am an engineering undergrad taking a basic sociology module as an extra module. I have to say that it is totally different from maths and science in the way that it doesn't give you black and white answers. Maybe I need to allow myself to think more freely to understand this area of study better even though my brain is sort of more wired towards math and sciences.

Thanks to chrislivesey for his uploads anyway:)

  • I think one of the problems people have with sociology is they see society in a kind of Newtonian way - a mechanical universe that is consistent and predictable - and when sociology doesn't produce accurate predictions it must be because sociology's a little bit useless, rather than seeing the world as a complex, chaotic, system that defies simple mechanical "scientific" prediction (I also think these people have no real idea about science...).

  • @chrislivesey Some behaviours can be mathematically modelled and are broadly predictable (I could probably give you an accurate prediction of most people's general daily grind...) and some sociologists have toyed with chaos theory. The way I see it, fwiw, is that sociology reflects the fact societies consist of argumentative, inconsistent, bloody-minded individuals who have little or no idea about how and why they behave as they do

  • Sociology student here, idk how it is in USA,or european countries but here in latin america, sociology is all about criticizing capitalism, becoming a left winger and having an "irrational" hate for positivism. Most all of the time, classes will be structured on how capitalism is the evil of all evils. So if you have even the slightest grain of liking the system or a little bit of free market thinking, be prepared to have your thoughts constantly attacked. Dont study this, unless you are a lefty

  • @BlueSuperNova88 Well, that's to be expected as sociology tries to look at the human animal from a different perspective than economics, from a more psychological approach. My problem with it is that it seems to me that it tends to psychologize others to change their behavior rather than approach the world from a point of view in which resources are scarce and limited which to me is simply ignoring the keystone of human behavior. I may be strawmanning what it is, though.

  • @ExquisiteDoom no sociology looks at society by looking at societal structures, not psychological, thats psychology. btw resources your thinking about arent scarce, there made to look scarce to shore up the capitalist system.

  • @BlueSuperNova88

Sounds like you're describing the "Conflict perspective", of which Karl Marx was a founding sociologist. I'm sure that if you give time to some of the other perspectives, you will understand that sociology is not taking one viewpoint or another. In fact, the "Functionalism perspective" may very well give you the exact opposite interpretation of capitalism, depending on what your specific subject matter is.

  • sociology- for people that cant do maths, physics or chemistry

  • @grandtheftgordon Yes - just like dumb solipsism is for people who can't do witty.

  • @grandtheftgordon Can't do math? I have to take several AS statistics courses

  • @grandtheftgordon for practicing math or physics you have to have a better society otherwise you'd grow up a DUMB. --> Socialization.... our world Need more sociologists

  • so basically its psychology and economics for people who suck at both?

  • @SecularNumanist Yes! You are exactly and precisely incorrect! Also, if I offered a prize for "Best Quip of the Week" I'm very proud to say you wouldn't have won it. Oh dear, That;s life I suppose.

  • @ttiiyy You can't rebuttal the responses that I made to yours, so you don't allow them? Grow up already! You definitely are narrow minded. So who the hell are you tell others to keep an open mind and respect sociology when you can't accept different opinions?

Calm down, not everything's a conspiracy (and there's more to life than amateur psycholoigy).

  • Ah, Giddens... :)

  • The word education is so vague. Not every subject matter can help you get a job. My professor with his PhD is one perfect example. He admitted that he filed taxes until the age of 30. So before he's 30, every taxpayer that he probably looks down helps him pay his bills.

  • @ttiiyy Why is the purpose of education "to help you get a job"? Not exactly sure what your professor did before he was 30, but that's probaby an issue between you and him / her.

  • I can't say that sociology is a useless subject, but I'm tired of watching my own professor bragging about his knowledge of all these "models" that sociologists use to examine the society. All the ideas are just IDEOLOGIES. Seriously, I don't believe that the professor has ever beent to a poor neighboorhood to really understand what people're dealing with everyday. They need the food and the jobs. And the only answer that these college professors can give them is: education. What a joke.

  • @ttiiyy To say something is "just ideology" is like saying most of the earth is "just water"; maybe it is, but surely it's what you do with that counts? And why do sociologists have to "experience poverty" to talk about it? That's like saying only the poor can talk about it because they know what it's really like (which probably makes the idea of education just a little bit restrictive? Can only politicians talk about politics because "they're living it"?

  • @chrislivesey LMAO Believe in whatever you want to believe. When it comes down to poverty, it won't be easy for someone who has never experienced poverty to understand how tough it is! Some sociology professors write papers on social issues especially poverty. My question is: what RESEARCH have they done?

You seem to think highly of this particular subject matter. Can you tell us what methods they use to understand poverty and come up with the solutions to address the problem?

  • @ttiiyy Sorry, but I'm not here to answer your questions - but here's an idea. Try reading stuff. Your argument is both illogical and without merit. Since you're clearly a bit hard of thinking, try this: do you have to be wealthy to "understand wealth"? (and I guess historians should just give up now...).

  • this observation idenitfies how diversifying the society we live in pressing on the points improtants of conventional theories and the many racial minority person of color has such an effect of eachother in why we relate the way we do.

  • This is a very useless degree based on pseudo-science. Anyone pursuing this path might want to think really hard before entering it. The basic premise to this major is not about liberation or equality, but rather about "methods" and statistics. These techniques are used so that sociologist can tell you that you screwed(in terms of economics) because there is "evidence" to back up their claims. In other words publishing papers is what is most important to them not the welfare of society.

  • @Dannyboi49 Sorry, but I don't follow this logic - it's "useless" because it's not based on equality? And quite why sociology has to be about "the welfare of society" (whatever that may be when it's at home and pissing on your carpet) I'm not altogether sure.

  • @chrislivesey Clearly someone needs to take his medication. I did notice that sociologists suffer from an inferiority complex since it doesn't get much attention like the harder sciences. But it is okay- we shall overcome. I am here to help.

Secondly, just as I am at home pissing on my carpet, you are doing the same thing. But, it's okay my friend and don't be ashamed. Sociology didn't teach us any better. You and I are not alone. Once again I'm here to help.

  • @Dannyboi49 No, sorry, still don't follow what you're on about (pop psychology clearly doesn't help...).

  • One of the most interesting topics of high school.

  • Nice music on this one

  • the "host" is cute.

  • ill admit this. every time i see some one whos whants to learn Psycology, I think thay are learning it for a bad reason. especially a really young person who hasnt evolved into an adult. is still finder thier place in the world, im 50/50, on this. I know it. i see a small asian male wlaking the halls with a huge bok that says Psychology, obviolsy hes trying to intimidate people, aslo you can tell by the look people have on thier faces. Its not my fault why i think this way,

  • Yer I am about to start uni this week and i have chosen Social Enquiry(Sociology) and Philosophy,so I can do a degree in Psychology.I can't wait

  • Sociology is the one subject in school that I find extremely interesting!!!

  • The truth is individuality doesn't exist, and that the human power structure and the constant insatiable thirst for money will bring nothing more then suffering to those they deem inferior to them. Welcome to the world, please turn off the lights on the way out.

  • i take grade 12 sociology, im in grade 11. its very interseting

  • As a person who has lived through solitary confinement for one month, I've come to love sociology!

  • @Introspective91 Yes, but that would probably make you love karaoke too... so go figure.

  • i wanna be one were should i go to school

  • And then you'll understand why the structure we all live in is so sick.

  • Almost fell asleep

  • @1124neal1124: I suppose it was something that you said "almost". Still, managed to rouse yourself sufficiently from your semi-slumber to write a comment. Which is good. Probably.

  • @1124neal1124 thankyou for your contribution to society

  • intro to sociology

  • im sure, it's still not his name. You need to be consistent with these things.

  • @aagic1: I guess we're both right, in a way. His given name is indeed "Anthony" but the guy who made the video knows him as "Tony" (a common diminutive) and I suppose - because he knows him as this - that's why he decided to use it.

  • His name is NOT Tony Giddens but Anthony Giddens. And he's one of the leading sociologists in the world today :P

  • @aagic1: The thing is, when you're a "close personal friend" and academic colleague you actually do get to call Anthony "Tony". It's only when you;re not that you don'T. Probably.

  • I wanna do an a level in socialogy. what can I do with it? (I am also doing 2 other a levels)

  • Treat it like any other A-level subject. Unless you’re aiming for a specialised science occupation (doctor, etc.) that requires a specific set of a-levels, Sociology is just another subject that will get you into university or a profession with the right grades.

If you’re aiming for a “people profession” (social work, policing, human relations etc.) doing sociology will give you a slight edge. However, even accountancy accepts sociology as a general qualification for entrance.

  • What Is Sociology? Baby don't hurt me... don't hurt me... no more

  • this is why one should influence society more then it has you

  • That video made me tired....

  • Thevenusproject (dot) com is a project of monumental knowledge and multiple decades of work that any serious sociology student would find to be a treasure! It addresses "root" causes to our social and economic world problems.

Look it up: thevenusproject (dot) com

  • "You guys are weird!" -Society

  • Sounds very interesting. Something I might want to go into.

  • want to do a sociology college course, does anyone know what kind of careers you can get with it???

  • It's turning out to be a simulated civilization, hence the word similization. I think it's time to go backwards into the future. Find the root that's causing everyone to be unhappy.

  • there might be a lot of opportunities for a sociologist in an upcoming Green company! In the next few years we will have to revolutionize the way we transport products and grow food! I want to go into the private sector after graduation... any thoughts on this?

  • I want to do a sociology college course, does anyone know what kind of careers you can get with it?

  • wooh anthony giddens! I only knew from his books... - im a sociology major in the Philippines

  • this is very interesting

  • what can you do with a BA in Sociology?

  • In general, it's a degree that gets you across the "graduate only" barrier (or allows you to enter certain occupations at a higher level). Like English, History (or whatever) degrees it's a general qualification that tells an employer you can think and work at a particular level. More specifically some occupations like social science degrees because they feel it gives you insight into human behaviours - obvious ones include social work, the police, human resources and so forth.

  • @chrislivesey i see how about Political Science? besides graduate school can be a stepping stone for a government job like cia or fbi?

  • While you'd need to look at specific requirements for particular organisations and jobs within those organisations (their web sites will give you a good idea about what they're looking for) these kinds of employers would generally be ones where sociology / political science would probably be an advantage - especially if you have a background in criminology from your studies.

  • actually one of my proff is a ba in sociology, if only they have introduce this in highschool maybe i could have took this course. is a study of human societies. for ex. study the pattern behavior of a people. ummm if one man walks with his head down while rubbing his head. and then the other one did it too. curiousity get us, why the man did it, then the other. or if one guy jumps the roof, then the other jumps, now why did he jump, and the other jumps off the roof...

  • it's really a interesting subject. for ex. about life. why did the serial became like that, maybe because when he was young, no one appreciate who he was, then mistrust vs trust. there's a reason behind every behavior. why you pretend not be asleep while your not..

after college if i still want to study maybe i'll try to take this :D

  • go for nursing, make bank.

  • a good intro , thanks for taking time to post, cheers

  • i hope 2 do this or my gcse and a levels and hopefully in uni

  • whats the diffrence between sociology and anthropology? sociology is done withing a 50 meter radius of the nearest cafe anthropology is everything beyond that.

  • That's not particularly fair. You could just as well say that anthropology is anthropomorphic humanist folly. My preference is for sociology as it focuses on contemporary topics such as consumerism, secularisation, nation state institutions, etc etc. The 'cafe sociology' you allude to is closer to philosophy, merely looking at modernity in the same manner in which Kant looked at enlightenment. Perhaps anthropology is most suited to pre-history, whereas sociology to post-enlightenment.

  • really nice
