Maybe the most important thing for a defensive lineman is getting off the ball. Next would be pad level. Definitely work those things first before trying moves. Speed sets up alot of opportunities to make plays.
I'm sorry, but that swim is just too high... an elite OT will grab that arm or punch you in the ribs, and another thing, that defensive lineman goes straight up, he's not even staying low... So thumbs down for me.
You should know when it is a passing situation, and it also helps to know your opponents primary throwing formations, so listen to your coaches on the scouting report. When you know it is going to be a pass play get good explosion off the line and do your favorite move, or move you find to be working the best on the guy across from you. Don't give up though, if you have trouble getting to paydirt early, mix up what you are doing and keep hustling. Out work the guy across from on game night.
if youre faster than the guy across from you but he has a strength/size advantage the swim technique is great, if he start over playing you outside, bust him with the swim. I always found my spin worked best if I could get my hands in the middle of the tackles shoulder pads to create a small opening to seperate from him. I did this playing end in a 5-2, comparable to outside backer. The best pass rush advice i could give though is to be mindful of the down and situation.
The swim is WAYYYYYY to high on that a good swim need to be like if you want to punch the guy infront of you BUT you do it a little bit upper than the shoulder you're working on so it can provide you alot of speed and momentum. The swim move is all about speed.
i dont trust the spin move, because if i was a o lineman i would just jab him in the back as hard as i could and hopefully he's out of the game.

I dont teach it as a swim move. I call it a punch over. tell my guys were to ugly to be swimmers and we are no Michael Phelps.

they both stood up too much. not as much on the rip move but definitly on the swim move that guy would've been knocked down right away.

Any good Offensive Lineman would know to Drive the D Lineman in the side of his rib cage in the middle of his swim move.

Or you could just do the James Harrison and pick up the offensive line men and throw him on his back. Hello Mr Quarterback.

Doing this is not that easy... When you play football its so much hard `cause the OL man wants to block you so it makes it harder!!

@suffering141 No, because the club is to try throw the blocker off balance and to one side to make it easier to rip

when you're driving him back and pulling him it should be more of a hit so it shocks him and then you pull him.

@furazoiden Very true. but these guys are on a whole nother level so it doesnt rlly matter.
stephanvisa187 1 year ago
@furazoiden Rip is probably the best since you can set the edge and usually you'll get them to hold you for the ends and the bullrush for noes'
Xadanar 9 months ago
@furazoiden I agree a swim need to be almost a punch going by the O lines ear and it need to be FAST

i like using the spin but i used the swim alot. & usually im shorter than the tackle but it works for me & i feel comfortable doing it.
