THIS Is the type of Worker Owned businesses we need to see more of in America. Guys, no more of this "non profit mother earth" shit, cut the hippie bullshit and get serious, build real Co-Op companies to grow and compete against the top down private companies so we can drag our asses out of a total economic collapse and create healthier more prosperous communities.
Now go spread the message all over the occupy movements.
"We aren't working to pay the CEO a six-figure salary"? CEOs in the United States made 6 figures back in the 1950s. In the 1980s, they made 7 figures. Today CEOs make an average of around 8 figures!
Just watched this DVD extra last night. Very inspiring! The workers probably have much higher self esteem, not being under the thumb of some parasitic CEO and management.
@AlchemysticAudio That's an important thing in itself - the confidence this gives ordinary people in terms of intellect, savvy and a push to make a big change in the world even. Capitalistic businesses have a hierarchical information system as well, which has the effect of keeping workers stupid and higher ups highly informed constantly giving them ammo against requests and radicalisation from below.
Top executives at M&I Bank have long been boosters of Walker. M&I Chief Executive Dennis Kuester and his wife gave $20,000 to Walker in recent years. When you package individual and PAC contributions by employers, M&I is number one -- at $57,000 dollars. The firm apparently uses a conduit to bundle much of its money to Walker. Flyers, webpages, and Facebook sites have popped up encouraging WI consumers to boycott Walker campaign contributors and "Pull the Plug on M&I Bank."
Bagpipes blaring, hundreds of firefighters walked across the street from the Wisconsin Capitol building, stood outside the Marshall and Ilsley Bank (M&I Bank) and played a few tunes -- loudly. Later, a group of firefighter and consumers stopped back in at the bank to make a few transactions. One by one they closed their accounts and withdrew their life savings, totaling approximately $190,000.
Michael Moore made the bulk of his $25 million off Capitalism (GOOGLE - celebrity net worth). He disavows Capitalism by saying “Communism has won. Socialism has prevailed” watch?v=SRRe0EFdNpI

Michael Moore states that the “Rich should share the wealth” He states that the money of the rich is ours. watch?v=wzfd_sNw2-Y
I like Michael Moore's work. It gives you a different perspective of things. Like it functions as another reality that is rarely shown in the media. I mena you gotta look at the good and the bad qualities of something to be critical you know. And I'm glad he gives us a slice of that.
As a Socialist and an Anarchist I wish that the majority of socialists would not put all their efforts into to taking over the State believing they can wield that double edged sword for their own benefit and instead take a page from co-op movement and "bootstrap" our own socialist economy from the bottom up instead of waiting for someone to organize us. We have the organizational structure of Workplace Democracy and the principals of Fair Trade to thrive in a market system so lets utilize them!
Irrelevant comment. This cab company has willfully adopted this ownership model. It's a free country, they can organize their company however they like.
@carlmelanson1 Michael Moore is not a communist. He says he is a Christian, but I believe he is a bleeding heart sentimentalist with a great deal of interest in sharing his ideal with the world. He is just a plain nice guy with the best of intentions and with a very big heart who makes films for a living. He is not an ideologue, he is a caring and loving human being.
@stlivermore I think he is a Marxist. which is good. Just because you are Marxist that doesn't mean that you like Stalin , I am Marxist and Stalin was dictator who pretty much destroyed the working class in the USSR.
@cesarojas182 He very well might be though he strikes me more as being a utopian idealist or some kind of utopian socialist wannabe than an out-of-the-closet Marxist. He is definitely his own man though, I would never try to pidgeonhole Michael Moore into any ideological categories. He is definitely an avowed Christian, however, which I think is really good, and so I like him for that in spite of any mixed messages he might unwittingly give to his mixed and wide audience.
@generyanpodcast Yeah tell that to the Ceo of Walmart you ever wonder how they can afford to sell stuff cheaper then anyone else ? it's easy when you have your workers working off the clock and have dead pessent insurance on them. that means Walmart collects money if they die Million and Million of dollars so you can save an extra 2¢ off toothpaste......!
I certainly agree! But, you know, according to the Constitution, the government IS SUPPOSED TO run that way, only better, cuz we all don't have to work for the government. The big businesses for profit have bought those who do work in government, so that they will work for them. 8(
Actually it's democratic. Communist is where the workers have nothing invested in the business. The workers all have a say, as well as the fact that they each have a share in the company. It's not communist in the least.
como se nota que nota que no saben nada de politica !como se nota que les preparan sus conciencias para vivir acusando.como se dise, religion y politica is pice shit
Of course it is not communist because this is only a company and not a government. If a large taxi campany comes into town and try to kick them out they are back in capitalistic reality.
But communist means that the workers are owning the companies. So the economic idea behind it is a communism.
Communism has proven to work extremely well in small societies (50 to a few hundert people) but the problems come with whole countries.
Are you one of those DAMNED Communists or Marxists?! That's what you sound like, when you insinuate that Communism owns, or invented socialism. Workers owning the company that they work for IS NOT Communism! It's a part of socialism. Communists believe in socialism, but didn't invent it, nor do they have any ownership nor other special relationship to it! Communists, Nazis & Kibbutz Zionists all believe in socialism & all hate each other! And I hate all 3---& I'm a socialist!
Just b/c there is cooperative ownership, doesn't mean its a communist system. If the owner-operators lived together, pooled all their earning, earned the same amount, and individually owned no property, then it'd be a Communist system as we've known Communism to be.
It'd not black and white, communism and capitalism, it's just some socialist middle... some worker influence, democratic decision making, and not a large gap in wages. Just b/c its not capitalism, doesn't mean its communism.
The people who do the work and are responsible for the production and services are in charge of how things are operated!
Although this still involves a price system construct(i.e. money). It is just about how a technocracy operates. In terms of how industry is operated and decisions are made.
Extremely interesting. Michael Moore is without a doubt the proverbial salt of the earth for promoting this type of educational film media for the sake of the millions of us who have never really stopped to think these things through. He deserves nothing short of a Profile in Courage award or a Congressional Medal for his outstanding work as a citizen and patriot. Love you Michael! Keep on keeping on.
@GlockNinja--you are so correct. The consumers and workers have a natural solidarity that the standard business model attempts to manipulate and abuse for its own profit. The worker co-operative model restores that solidarity and multi-stakeholder co-ops go even a step further. It is a human and humane economic model.
I believe every business that rise above the term "Small Business" should be run like this. Major Corporations have no business behaving like private owned companies. Their main responsibilities should be to their consumers (#1) and then to their employees (#2).
Excuse me , but why should a cab driver be paid $ 26 per hour ? And , if you have a Ph. D , why are you driving a cab? Could'nt you turn all that education into something better than driving around all day ? How much gov't money did you collect to spend all that time persuing a degree
@MENJAGVETJUINTE Seems I must check myself before I wreck myself. I suppose the union cab company could be considered communist since all members take equal partnership, rather than some lofty CEO syphoning all the proceeds from the business in to his bank account. In my defence I was thinking of the transitionary phase between capitalism and communism, where business and industry are state owned

This is amazingly funny material for Michael Moore to use insofar as he bashes capitalism...
because IT'S STILL CAPITALISM YOU'RE PARADING, YOU FAT MORON! It isn't gov't owned, run or subsidized, it has owner/employees!
But I suppose I should thank you, Mr. Moore... not everyone can rant like you do and be a full 180 off his mark. :P

Communism intentionally means "a class

a society without class system and without
government and state. Then the term has
become very broad and today can mean
nearly anything.
